The Information for Scratchers/New Scratchers

I apologize if it seems that this article seemed like it was a duplicate, I got the information from my brain. I will do now is add on to that article.

Never mind, it got deleted.

It's because those trophies were drawn and animated by the fictional character The Cheat in Homestar Runner. ;)

moved files

Special:Log/move/12 I noticed above the first file you moved you didn't leave a redirect behind, but for the rest of the moved files you did. Was this on purpose? Or is there now a missing redirect page located at File:File Blocks.gif?
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 22:29, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Oops, that was an accident. I'll go delete the other redirects.

Nope. "When Adar arrives, we increase our joy." Because Purim is in the Hebrew month of Adar. Purim is actually this Saturday night-Sunday evening.

Template:Danger External programs

Edited the Template,Did what you wanted-What's a period?
Devloper123 (talk | contribs) 18:10, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Looks better now. :) A period is the American name for a full-stop. You know, the punctuation at the end of this sentence.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:18, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
Done the period

Finished,Can It be a template?
Devloper123 (talk | contribs) 16:16, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
Looks good! I'll give you the honor of moving it to Template:External Programs. :)

Sure. You can add it to pages if you want.

Devloper123 (talk | contribs) 16:10, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Hmm. This would probably be a better question for the template's talk page, so other users will know to chime in.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:27, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
Ah, yes, probably. It makes sense to put the template on those pages since younger users may click the link and try to download a version of something made for Mac when they have a Windows computer.
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 14:55, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Set X to () (block): Why your wording?

Your wording: "The block changes the selected sprite's X position by the specified amount. This block, combined with the Set Y to () block, have the same effect as the Go to X: () Y: () block." My wording: "The block changes the selected sprite's X position to the specified amount. This block, combined with the Set Y to () block, have an effect similar to the Go to X: () Y: () block." Why "by"? And if you say "the same effect", it contradicts what is said on the Go to X: () Y: () (block) page about the workaround a "common mistake by new scratchers" and "not being an accurate workaround". I can understand the piping links in see also (I think), though.
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 15:21, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, that was an accident. I'm using the grouped recent changes, so it grouped all the edits, and i didn't realize that (undo) would undo all, not just the last edit.

MediaWiki Question

How do I strip leading whitespace? I want to strip a leading newline character from the response of a special page so that I can do arithmetic on it with #expr.
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 07:43, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, don't know how. I tried a few things. BTW, it seems like there's a DELETE character at the beginning of the output of EditCount.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:23, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
DELETE's a character? That's just crazy. Tell me if you figure it out.
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 13:57, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
You didn't know that? It's even in ASCII! :P
veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:03, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Can you do something for me?

Can you please run the following JS snippet on your console on your Linux? If it doesn't tell you you're on Linux, scream at me.

var OS=function(){var e=["Win","MacIntel","Linux"];var t=window.navigator.platform;var n=function(e){return e==t.slice(0,e.length)};if(n("Win"))return"Windows";if(n("MacIntel"))return"Mac";if(n("Linux"))return"Linux"}();prompt("Your OS is:",OS);

Also, can you tell me how tough it is to install Scratch (1.4) on Linux and Windows? I need to get Scratch running on around 5 different laptops relatively fast for some people, and I'm anxious about installation issues.

Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 05:23, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

It tells me Linux.
Scratch is easy to install on Windows. On Ubuntu Linux, there's a working DEB (which only sometimes fails). For Fedora, there's a user-made RPM, but it doesn't always open. I just got an error opening it.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:06, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, sci. Let's pray nobody will be cool enough to have Linux.
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 13:23, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
That code is causing the page to glitch. You should probably put it somewhere else or remove it if you know what it was before and don't really need it anymore

New avatar?

