Hello jvvg how are you?

(

I'm doing fine, how are you?
jvvg (talk | contribs) 17:10, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

Why can't I upload an image?

I'm trying to upload an image but there is an error saying that "You must enter a comment when uploading a new version of a file or editing a file page. You must also include a category when uploading new files." but there is no image called "Scratch_Extension_Message.png". but I entered the comment AND the categorey so there must be an error. The size is not too big, neither is the length and width so I don't know why.
Marc92020 (talk | contribs) 19:51, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Were you trying to upload a new file (using the upload page) or just edit the filepage for a file that didn't exist? If you did the former, did you make sure to enter the category in the summary box (and make sure to use proper category syntax, i.e. )?
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:14, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
Yes I was using the upload page but i found no other version of "Scratch_Extension_Message.png" so i don't know why. There might be but it also said there was no comment even tho there was.
Marc92020 (talk | contribs) 16:01, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
I looked at the log, and the issue is you aren't entering the category properly. You'll notice that my previous comment had square brackets around the category name (like a wikilink), while you just said "Category:Scratch Website Images". This is not a bug, but the software properly detecting that you didn't include a category correctly.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 21:12, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
You should always use "[[]]" when linking inside of the wiki.

About my scrolling page

Hi, so I noticed you deleted my Scrolling Engine page due to their already being something familiar to what I had done. Could I by any chance, add to the article Scrolling (Sprites) (I am still fairly new to this and I dunno how to make attached redirects, sorry). Could I take what I had done for my Scrolling Engine page and add everything I had done to the Scrolling (sprites) page?
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 18:35, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Yes, please do add to Scrolling (Sprites). I wasn't indicating that the contents of the article weren't useful, just that we didn't want to have two separate articles for the same thing. You can edit anything you see necessary. If you want, I can also give you a copy of the article you created so you can repurpose the content.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 20:08, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
no it's ok. I remember the things I put in the article I had made. Thank you though. I understood why it was deleted. I was just curious to know if I could add what I put on my article to Scrolling (Sprites) thats all.
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 14:24, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
I added onto scrolling (sprites). I am sorry about creating a similar article and I will be more careful with this in the future, as I did with my AI article. Which btw... I am also sorry that that's not a well-sized page. I am new to this and am not sure how to write good article. Wait, is there a way you could show me how to write a good article?
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 13:42, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
Probably looking at our existing articles is the best way to get a feel for what goes into a good article.

WikiMonitor Alerted Me...

I was making some style edits to my User Talk page to make it look nicer like some others I've seen, but after I clicked save, WikiMonitor charged me for not signing my post, even though I didn't post; it's nothing too major but I just thought I should let you know that it falsely "accused" me (lol).
84375 (talk | contribs) 22:44, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

That is because edits to a talk page without a time-stamp are classified as "unsigned". To prevent this in the future, mark non-message edits on talk pages as minor.
Leahcimto scratch profile picture.png leahcimto talkcontribsprofile 22:51, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
Yes mark it as minor. also why are you talking in court language

Please remember to sign your posts

Hello, I'm WikiMonitor, a bot that patrols the Recent Changes. This is just a friendly reminder that it appears you forgot to sign your post in revision 270550 of User talk:Jvvg/sandbox. Please fix this by adding four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your post to insert your signature and remember to sign your posts in the future. Signing your posts is important as it allows other Wikians to see who made a post. Thanks!

Note: if you were making an edit to a talk page that wasn't actually a message, in the future you can mark it as minor to avoid a notification.

This message was sent by an automated bot run by jvvg. You can contact him on his talk page with any concerns.

Scratch Wiki:Flawed Article

You can remove the __TOC__ from the new 3.0 flawed article; I only added it so the table of contents wouldn't go before the single-‍= heading on the userspace version, and that heading is not part of the project space version.

Could U help me with a big project?

