Your perspective!

Hi! I found the discussion we started on the GP quite interesting but I think we should continue it here, not there. Basically I am very interested in hearing your opinion about the Notability-Rule. As I said "I don't quite see how most people not knowing something is a reason against having an article on the wiki where people can in fact learn about things that exist in the world of Scratch that they didn't know about before?". But of course this is only one possible perspective! Would you mind sharing your perspective on this matter? -

I think notability is very important for a few reasons:
  1. Why should we waste our time making articles on non-notable subjects?
  2. Why should we waste space on the MIT Scratch Wiki server(s) with articles on non-notable subjects?
  3. Isn't making pages about non-notable subjects the same as advertising them?
  4. Why should we make people who use Special:Random sort through non-notable subjects that they don't care about?
  5. Most importantly, it is against Scratch Wiki:New Page Policies to make articles on non-notable subjects.

Okay, interesting. Would you mind sharing my opinion on this?
  1. I think everyone is free to use their time on what they want. The english wiki does already have many important articles. If someone enjoys writing articles, why not write some about less important matters?
  2. After an insight in the DACH servers I come to the conclusion that articles do in fact not take up much space if the images aren't too big. But I see your point. After all, other things that also don't take up that much space, like chain letters, are also discouraged.
  3. I disagree here. Writing an article should be neutral and most of the time the author of the article is not the creator of the feature, so what would be the benefit? If, of course, the author is the creator or very strongly linked to them, and if the article is overly positive (=not neutral) about something, this should be considered as advertising and be removed or changed and merged with another article. Also, if a feature is not described well and the article lacks of substance, something needs to be done. This is the case with the TurtleStitch article I think.
  4. The problem is that "notable" is a word that has a very relative meaning. Not everyone cares about everything. I'm sure there are also people who don't care about notable articles and vice versa people who care about "non-notable" articles.
  5. Of course I can't say we should break the rules :) I understand that the rule is in place so not everyone who has one little Scratch World feature puts it on the Wiki - that would be chaotic! But here again "notable" seems like a very relative word to me. Of course, that's what the article discussion and the community portal are for!
Anyway, I'm glad we exchanged our views here. I heard some new arguments I didn't see before, thanks for sharing them. If you have any questions about my point of view, please ask :) -

OK. Maybe we should ask this where more people will see it on the CP?

How to Change the Default Sprite‎

Ah, sorry about that. I didn't really read the page properly :P. I thought it was meant to be 2.0. Thanks for catching me out there!

Your signature

Instead of adding the whole thing to the page every time you sign, why not just use a template (user subpage) like most people with custom sigs do?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 21:03, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

In preferences, I have it set up so the ~~~~ makes my sig. I tried to makeit transclude but it made me add SUBST:. Wait... I could move that to User:Mitopolis/Signature and use User:Mitopolis/Transclude...

Like this!?!?

Much better. Whenever i see like +500 for a comment, i think "big". Then i realize it's just a 3-line post plus a big signature.

OK. I got pretty excited about the message, because I usually get WikiMonitored when I get messages. :)

Sonic

Please be more respectful about Sonic. This means the following:

This is disrespectful and does not fit the Wiki guidelines. Please remember that the Wiki is a collaborative effort, and removing content from a set of joke pages because you don't like it isn't ok. Thank you.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 03:32, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Also, I felt that this message was also a little disrespectful.
Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 03:38, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
Hi Mitopolis, because of this message unfortunately, I'm going to say that you can't be a reporter at this moment. I'm pretty strict with the guidelines. Please don't let this discourage you! Keep editing!
AghaCool (talk | contribs) 14:14, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
This message is quite rude and disrespectful. Please stop. Sonic is allowed on the Wiki. Thank you.
AghaCool (talk | contribs) 14:39, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
OK. I'll be more respectful from now on.