I'm so used to the red "scimonster" avatar, that the new star of David had me confused for a second! ;) Is it just for today?
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 11:07, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

It's for Holocaust Memorial Day. Israel commemorated it on the 8th this year, and on the 11th is the official international date, so i'm leaving it up until then. During the war, Jews 14 and older had to wear a yellow star of David with the word Jude (Jew in German), so that's what i did for these few days.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 11:24, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
Who made them wear the hats? Did they choose too or was it the you know who's who forced them to?
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 21:17, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
That sentence took me a couple of minutes to parse lexically… it doesn't help that the whole thing's a mild rhyming tongue twister with weird grammar. :P

Deleting a protecting pages

I was wondering how all this "deleting a protecting pages" stuff works. For the current MediaWiki-made Scratch Wiki, is it in that drop-down menu on pages like Watch and Move. Then what are the things you have to fill out for deleting and protecting pages? Those are my wonders. I also thought you could put some mockups on your userpage. That's an idea. I hope I can get some answers!
Legobob23o (talk | contribs) 14:01, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

Right now it's in that dropdown, but when we had the Scratch theme, it was in that bar.
For deleting, there's a dropdown with these options, and also an insert field where you can type in something else.
For protecting, there are 2 levels: edit, and move. Usually, move is automatically kept in sync with edit levels. You can choose whether all users can edit, only "autoconfirmed" users (i think that's everyone though), or only admins. You also choose the time, with "infinite" the default. You can choose a predefined offset (i.e 1 hour, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year) or a custom time. Also choose cascading protecting (default no), which means protect pages transcluded in this page. Then choose one of these options, or type in your own.
Does that help?

Curator/List of Curators

I removed the link the Curator because there was already a link to the article right on the top-left of the page indicating that "List of Curators" was a subpage. I just wanted to let you know. :D
Legobob23o (talk | contribs) 15:44, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

just so you know, meta things like that don't really count just because they're so out of the way, not part of the article's body, and could easily be missed by someone not familiar with the more advanced aspects of wikis (and we're catering to a young audience here)

Question about 2.0

I figured you were the best to ask: how will the old forums be archived? At the same URL (/forums) or somewhere else? You would have to do some serious overhauling of links if the URLs changed…
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 05:36, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

I heard that it might be on an Amazon S3 server or something. Links to the old forums will redirect to the archived copy. That's gonna be a tricky regex, because they have to send people either to the old forums or the new ones, depending on the format (.php or not, basically).
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:47, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
It's not too tricky! "http:\/\/scratch\.mit\.edu\/forums\/viewtopic\.php\?.*", right?
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 11:07, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
But you also have search, index, misc, profile, and all the admin stuff.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:59, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, I guess that's secondary. Most of the links on the Wiki point to posts.

Block-based CSS

Check out http://cssdesk.com — what do you think? Also, take a look at http://raphaeljs.com (especially the demos). It might be nice to work with Raphael to make something cool; you program the UI while I can handle the algorithms under the hood (and the complaining about lack of UI features ;) ). Finally, look at LESS CSS—I think we should definitely add some of those features (global constants, for one, are really important to me to the point where I have an implementation to replace @bgcol with the background color! :D).

Or we could use Morphic, though you mentioned you wanted to use DOM, which is fine with me.

(Can you please make an AT thread for this? I don't like discussing on the Wiki, it's not as nice as the forums. No offense, but it's a Wiki. :P) 16:40, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
LESS was pretty essential for scratchblocks2. Interrupting rudely (you totally need a forum thread) — how are those angled booleans going? :D
Blob8108 (talk | contribs) 18:59, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
CSSdesk was interesting... RaphaelJS looks pretty cool, and i would consider using it for some things. Having some LESS features seems pretty good.
I would make an AT thread now, except it's too late for me, and i actually check the forums less often than the wiki... But (echoing Jens) couldn't we discuss over email?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:48, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
Too late as in late at night, right? :P
Anyway, chances are we'll end up working separately on different modules and bringing it together in the end—which is a perfectly fine and productive way to go. So I still vote for AT thread.
Did we decide what we're making yet, BTW? :P 08:31, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, late at night. Well, what do you think about my suggestion? An HTML/CSS live developer, which makes it much easier to create a good looking page. Basically, you drag out HTML elements to the page, where it gets added to the DOM over there. Then, you can edit the content and add styling. Styling includes simple text styling (color, font-*, text-*) using an editor similar to that found in many rich text editors, and box model styling, where you can move it around with margins, padding, and position:relative, along with adjusting the size with the mouse (like, cursor:resize-n). An alternate view would let you view the DOM in blocks, and third lets you view the CSS (LESS style, which gets automatically compiled when you save). Of course, if we're already doing blocks, we don't need to do @var syntax - it can just be a variable block.