I am working on a scratch game that runs primarily on Cloud Variables. Ya see, I am not good with Cloud and need BIG help. Is there any way you could work on the project with me? Mainly to assist me with anything cloud related
-unsigned comment by StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs)

Unfortunately I probably am not the best person for that. The only project I have built with cloud variables in several years was the high score in my lottery simulator. You can try posting in the help with scripts forum, and they may be able to help you there.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 16:05, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
could I ask you for help with a cloning error i have been asked to look at for someone?
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 01:40, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Sharing Accounts

This is one of the many questions I've asked so far, I apologize for the MANY questions, but is Sharing a scratch account bad? Like.... could me and another individual share one account to work on the same project?
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 19:48, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

The Scratch Team discourages sharing accounts (that article also includes some alternatives to collaborate on a single project). On the Wiki, sharing an account is prohibited entirely.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 23:57, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

I can't login

Alright so, when I try to log into my scratch account, I'll type in my info and then click "sign-in". What'll happen is the "Sign In" button will display a loading circle (idk what to actually call it) and then the button will go back to say "Sign in" and the page won't reload with me in my account. It happens when I try to log into my alt as well
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 01:53, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately I can't really help you with that. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head are try using an incognito window/private window/whatever your browser's equivalent is.

StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 15:03, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
Your ScratchSig image doesn't always update immediately due to caching. However, if you give it long enough it will update.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 16:05, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

help with uploading images

I am trying to upload an image to the wiki for my user talk page, but it keeps saying I need to do something to do with a comment on the image. Idk what this means. plz help

Check out the help page on images for how to use it.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 05:08, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
So, I am using the wiki gallery to try and find my image, it doesn't show up. Does this mean that I have to re-upload the image or what?
XII_RH1N0 (talk | contribs) 17:51, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
I don't see any images you uploaded. As for your original issue, you need to include a category (with the format ) in the comment. Looking at the log you were trying to upload a user image, so it would go in the category Category:Users' Images.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 19:03, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
I had that issue a few times. But seen someone on this talk page with the same issue. So i fixed the issue with the solution you gave to someone else. It had uploaded but then I couldn't use it. Now its not saying I uploaded it
XII_RH1N0 (talk | contribs) 19:06, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
I just tried to upload it yet again. I included Category:Users' Images in the description, it game me the same error
XII_RH1N0 (talk | contribs) 19:09, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── The issue in this case seems to be that you included a period. It should be .
jvvg (talk | contribs) 19:12, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

I give up. Its still not working
XII_RH1N0 (talk | contribs) 19:56, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
I'm looking at the log again and it says the summary was blank. I honestly don't know how that can happen, I will need to contact the person who maintains the filter.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 20:25, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
The Summary was small yea, but it said either "My Talk Page Icon" or "XII_RH1N0's Talk Page Icon"
XII_RH1N0 (talk | contribs) 20:39, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
No, I mean it said you had no summary at all. I don't know how that can even happen.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 21:11, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Oh. Are the summary and desctiption 2 different things? Because if they are, I didn't see anything about a summary. Or is the summary something only Admins can see 22:49, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
XII_RH1N0 (talk | contribs) 22:50, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
That's the thing. When you first upload a file there isn't a place to add a summary, and the description is supposed to be taken from the summary. I am going to contact kenny2scratch about this (he designed the filter).
jvvg (talk | contribs) 22:52, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Oh no. I broke the wiki D:
XII_RH1N0 (talk | contribs) 23:38, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

I think the filter is possibly outdated, since it was last modified 2 years ago and we've upgraded since then. It now only checks for a summary on a reupload, not creation. You should be able to upload properly now. Not clear why this hasn't happened before.

