Scratch can import WAV files and some MP3s. Other sound formats cannot be imported directly, but can be converted.[1]
Converting sound files
You can use an external audio editor (such as Audacity, a digital open source audio editor) to convert many sound file formats to the correct formats. One can also use iTunes to convert a sound to .mp3 format. If you don't want to use software, then Online Audio Converter can be used to convert files online.