Coders' Shed

(No, I'm not planning on joining—I have enough to compulsively refresh already… :P).

I noticed your Coders' Shed CSS is, well, to put it lightly, rather bleak (especially the main page). Can I offer to spruce it up a bit? It seems like almost a deterrent since it feels so old.

Thanks! :) 10:18, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

P.S. You have 2 links to the forums… :P

You should work a bit on the 'learn to code' section because it's not too informative. You should give a lot more examples of everything to readers, because that's the best way to learn. You could also make a table of 10 common programming languages and their pros & cons or something—think about the "alternatives to scratch" Wiki article.

But other than that, it's actually a great website—nice job putting it together. 10:23, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
:( You don't have to compulsively refresh. Checking in once a day is more than enough. :P
Even with the gradients? You can send me something if you want.
I know there are two links.
The site is totally not done. This is more of a prototype for the hoped-for Coders' Shed 1.0, which has forums and project sharing.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:20, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Ok, I'll see if I can hack something neater together. I'm not a fan of serif fonts, because thin sans-serifs look beautiful. And the light blue gradient, albeit really cool looking, doesn't really fit with the general scheme of things. :) 14:02, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Is there, like, a limit on the number of pages an admin can delete per day?

Is it, like, 16?

Access Keys

I remember in the community portal, that you mentioned access keys here on the wiki. I've never heard or seen them on the wiki till now, and I'm thinking about learning a few to make editing easier. Could you maybe help out a bit?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs)

Accesskeys are keyboard shortcuts that let you press alt+shift+[some key] to click a link, or visit an text input form, or check a box. So, Recent Changes is R; edit is E; minor edit is I; the edit box is ,; and so on.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:23, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
Phooey... The alt button on my laptop is also shared with the option button, so when I press alt+shift+I, it thinks I'm typing. :/ Still, thank you for telling me a few of those shortcuts!
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 19:32, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps you can look up the proper way to use accesskeys for your system and browser. A few more: random page is X, save page is S, preview is P, watch is W, what links here is J, special pages is Q, upload file is U, history is H, talk is T, content page is C, main page is Z.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:42, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
Yay! I found out how to do this finally; apparently I have to type control+alt+[key]. Well this should be helpful in the future. Thank you for telling me about this. By the way, is there a page on access keys in the wiki?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 20:06, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
No, but you can look at all of the titles starting with "accesskey" at Special:AllMessages.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:58, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
That's interesting... I'm wondering, is it possible for these access keys to be used in code? I'm wondering, is it possible for these access keys to be used in code? For example, I could maybe make a button that'd allow you to add a new section in my talk, if I ever wanted that.
Oh, and along with that, I found an image that isn't being used any more, and I highly doubt it ever will. Here it is: File:Set Decimal places
It used to be used in the Join()() (block) article, if you were wondering. Anyway, should it be deleted from the wiki?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 00:27, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Well, there's some bug with the directory that doesn't let us delete files.
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 01:20, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

+ is the accesskey for adding a section. It can't be used in code because you can't customize link HTML.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:10, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

I need some tips or a reference or something...