Thanks but uh... define "Sub-Page" for me.
XII_RH1N0 (talk | contribs) 04:22, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
A sub-page is a page which is given the title of a different page, plus a '/' and then another title. For example, Featured Studios/Currently Featured is a sub-page of Featured Studios (and it needs to be updated with "Poetic Cafe"…).
Mlcreater (talk | contribs) 04:54, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
So then, would my sub-page be called something like.... User:XII_RH1N0/XII_RH1N0 or no
XII_RH1N0 (talk | contribs) 00:04, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── That is an example of a subpage, though for a signature you'd want something like User:XII_RH1N0/Sig or similar.

Why there such a feature avalible?
Joshuabirger (talk | contribs) 23:40, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
I am sure its just how it is. I don't think they intended it so that others can sign using other peoples signatures

Oh,ok
Joshuabirger (talk | contribs) 23:46, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
In the end, talk page messages are just text and there isn't an easy way to attribute each individual message to the person who posted it, which is why we have signatures and why the username is a parameter to the signature.

Joshuabirger (talk | contribs) 20:13, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

I deleted it because we already have April Fools and April Fools', so April Fool is pretty redundant.

Joshuabirger (talk | contribs) 21:31, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Hey!

The Email associated with my alt scratch account (StormMaker2395ALT) got an email talking about the upcoming scratch blocks. Then I got a link attached to that Email for Scratch labs. I am actually excited that the devs are thinking of adding the Text extension. Anyways, because of this, I decided to return to scratch until the release of those blocks (if they get added) for now, I am challenging myself to try and remake those blocks :). Also, how are you doing? I am doing good. I have begun to work on extremely small JavaScript programs!
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 02:28, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Nice and welcome back! I'm doing pretty well and it's cool that you're starting to build stuff with JS. I'm continuing with the projects we're doing at work (I can't say that they are right now unfortunately, though if you want I can list some ones that we've completed).

StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 15:53, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I only built bits of pieces of the COVID-19 site (basically I was added after it was mostly complete to help with debugging), though I did build the entire frontend for the IAA search. To work for the Scratch Team you have to be at least 18, though for developer positions you likely will need at least college degree, and more senior developer positions would require some other work experience.

Curious

How do I make it so that certain other people can edit my User page? I want to make it so that way User:XII_RH1N0 can edit my page for me when he is online and I am not
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 20:17, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Add open userpage to the top of the page.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 20:25, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Is that it? won't everybody be able to edit my user page at that point Also, did u see my new article?
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 22:08, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Currently the only technical restrictions for userpage editing are that New Wikians cannot edit others' userpages except those with that template. However, you can set rules that others are required to follow (and are allowed to revert any edits that do not follow those rules).
jvvg (talk | contribs) 00:40, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
Ok. Also, I tried putting open userpage at the top of my user page. All it did was add it at the top
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 00:43, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
Yes, that's what the template does. However, the userspace filter won't block New Wikians from editing your page if that template is present.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:21, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
Ok so uh, I just tried adding open userpage with the t| included, it gave me a bad word error like I was trying to swear or something
StormMaker2395 (talk | contribs) 04:13, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Oh you don't want the t| included. That was just to demonstrate how to add it. You should add open userpage (and if you're viewing the source of this edit, don't use the surrounding tags).
jvvg (talk | contribs) 18:20, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

I am very very curious to know where'd you come up with the name "jvvg".

President_Dave (talk | contribs) 16:19, 30 April 2021 (UTC))

My username is simply my initials. When I joined Scratch, I was about ten years old and this was my first time ever creating an online account on any site. I just used the first thing that came to my mind.

Help with some code

So, as I said, I have began working with things like JavaScript and HTML coding. For now what i've decided to do is practice a bit with discord.js which I am pretty sure is JavaScript considering the fact it has .js at the end of it. Whats supposed to happen is when the code is ran, the bot on discord is supposed to appear online. That's not the case. Idk if you are allowed to help me but if you could that'd be greatly appreciated. I've looked back at the code and cannot seem to understand whats wrong and why the bot won't come online. I've also had other people look at it. But since I know you are capable to bot development, I was wondering if you'd take a look at my code and let me know what my issue is. Here is the link to my code https://repl.it/join/nvdccwah-stormmaker2395

Hey there! So, I've recently started my own Wiki, which I've been pretty interested about after looking more into how MediaWiki runs. Do you have any tips on better managing a wiki? Thanks in advance!
84375 (talk | contribs) 06:27, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

I don't really have any great general-purpose tips, a lot depends specifically on what the Wiki is about.

