Quick Question
Hey jvvg! Just a question for you, but what are the wiki ranks? Is there even any?

Found a bug
I just found a bug were I was able too create a user even though I don't have the ability to do so. Jakel181 (talk | contribs) 15:44, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
- You did not create a user, you created the userpage. Those are two different things. Userpages are treated like any other page by the software and can be created by anyone. However, creating pages for other users (even those that don't exist) without permission is a violation of userspace.

Idea for April Fools
Every page that doesn't have an AF counterpart would have this appear in place of it's content:

Remove the Wikitext or go to the AF page to view the content that would appear. Also, how do you use CSS border-radius? 1a3c5e7g9i(Talk|Contributions) 21:10, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
- Just linking to a page isn't quite the same as the page being right there, though. For border-radius, just use
<tag style="border-radius:x"></tag>
as appropriate and replace "x" with the radius of the curve that will replace each corner.jvvg (talk | contribs) 21:12, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
- I was saying that the page's content's should be hidden (like when April Fools happens), and it would transclude it's content from
Scratch_Wiki:April_Fools/Scratch_Wiki:April_Fools
instead.1a3c5e7g9i(Talk|Contributions) 04:05, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
- To further clarify, they mean that if a page doesn't have an AF version, instead of transcluding

it would transclude

About the nomination page
Well, actually both the projectspace and the talkspace pages have a problem. On the projectspace, it says "Please read through the message before you submit it and make sure you agree with everything your posting." This should be "you're".
On the talkspace, specifically the template for nominating yourself, it's the template for the February 2016 elections. Shouldn't this be updated? kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 03:23, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
- I fixed the typo, but for the second one, since the template itself hasn't changed since the last election, there's no reason to create a new page.

categorize question
Hi! I'm a new Wiki member.
I made a page about what is a logo. Then, I got a message saying I need to categorize it. I looked at the tutorial on it, but still have absolutely NO clue what it is or how to do it.
- An example would be adding this to the bottom of the article:

- All categories are at Special:Categories. Also, that article you made is a duplicate of an article that already exists as User Icon and is going to have to be deleted.

- Take a look at the edit I undid on the original page, but this is what I did: Instead of doing image I did because there was an equals in the div so it thought the parameter "style" was being passed instead of parameter 2.

Some questions, some statements
I saw that you seem to be preparing to have WikiMonitor update the FPC. However, this does raise a few things in my mind:
- You have access to LocalSettings.php?
- There are actually three instances of the name of the curator:
;DATE NAME as FPC! :NAME is the new FPC! Feel free to congratulate -->NAME<-- on their profile!
- Thanks for showing me how to add a description to protection levels
I'm setting up a wiki, and I added a protection level but I had no idea how to add a description for it.
As I just mentioned above, I'm setting up a wiki. I would like to know if it's okay to export the help pages on this wiki and import them onto mine. So, the question is: Is it okay? and what credit should I give, if any, and how? Also, do you know of a way to export pages in a certain namespace instead of a certain category? The current interface only allows adding by category.
EDIT: Never mind about adding by namespace, I don't need it.
Additionally, on an unrelated note: my browser timed out twice on this page
Thanks; kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 03:10, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

A few things...
- veggie is nonbinary (clicky!), so please use the appropriate pronouns (they/their, etc.). Also, we shouldn't assume each others' genders. A lot of people thought I was female for a long time (I'm still not quite sure why), but I am actually male.
- Normally, we don't delete user talk pages. However, the reason for that is to allow users to communicate with a user regarding their edits and such. However, veggie has not been active for a while, so that is no longer necessary. In this case I am willing to make an exception.
- No, I don't know why veggie deleted their user/talk pages. It doesn't really matter though, so we should stop spreading gossip about it.