Hey there! I noticed the table of contents and other things, such as tabs, heading images, and other things on you page. I was wondering, is there a reference for doing such things? I don't intend to have that much of a fancy page, but it would be nice to know how to do that here on the wiki. Now that i looked at your code, i am seeing HTML and CSS(which i am familer with), but only once line... ?
CAA14 (talk | contribs) 21:30, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

No, sadly there is not a reference for the CSS side of things. I was thinking about putting an issue in the CP about adding a reference to the help pages, but I haven't yet. As for the HTML, there's a small reference here: HTML
And although this is off-topic, Scimonster, what's the difference between <div> and <span>?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 22:37, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
I have the exact same question: What's the difference?
Thanks Ernie. :D
CAA14 (talk | contribs) 22:40, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
You're welcome. ;)
And Scimonster, I'd like to extend my question a bit: What's the difference between <div>, <span>, <ul> and <il>? Are there others?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 22:45, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
Same here.
Same questions as Ernie, except i believe that <il> is italicizing and <ul> is underlining.
Also, i notice that the header of this page and a ton of stuff is all in one line of code...?
CAA14 (talk | contribs) 22:49, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
<il> and <ul> are actually used for code. It's actually how I was able to set a background image for my userpage, the only way you can do that (without putting text onto your image). I also believe <il> is a sub-something to <ul> Meaning, you use <il> inside of <ul>. For example:
<ul style=something>
<il style=something>
Again this is guess work, which is why I'm asking Scimoster.
As for having a "ton of stuff is all in one line of code...", that is a template. All the code is on another page, but it can be used wherever you want. I also used templates in my user talk page, if you'd like a second example to look at.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 23:26, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
Oh yeah, i believe you're right, i think they are ways to edit things individually.
And, could you comment the link to such templates?
I am working on my page now.
I also found an awesome library for CSS, if you're interested...
CAA14 (talk | contribs) 23:37, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I am interested. That is a nice find that you got. Could I maybe take a look?
Also, templates are actually pages that you create, so I can't really link to them or else this page would be full of them. Still, here are many of them: Templates
As for the one on my talk page, that one is here: Template
The one Scimonster uses, I'm not sure where it is. :/
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 23:45, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, and this is the link to a nice CSS library i found.
I am working on my page, but i need to know if i can add a picture as a BG to a div.
CAA14 (talk | contribs) 00:00, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Not with div, though you can do that with ul. This is rarely used though, I've only seen it used three times so far. One on a user's page (where I learned how to do this), one on my own user page, and one on my sandbox. As for that CSS library, I've been using that same website for my CSS. Still, the library should be useful considering I didn't even know about it. Thanks!
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 00:07, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

No problem.
Also, what is rarely used?
Images in the background of an ul?
CAA14 (talk | contribs) 01:00, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
Yes, you're guess is correct. As I said, I've only seen it used 3 times before, two of which are from my own pages. As for il, I've only seen that used once in my entire wiki experience, though I could maybe use it and make that count twice.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 01:21, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
Well, I've got to call it quits now for the most part, but i will see about getting an image up there to make it look much more professional.
CAA14 (talk | contribs) 02:23, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
I just noticed I've made a mistake throughout our conversation. It's <li> not <il> At least I found it now.
Anyway, I also have to call it quits; I've stayed up longer then I should've. So, good night and good luck with your userpage!
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 03:27, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
NO DON'T USE W3SCHOOLS!!!! See http://www.w3fools.com/. Use the MDN!
And to explain a bit about the differences between HTML elements, <div> is a block element, which means it goes on its own line, and <span> is an inline element. <ul> creates an unordered list (bullets), <ol> makes an ordered list (numbers), and <li> (not <il>) makes a list item. Does that help at all? You can look up other references on MDN. Remember, NO W3SCHOOLS!
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 20:08, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
Umm... it makes some sense, but I'm not a CSS developer. And when you said ul makes an unordered list, I'm confused by that when I look at some examples. I tried using ol in my userpage instead of the current ul, and all it did was shift my background image to the right. :/
Oh, and one last developer question. I was waving my mouse around, and some text appeared next to it saying something like "Tell me whatever you want to. Including about vandalism." How did you do that?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 20:17, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
That has too much styling to be noticeable. Look: ul:
  • this
  • is
  • an
  • unordered
  • list

  1. this
  2. is
  3. an
  4. unordered
  5. list
That's called a tooltip, made by the HTML element attribute title.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 20:27, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
I think that I see now. The Table of Contents/Front Page article has helped me figure out the difference because I had to test a few out to see which one worked best. Phew! That article took a long while to write up and code. I think that I might be in the same ordeal if I pick up the forums. Anyway, thank you for being so helpful!