My page was taken down...

Hello Jvvg! I have recently joined the wiki and went on search for a new page to write, I had begun to write a page which I called Ray-Casters, Ray-Marchers, and Ray-Tracers. This page was supposed to show the differences between these methods of rendering and how they have been implemented into Scratch. This page was taken down supposedly because it had the word "Raycaster" in common with another article which had been written. However, another article which had content related to raycasting had and has been up for a while and has not been removed. I understand that at this point, my page is gone but I would like to ask how I should go about fixing this article so that it will not to be taken down by any supervising users. Let me know if you have any information on what I should do, because this article is one that I have been planning for a while and I think will be very useful to Scratch users who want to get into this sort of thing. Thanks!
Insidious_Scratcher (talk | contribs)

The raeson for deleting your article about raycasters, raymarchers, and raytracers was that we already have a Raycaster article and we shouldn't have two articles about the same thing. We also detail Raytracing as a section in another article. The umbrella topic is Three-Dimensional Projects, so discussion that compares/contrasts the three should probably go there. It may be worth creating a separate article for raytracing and raymarching, but an article that essentially has the same information as is already in Raycaster shouldn't be created so we don't have two articles about raycaster.

Okay, thanks!

Activity

If somebody requested an account, how active do they have to be on Scratch to be accepted (assuming they followed all directions in the request an account page)?
TheTrillion (talk | contribs) 01:17, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Generally as long as they have shared a few projects, that's fine. We really just don't want the case of an account with no projects at all. We don't really do a deep investigation, we just do a cursory look at the profile page.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:22, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Besides some baseline proof of participation on Scratch, we care very little about your activity, as long as it's not malicious and otherwise doesn't violate Community Guidelines. You can log into Scratch for the first time in years just to verify your identity for your Wiki request for all we care. However, we do ultimately notify you that your request has been processed via a profile comment, so you do need to check your comments semi-regularly after submitting your request.

Have Some tips?

I just made it onto the wiki today! I am very new to some of this stuff, and already managed to screw up (e.g. your bot said I did not categorize my wiki page I tried to make :( whatever that means...) So I was wondering If you had tips on making good wiki edits, or even using the awesome features! My freinds and I are really happy that I made it to a wiki editor! Thanks!
Mr-r-man (talk | contribs)

Probably my biggest tip is take a look at some existing articles to get an idea of what sort of stuff belongs on the Wiki and what doesn't. Also look at how they're organized, as we value keeping things organized and standardized as much as possible. In regards to categories, each page (except userpages and talk pages) needs to have a category, as categories are used for grouping content. You could think of categories like folders on your computer - it would be really hard to find stuff if you just put everything on your desktop.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:18, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

I have confirmed the TimMcCool article to have involved the Scratch Team.

CodeLearnerSai (talk | contribs)

Could you please provide a source for this (for example, a profile comment including a link, a forum post, etc.)? Also simply involving the Scratch Team is not by itself enough to warrant an article, the subject needs to be extremely notable in its own right. Since allowing articles about Scratchers is extremely rare, they are decided on a case-by-case basis.

Where does WikiMonitor get the FPC info?