Could you help me out?
I’m trying to install the ConfirmAccount extension for my wiki, but I’m running into problems.
So my school assigns each student a student ID, ok? For example, I am s151087. When people request a wiki account, I want them to enter their student ID. This alone wouldn’t be sufficient verification - anyone could use someone else’s ID. Therefore, I’m taking advantage of the fact that every student has an eclass account, and asking for their eclass passwords as well. That way, I can test their username and password against the login page to see whether it’s actually them.
So far, no problem right? Here’s the problem: I don’t know how to do this. The way you modified the extension for the SW’s purposes still eludes me - what did you change? How can I modify the current version of the extension to do what I need it to do?
What I know includes the basics of PHP and the architecture of the school site. What I do not know is how to correctly modify the extension files to do what is needed. Could you help me out on this? kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 01:56, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

Problem with WikiMonitor
At my talk page, I had welcomed a user with my new welcome template with my signature already in it but I got a message from WikiMonitor that I needed to sign it. The page is User:78ch3/Welcome
78ch3 (talk | contribs) 08:59, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- How ironic that you didn't sign your post here...
- WikiMonitor looks for the (UTC) in the post - so if it's part of a template it doesn't see it. You should instead use
~~~~
to welcome users, so that the (UTC) is there for WM to see. This is not a problem with WikiMonitor - it's a problem with how you use your template.kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 07:39, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- first thing, sorry about that - I'm getting a bit short, it's the end of school and I wanna leave. Also, you're on an admin's talk page.
- Second, in that case please clarify - is the UTC inside the template or added after it?
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 09:01, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- Inside, but shouldn’t it be able to see it?
- PS: new sig coming, beware changes.
78ch3 (talk | contribs) 09:15, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- No, it can't look at template contents. Move your signature outside.
- *raises eyebrow*
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 09:19, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, WM looks for the timestamp, so you need to have it outside the template (or, potentially, you could do some magic with noinclude and subst). The reasoning behind that is that timestamps are independent of custom sigs (and I didn't want to try making it detect custom sigs, since that had the potential to be a total nightmare), and a signature isn't complete without a timestamp since we need to know when a message was posted and not just who posted it.
Also, kenny2scratch, please try to be more polite in the future (referring to your initial reply).jvvg (talk | contribs) 21:53, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
Automated Message
I'm sorry, I don't quite understand. What do you mean by "categorizing" my image that I uploaded?
-- --Waterfall-- (talk | contribs) 23:02, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
- When you upload a file or create a page, you need to put a category on it so everyone knows what it is. In your case, the category you wanted was Category:Users' Logos. To put it on an image, include the code
in the file description when you upload it.jvvg (talk | contribs) 23:10, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
--Waterfall-- (talk | contribs) 00:12, 9 December 2017 (UTC)
- It looks like for the last one, you put an unnecessary space in the category code (i.e.
Category:Users' Images
instead of
). Although this makes the category work fine, WikiMonitor will trip up. If you don't put in the extra space, you should be fine.jvvg (talk | contribs) 04:14, 9 December 2017 (UTC)
(A different) Automated Message
I received an automated message from you saying I have done too many edits in the last hour (9). I understand that I am supposed to take my time, but two questions:
- Am I supposed to continuously hit "save page" or "show preview"? I have been using "show preview", but there was one time that an article had a few mistakes, and I wanted to make sure I didn't lose the info, so I used "save page" a few times. I was wondering if this counts as an edit every time I click that button.
- Does editing my user page on the Wiki count as editing things? I have been doing that and I was wondering if that contributed to the nine edits. (I also hope this doesn't count >.<)
EIephant_Lover (talk | contribs) 01:34, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
- Every time you click "Save changes", it counts as an edit. The threshold to be notified is 6 edits in one hour, and you're only notified if they're all to one page. Also, yes, your userpage does count as an edit. The whole reason to avoid making lots of edits is to avoid clogging up recent changes (where some editors look to see what's been happening lately), and userpage edits show up there like any other pages.
- Oh!!! I'm sorry that I haven't been using the summary, I didn't know what it was for. I have been editing my user page a lot lately, and I didn't want to lose my info, so I used "save page". Sorry about clogging things up!! :D Thanks for the explanation.
Help
how do you become a admin.