Hi, it's me again(i know, i know, it'll all be over soon ;)). I have two questions:

  • How do you make a link of text constrain to one line? If you take a look at the header of my page, you'll see why i need to know.
  • Where are all the made templates for this Wiki? All i could find was how to make them. :/

Basically, i would like to know how you did the tabs at the top of this page, as the are obviously not normal links.
CAA14 (talk | contribs) 17:17, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

You can copy my code from User:Scimonster/Header. As for your page, i don't see anything wrong. On the contrary; it looks great! Templates are listed here.

Malicious file?

File:ScratchGSguide_v2.0_word.zip appears on my computer with the message "This file type may contain malicious code. By executing it, your system may be compromised." Is this a warning for all files or is it only ones the system detects as dangerous? This file seems to (if the name is correct) be something about translating Scratch. I think it may come from Scratch and be downloadable there. Still, do you think it is dangerous and should it be deleted?
EH7meow (talk | contribs) 16:22, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Citation help

Say I create a reference and it is labelled [2]. Is there a way to put more [2] references in other parts of the article? Sometimes the same source is used to cite two things in different locations, and I don't like to have duplicates listed in <references/>. Thanks.
Wes64 (talk | contribs) 18:03, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

You do it like this: First, you decide upon a relevant name to identify the reference by. Let's call this name "x". On the first spot the reference shows up, put , and then anywhere else, you pull it up with just .

Deleting Two Pages

The voting has finished in the CP and the List of Project Series is to be deleted, the List of Operating Systems is to be merged, the List of Collaborations is to be kept, and the RPG's are at a tie. Because of that, there are two articles that need to be deleted. The List of Project Series and List of Operating Systems are the ones. Could you do that? Thanks if you do!
By the way, I have a quick question. Sometimes, when I'm looking at recent edits or my contribs, I see (top) to the right of an edit. What does that mean?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 20:39, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

I think it comes up with (top) if something is the latest edit to that page.

Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:00, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
The fact that you didn't get a notification signalled that it worked. You were testing that it excludes categories from the no category notification, right?
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:33, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
No... i was hoping it would just fix the link. :Category:Scratch Wiki as opposed to .
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:24, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
Oh. I thought you didn't want it to notify people about categories at all, because there are cases where it's acceptable not to put a category on a category.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 13:57, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

If you are going to delete my page for no reason, then...

... I will just make it again. I don't really know why you deleted my page, because you said that it was "Empty." Is not the Wiki a collaboration, where any people can add stuff? Don't delete the page again, I am making it again.
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 12:34, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

1. Scimonster is an admin. I think he knows what he is doing. 2. Following that, if an admin deletes a page, there is probably a reason. If you disagree with the reason, rather than just immediately creating it again, discuss it with the user who deleted it, or, if you want the whole Wiki community to know about it, use the Community Portal. Just creating the page again will only cause conflict. 3. I don't know if the page actually was empty when he deleted it. If it was, then he was justified. A Wiki page should never be empty. If you temporarily blanked it so you can completely redo it, put the In Progress template on it, so we know why it is blank.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 13:38, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Or create the page in a subpage of your user page or in your sandbox and when it's complete then move it over to an actual article. :)
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 14:30, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
If you're going to create a page, actually put things in. You can't just create the page and expect other people to always add something. If you have an idea for a page, suggest it in, for example, the CP. Or make it in a sandbox like Turkey said. Although the Wiki is a community project, it's best that you give users who are going to add information somewhere to start. ;)
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 14:48, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
At the time of deletion, the content was:

<!-- Please add in how to make an RPG. -->
This page is a tutorial on how to make a Role-Playing Game's Overworld.