Yes Done
According to this, Wikimonitor updates the FPC list. I would like to know where it gets the data from. There seems to be some confusion because the current FPC (as per the Wiki page), is yoyu55, and they are inactive and it seems like they have never applied. (src)
PUNNAMOODU (talk | contribs) 20:10, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

WikiMonitor gets FPC information from the Scratch API, the same one used when you load the front page in your browser: https://api.scratch.mit.edu/proxy/featured - I just checked the front page, and it does show yoyu55 being the curator, so ultimately if there is any issue, it is not with WikiMonitor.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:43, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
I guess you are right. There is an issue, but thats not WM's fault. A Scratch Team member could have got it wrong. Thanks for the clarification! :)

It was built by Kenny2scratch, apple502j, and smileycreations15. I was not involved in development, so I'm not 100% sure how they developed it, though I do know it used the same idea of comment verification that was originally implemented by me.

I and smileycreations15 (who now goes by Semisol on Scratch) created it over the course of several months. Originally in Python, then reimplemented as a MediaWiki extension. apple502j contributed a couple fixes.

Elections

Hello there, I would like to know if I can run for the position "Experienced Wikian" in the upcoming elections.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 18:30, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Anyone whose account was created at least one month prior to the announcement date of the election and has at least 50 mainspace edits as of the day we announce the election may nominate themselves. While we (the existing EW+) reserve the right to modify these on a per-election basis, it is unlikely we will. The existing EW+ also may select a subset of the candidates that actually nominated themselves to actually run in the election. All that being said, elections are held on an as-needed basis (as determined by current EW+), and we do not currently have any plans to hold one in the near future.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 18:46, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
Okay, but I would like to ask why there are no plans to create an election in the future.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 19:24, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
Elections are held when we (the existing EW+) determine that we do not have enough EW+ on the Wiki and thus need more (and have an election to find more). At the moment, we are sufficiently staffed. We also try to avoid holding elections more often than we have two, since they do require a significant amount of effort for us to coordinate and also are a weekslong distraction from actual productive editing.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 19:35, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
Okay, and I would also like to ask if proposals can be made on this wiki.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 19:42, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
You may nominate yourself whenever the next election happens, but as of now there is no date for it set.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 20:43, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
I was talking about proposals in general.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 02:39, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── What sort of thing were you intending to propose?
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:52, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Adding voting for restoring, deleting, merging, and seperating pages. I also want to propose creating user rights reviews for every user holding rights every 6 months, to determine if a user is still fit to hold a position on this wiki or not.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 03:25, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
@BookTV: I think it would be "unnecessary" for a wiki like Scratch Wiki.
  • About user rights:
  1. First of all, we currently have no term limits regarding the right of admins/EW+ (as you have pointed out). It's possible to abandon the account if someone don't have any interests to the wiki anymore.
  2. Second, there's virtually no user rights other than bureaucrats, EW+ and admins. Therefore, a full review would be redundant.
  3. Third, most of the EW+ users are elected via elections when there's a need for EW+. I'm also quite sure that admins and bureaucrats are reviewing theirselves.
  • About merging, deleting, restoring, and separating pages:
  1. I think that it would be possible to create a noticeboard for these kind of stuffs, but also we already have categories, so everyone can always contribute to ongoing discussions.
Ahmetlii logo.gif ahmetlii  Talk  Contributions  Directory
    09:57, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I'll take these one at a time:

  • While a privileged user (EW, admin, or bureaucrat depending on the situation) ultimately has the final say, in many cases if the action to take isn't clear-cut (for example, if it's a totally offtopic page we will delete without discussion), we will go by community consensus. Adding an explicit voting system would likely not help all that much, since each contested idea would probably only get a few votes, which isn't really enough to make a determination and would need EW+ review anyway.
  • As ahmetlii said, we do not see any need to hold user rights reviews. Of course if we determine a user is abusing their power or otherwise misusing their position, we will address the issue with them, and if they do not correct their behavior, we will remove their extra privileges. Meanwhile, there is additional cost in holding such reviews, in that it adds administrative overhead and is a distraction from productive work.

jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:13, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Also, I think something should be done to bring more scratchers to the Scratch Wiki, as there are only 72 active users on this wiki in comparison to the millions of users on Scratch.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 16:47, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
If you have any ideas, we would love to hear them. Probably the easiest thing to do to help is link people to Wiki articles when they ask questions on the forums or elsewhere, and then if they find these articles helpful they can join when they are eligible. We also have Wiki Wednesday as part of our main site outreach efforts.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 18:57, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
I think that a big reason why there are so little active accounts is because a lot of scratchers are very young and cannot use an email. I think that if people want an account, they could leave a comment on a profile on the Scratch website (this account would either be a new account dedicated to requests for accounts on this wiki or an account of a user with powers to make an account such as you; I personally think a new account would be a better idea). The account would then ask the user who wants an account the questions shown in the normal requests, and if it is successful then an account would be created, and if it not then an account wouldn't.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 22:11, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
I do not think that not having an email (and thus not being able to comment) is the main reason people cannot join the Wiki. They can always use a parents' email as well. Besides, we require Wiki contributors to be relatively experienced on the Scratch website, and accounts without confirmed emails really can't do all that much (only save projects but not share them), so they likely wouldn't have the requisite experience to contribute to the Wiki. Also while we do not have any explicit age/school grade requirement, we do expect contributors to be able to write at approximately the equivalent of a middle school level, and Scratchers too young to use an email address or a parents' email address are less likely to meet that writing requirement.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 23:34, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

I saw your edit on SWC Forum

Hello! I saw your edit on SWC Forum adding Citation Needed to where it says reviewers don't have access to this forum. I am just wondering how I could cite that. I am a SWC Reviewer, that's how I have this information, but I don't know how I could cite this. Do you know how I could?
Leahcimto scratch profile picture.png leahcimto talkcontribsprofile 16:07, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Ideally some sort of acknowledgement by the Scratch Team or some way to verify it technically would be used as a citation, but it's unlikely we'll get that. The next best option would be a post from a SWC curator saying they can't access it (such as this one right here).

Blocks

Why are all the blocks on this wiki hidden?
BookTV (talk | contribs) 01:03, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

Assuming you're talking about blocked users (as opposed to the things you use to build Scratch programs), they are hidden because blocks are supposed to only be between the blocked user and the Wiki bureaucrat was (in this case, while we may involve EWs or admins with discussing blocks, all decisions related to blocks are actually carried out by bureaucrats). We do not want to add an additional element of public shaming to blocks.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:17, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
However, this is the only wiki I have seen where blocks are hidden like this.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 13:09, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
Due to the nature of this Wiki and the community editing it (in particular how we work with the Scratch community, which is largely younger people, while most other Wikis are mostly edited by adults), we have to change how we operate accordingly. Since a lot of Wiki editors are still young and growing personally and learning what is/isn't good behavior online, publicizing blocks (and thus subjecting the editors to embarrassment) would probably cause more harm than good. Also, we generally try to follow Scratch rules and policies when applicable, and Scratch policy is that bans are private.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:14, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
Okay. I would also like to ask why users cannot talk about bans on Scratch on the Scratch Wiki.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 15:25, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
On the Scratch website, it is per Scratch Team policy, and while I do not know the reasoning for sure, I am assuming it is the same reasoning used here. The reasoning used here (other than being consistent with Scratch Team policy), as stated in my previous message, is that a lot of Wiki users are still fairly young and learning what's good/bad online behavior and should not be subjected to additional embarrassment by people discussing bans. The ban solely serves two purposes (not necessarily in this order): 1. to give consequences for users breaking the rules and 2. to protect the community from their actions until we believe they will resume contributing productively and respectfully. However, allowing other users to discuss bans does not help either of these purposes, but can embarrass/humiliate the person who was banned. This also can lead to people making fun of users for being banned. The basic idea of a ban is "you messed up, you're going to face some consequences, but once we have come to an understanding that you will resume contributing constructively we will welcome you back." If people are discussing the ban in their absence, that makes the last part ("we will welcome you back") harder, since they will carry stigma of being banned even after the ban is over.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:49, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
Okay, and also, the reason why I suggested you started elections for Experienced Wikians is that none of them are currently active.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 15:59, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── We have been taking stock of the situation and have deemed that our current EW+ are still adequate to meet our needs. We will periodically re-examine the situation and hold an election if we determine one is necessary.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 16:00, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