-unsigned comment by The_scratch_voice (talk | contribs)
- You have to be elected. We hold Experienced Wikian (EW) elections whenever needed, and usually when holding those elections, we will promote any active EWs to admin.
Your moderator bot
Your bot left a message on my talk page saying I didn't sign a post when I always sign my posts on talk pages thanks.
-- -Lillion- (talk | contribs) 04:10, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
- If you leave something at the end of a section, you need to mark it as a minor edit. WM detects what is a message by seeing if it's at the end of a section, but will ignore minor edits.
Protect this page
I think this page here: https://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/wiki/Scratch_Wiki:Create_an_article
is worth protecting.
The scratch voice (talk | contribs) 19:01, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
- There are legitimate reasons other users might want to edit it (in fact, the last four edits are by non-EWs) and it's not that sensitive a page, so I don't think it's worth protecting.
Sorry
I'm sorry for making a page about the is online extension. I had no idea it was against the rules. I won't do that again.
The scratch voice (talk | contribs) 22:59, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
- It's fine, don't worry about it. The Wiki takes a bit to learn the ropes of, and the best way to do so is by editing. Remember we're all here to help, and never be afraid to ask a question either on the talk page of any active editor or the Community Portal. Likewise, if we ever do tell you that we deleted a page or undid an edit, don't be discouraged, just take it as a learning experience.
Wiki Monitor
I was sent a message from WM, the "categorize notice". At the first revision, it has 3 categories. But now, it has delete and no categories. I think pages with delete don't have to be with categories. What do you think?
-- Apple502j (talk | contribs) 00:43, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
- I have made the appropriate change.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:34, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi!
Are you back? I've seen you accepting account requests. Are you back, or do you just check in every once in a while? bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 21:47, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Actually, looking at your talk page, it looks like you come back often!
Add the new SDS
You should add the new SDS to the wiki front page!
Please change this
Hi! On the bot requests archive there is something that should be changed, but the page is protected. Under "Declined," the first bot's section should be a sub-section, not a full section. Please change the section code to "=== BOT NAME ===" instead of "== BOT NAME ==."
Thank you so much! bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 17:47, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
Done by me.
HehtorOCH (talk | contribs) 16:15, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- Welcome to the Wiki! I don't have any specific tips, but if you haven't read the Help:Welcome page, that's a good place to get started.
Delete and news entry
Can you delete the pages that I moved today and can you look at my new entry in the community portal
asqwde talk | contribs 18:32, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Asqwde! When moving pages, you can uncheck the "Leave a redirect behind" box and it will delete the previous page.
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 18:35, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- Ok. Thanks for your help.
questions about new domain
Hi Jvvg,
Is the news on the old domain still going to be updated? Also, the Scratch Wiki link at the bottom of every scratch page still goes to the old domain. We need to have the ST change that right?
Thank you,
Best_at_scratch2507 (talk | contribs) 05:58, 18 February 2018 (CET)
- The old domain will eventually be replaced with a notice that users are leaving the Scratch site and a link to this site. The link in the footer will be changed soon.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 06:00, 18 February 2018 (CET)
- The link in the footer on the Wiki has now been changed. The link in the footer on the Scratch website should be changed soon.
Stop WM
I stopped WM because it seems bad - It tells me lots of warning with '1 edit an hour'. 1 edit an hour is not bad. Apple502j Talk/Activities 2,243edit 14:11, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
- You can disable it if necessary, then wait a few minutes for it to stop and reenable it. 14:31, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
wiki monitor
I got a message from wiki monitor for editing a page 2 times in an hour. I don't see what is wrong with editing a page only two times in an hour. Is this a glitch? Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 18:33, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't notice someone else posted something about that.
Category
I just recieved the message, but I've already uploaded the file. How do I categorise it? Cinnamon bun puff (talk | contribs) 3:44 10 March 2018
- Hi! I categorized it under Category:Scratch 2.0 Program Images for you. You can categorize something by following the instructions shown at Help:Categories.
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 17:53, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
- Actually, I changed the category of the image to Category:Scratch 2.0 Data Blocks Images as File:Variable right click menu.png is in there and I feel like it might fit better there.