Scripting
I think that qualifies as an empty page. If you have content, you can create the page. If you just want someone else to make it, say so on the CP.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:50, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
I apoligize if this sounds harsh. Okay, I have remade the page. If you are going to delete it again, here are the reasons that it shouldn't be deleted. 1. The Wiki is not a solo thing, it is a collaboration. 2. Deleted pages break the Wiki guidelines, and I did not break any guidelines with that page. 3. I do not know about the topic, while some people do. 4. I thought that this was a place to learn things, not a place to delete things. 5. With all my reasons, this is the biggest one: I PUT STARTERS IN THE PAGE, SO I DID WORK ON IT. 6. Empty means nothing is in it, of course, so it is not empty. Those are 6 reasons- and I really think that you need to stop making deletions if a wiki page is helpful with a little work, and it doesn't break the community guidelines. Again, sorry if that sounded harsh.
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 15:41, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
  1. Yes, the wiki is a collaboration. And the admins agreed that it should be deleted. 3 separate people have now deleted that page.
  2. Perhaps we don't have everything written out, but it's accepted that a page isn't created without real meaningful content.
  3. Then you should let someone else create the page instead.
  4. It is. We very rarely delete things. However, we do have quality regulations.
  5. Er, not really. You wrote what, one sentence?
  6. Empty doesn't mean actually absolutely nothing. There was nothing meaningful on the page.
I've protected the title so that it can't be created again until we reach a consensus. If you would like to work on the page, you can do it as a subpage of your userpage.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:57, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Actually we delete stuff quite often because people often make pages that are stubs or too unrelated to Scratch or way too specific or way too generic.
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 18:42, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
On Wikipedia, they never delete stubs. Just saying.

I saw you left a message about the raycaster tutorial I was making, but it hasn't actually been done. In fact, the incomplete raycaster page really made me quite annoyed (before I was on the wiki) when I was looking for a tutorial about an array based raycaster, but the one here was incomplete! So that's why I made the page; of course, the array based raycaster I have made isn't perfect, but I think a tutorial is better than no tutorial.

KrIsMa Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 19:44, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
Nope. We (meaning the admins before me!) decided on the order of refs, SA, EL a long time ago. I see no reason to change it.

Can you help me with the formatting of thumbnails on this page please? Thanks

Deletion of Scratch- Off Page

Are you sure that wasn't nessacary? I think it was. If we have a page about Toki's then we should have a page about the Scratch- Off.
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 12:42, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Turkey3, Mathfreak231**, ErnieParke*, Derpmeup, and me** all approved deletion, with none against. The page itself was very short and low quality. Besides, we still have the Competition page.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:17, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
Alright! I fine then. Scratch On!

Deletion of Page

If you are an admin, could you delete this? Thanks!
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 18:50, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Yes Done
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:58, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Can I talk to you for a minute? I worked really hard on some edits on the Development of Scratch 1.0 page, I wanted to make it look nice since it was linked to on the homepage, but you protected it? You mind if I paste my edits in your Sandbox, and if you like them, you might add them to the page? I did work really hard, and I wanted to get something from the page, and I found out it was protected. I understand why you wanted to protect it (BTW, lots of pages are linked to from the main-site, want me to give you a list), but I still wanna use my work. So?
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 14:16, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, sure. Maybe paste it into your own sandbox though.
I'm not talking about any random page that's linked to from the main site, this is the top item in the news.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:18, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Adding content on a editlockedpage protected page

On this article, could you replace the How To Join section with the following:

  1. You must be a Scratcher in order to join.
  2. You start helping Scratchers with their projects in the Scripts Workshop.
  3. If you do well, you may be accepted to join Scripts Team.
    Swampert11 (talk | contribs) 20:45, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
But the old section is a lot more detailed.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 20:57, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
However, the way you join Scripts Team is now different according to this studio's description.
Swampert11 (talk | contribs) 21:04, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
That is true; the page does need to be updated, although by a Scratch Team member. I'll alert them about that.
By the way, if there is a large discrepancy in one of the Scripts Team pages (one that's also "maintained by the Scratch Team"), it'd probably be best to tell me, User:P110, or User:EH7meow so that we can tell the ST.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 21:42, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Do you mind...

do you mind if you tell me what the link (to the scratch modification site) was in MeeBlocks (Scratch Modification)?