This leads me to another thing I would like to propose. I would like to propose that users meeting the requirements can request for a position at any time with their reasoning why they would want to be that position, and the members of the Scratch Wiki could vote if they want that user as that position or not. If the majority supports them becoming that position, then they could be promoted, and if the majority opposes, then they would not be promoted.
BookTV (talk | contribs) 16:14, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
EW (or admin or bureaucrat) is not a status symbol nor an achievement, it is a necessary role to oversee operations of the Wiki. We intentionally do not have a particularly large number of EW+, since the more we have, the harder it is to coordinate them. Your suggestion would lead to a much larger EW+ staff, which would be prohibitively difficult to manage. We want to have as few EW+ as possible to meet our needs.

April fools user subpages

Hi jvvg, is it okay if I make april fools versions of my user subpages?
JackyBorderCollie (talk | contribs) 07:48, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Yes, it is.

More welcomes

Hi jvvg, how can I get more welcomes to the wiki, like other users got. For example, bigpuppy and you welcome me to the wiki on my talk page. How can I get that?
JackyBorderCollie (talk | contribs) 10:49, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

How many people welcome you is solely dependent on how many people happen to be checking recent changes (or the new user log) at the time your account was created. Apparently at the time I created your account, not that many people happened to be checking those.

Talking through a mouse

Hi jvvg, how can I "talk through a mouse" on my user page?
JackyBorderCollie (talk | contribs) 17:52, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Just a little bit of magic.

Can't log in to Scratch

Hi Jvvg, so I tried logging in to Scratch, but it didn't work. I pressed the Login button a few times, but it didn't log me back in, and I didn't got banned. Any way how to fix this?
JackyBorderCollie (talk | contribs) 16:39, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

Scratch is experiencing downtime on the network level. Try again later.

Thank you! It comes up pretty frequently in the forums, so I figured we might as well make a FAQ for it.

Can I make a sub-talk page?

Hey jvvg, I was wondering if I could make a sub-talk page so I can move my current (pretty much blank) user talk there and replace it with a system like this, or add a secondary talk page?
Kccuber (talk | contribs) 12:29, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

You are welcome to make archives, but everyone should leave messages on your main talk page.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 14:33, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
Alright thanks! I was just wondering.
Kccuber (talk | contribs) 16:12, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

A few questions.

Sorry for asking you so much, but I still have 2 questions. My first question is, how did you do that "talking through your mouse" thing? My second question is, how do I create templates? Thanks.
Kccuber (talk | contribs) 21:23, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

I do the mouse talking using magic. Check out the templates help page for information on how to create templates.

Some grammar on your userpage

The part where you write "The apocolypse has begin" in the first part of your userpage, shouldn't it be "begun"? Just something I noticed :)
wangat (talk | contribs) 14:44, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Yes, that would be a mistake I made.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 14:55, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Revise the Wiki Guidelines?

Sorry for bothering you, but I noticed at the bottom of the Wiki Guidelines, it says "The most active administrator is Bigpuppy". According to their Scratch profile and Contribs, they're basically inactive. Should it be changed to another administrator?
wangat (talk | contribs) 10:04, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

I removed the admins for now.

Protect this image before a new one is uploaded

Hey, could you please protect this image before a new one is uploaded? Thanks! (Link: https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/File:Log-in_on_scratch.png)
PizzaPizza72 (talk | contribs) 17:01, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

I protected it for now. However, please do discuss on the talk page your rationale for uploading a new image.