I looked on my talk page today and u delete me mod page :( linked at MeeBlocks while I was sleeping, so here's something you need to know.

  1. Always look at the time created. If one of my newly-created articles or edits were very close to 10:00 (in Eastern Time) then I would go to bed, and finish doing it later.
  2. Read the one above.
  3. Read the one above the one above.
  4. Read the one above the one above the one above.
  5. Read the one above the one above the one above the one above.
  6. Read the one above the one above the one above the one above the one above.

InteractAndPlay (talk | contribs) 02:38, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

second reason why he deleted it was because it wasn't notable, it's on your talk page.
KrIsMa Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 18:48, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Also, please read your talk page when someone leaves a message.
Swampert11 (talk | contribs) 18:51, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
1. Scimonster is an admin (and so am I), please respect our decisions. If you disagree, please explain why politely.
2. The rule is that if you create a page you plan on completing later, you have to put the stub template on it. Otherwise, it will likely get deleted.
3. If you look at Scratch Wiki:New page policies, it says that "Only create pages for modifications that would widely be considered extremely notable." Given that it appears your mod was still in an alpha stage, I would hardly consider it "notable".
4. We're not going to make special exceptions to the rules based on time zones. Either you finish the article or indicate that you intend to finish it later with the stub or expand template, depending on the circumstances. When deciding whether to delete a page, the time it was created is irrelevant.
5. Don't be so condescending. Please have good faith at all times.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 18:54, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
I do have good faith at all times.
InteractAndPlay (talk | contribs) 19:21, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Given the tone of your message, you did not have good faith. You were being condescending and acting as if Scimonster had no idea how to administer the Wiki.

InteractAndPlay (talk | contribs) 23:22, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Back! Now let me restate something.
  1. I read my talk page.
  2. Stubs look too Scratchy.
  3. I hate the easter egg censor that affected the above sentence.
  4. Stubs are something I keep forgetting about, and my { button is broke so I can't type it anyways.
  5. That was the first time I realized that there was a button in the Wiki markup codes. #Failure!
  6. My signature is cool!
    InteractAndPlay (talk | contribs)
  7. I have no witty comments, so I guess I'll save the page.

InteractAndPlay (talk | contribs) 23:23, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

  1. I think we intended to make all the message templates look "Scratchy". :P
  2. wait wut?
also the In Progress template is good for unfinished pages and we don't know or really care when your bedtime is :P
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 23:30, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

MeeBlocks (cont.)

The other one started getting messed up for me -_- <--- that emotion explained everything. Now here is what I was going to say.

<spoiler><quote>I think we intended to make all the message templates look "Scratchy". :P</quote> I like it to be more "Neighy". :P <quote=Mathfreak321>wait wit</quote> Aren't you a admin on the forums? You should have been across the Easter Eggs page by now! It was a reference to the Gobo and Pony and Scratch Forums cost censors.</spoiler>

Okay, now that this has cleared up, I will write in bold text. That was very dramatic. So the final decision is to just restore the page and Scratch on. (That was the -_- emotion's choice! Trust me!)
-unsigned comment by InteractAndPlay (talk | contribs)

No, the final decision is that the page will remain deleted. As we said above, the page was also deleted because we only allow pages for notable mods. This is non-negotiable.

Even if you created your own wiki, doesn't give you the power to take down the Scratch Wiki and Scratch itself. And please stop being so rude.
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 01:11, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
@InteractAndPlay Please understand that editing the wiki is a privilege. The wiki only works if editors are respectful to each other. You are not being respectful. If you believe something you wrote was unfairly deleted, please *calmly* ask for an explanation-- many of the editors (and especially the admins) have been on the wiki for a very long time and have a better sense of what belongs and what doesn't than you do. Like I said, editing the wiki is a privilege, so if you are not willing to be respectful, maybe you should move on.
