Don't worry about it
Hey, don't worry about putting those warnings on the images I uploaded, I think they could be improved too.

Quick question...
Did you create the wiki?

?!?!!?!!!?!?!!!!!!???!!!!!!!!
Why did u delete my article!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dpinto04 (talk | contribs) 24th June 2015 2:56 PM
- The reason I provided in the delete log was: "[T]his doesn't really seem to document anything". What I meant by that is the fact that the Wiki is designed to document Scratch, its features, trends, etc. We do have how-to articles, but those explain how to take advantage of Scratch's features. Your article was really just a personal thing, explaining from a subjective view. Articles that are just about feelings really don't fit, as we try to write from a neutral, impersonal point of view.
- Also, one other thing. Please don't shout at me (or any other user) with excessive exclamation points. Don't worry, I can hear you.

Hi! :) I wanted to inform you that..
...I keep receiving messages to sign my posts, although I AM signing my comments. Please fix this, because I can't keep getting this for no reason.
dpinto04 (talk | contribs)
- You need to use 4 tildes, not just 3. You are forgetting the timestamp, which is important so that we can know when the message was posted. The bot actually looks for the "(UTC)" part of the signature, as it was the only consistent element I could find between the various custom signatures.

Catching Up
I ran a new 5K time (22:38) and a mile time (5:56). I hadn't trained for the mile at all and I hope to get it down to 5:00 by the end of the summer. What AP tests did you take? My mom teaches AP Chemistry. P.S. So glad to be back at the wiki!
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 22:07, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:57, 2 July 2015 (UTC)- Thanks! I want to run D1 cross country and run a sub- 2:00 marathon.
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 01:01, 3 July 2015 (UTC)- I personally actually don't want to do varsity XC in college, though I do want to do club XC or similar. Doing varsity sports (I'm told) takes a lot of time and limits what I can do academically. However, club sports have more flexible hours and require less of a commitment. I'm about to be a senior in high school, so I get to experience all the fun of applying to college.

How do you do something???
How do you change your scratch wiki avatar? I changed my scratch one, so shouldn't it change on here?
Banana439monkey (talk | contribs) 14:12, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, it does use your Scratch avatar. However, due to caching in various locations (the server as well as your browser), it can take a few days (sometimes more than a week) to change here.

The <scratchblocks> tag on the preview page
I have got a couple messages from your bots about having over 6 edits on a page within an hour recently. This is because the <scratchblocks> tag ins't parsed on the preview page. Then when I save, I realize there is a mistake in the scratch blocks. I'm assuming the parsing script isn't implemented on the preview page in the first place because it would parse the <scratchblocks> tags inside the text box, right? I'm sure it can ignore elements with certain names, so maybe if that's the case you could implement the script and have it ignore the text box (it's element ID is "wpTextbox1")
- The ScratchBlocks parse for me on the preview... Your browser probably encounters a scripting error along the way or something before it gets to parsing the blocks. You can also preview your scripts on the forums or at blob8108's test site thingy. What browser/OS are you using?
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:16, 26 July 2015 (UTC)- Hmm. I'm using Windows 8.1 and Google Chrome. Scratch blocks render fine, just not on the preview page. Certain types of formatting aren't parsed either, so it's probably not the scratchblocks code.

- I already invalidated jvvg's argument above. And I invalidated yours as well. Logic defeats opinion. Please, we need to mention all the details that are true. You're trying to censor information, PrincessPandaLover. I'm trying to help the article by adding more info.
TheHockeyist (talk | contribs) 23:47, 22 August 2015 (UTC)- Seriously, stop edit warring over a joke page. If you want to start flaming go back to the TBG's, not the wiki.
Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 00:00, 23 August 2015 (UTC)- Hey guys! I reviewed the information and facts!
- Keep in mind that it is an April Fools prank page, so please keep that mindset! Thus, references should not point to real information, or modified/tweaked information that actually happened in real life. The April Fools pages should be written from pure imagination!
- (The AF wiki is all personal. The Scratch Team would somewhat be offended if they knew about them being cats, evil cats, etc., so it would be OK for the Sonic vs Kerbels to stay.)
- Similarly to the Scratch Wiki, users can remove their own usernames from pages (except significant stuff, like Kaj).
- Since the AF fools pages are not improtant or significant relating to Scratch, it is basically open to anyone to edit and revise any part of it (although it would be better to leave/tweak a bit of people's edits.
- Similarly to the Scratch Wiki, users can remove their own usernames from pages (except significant stuff, like Kaj).
- Combining all these facts, we can conclude that:
- PPL can remove her own username from the wiki,
- With a bit of tweaking, the Sonic vs Kerbals can be included in the article.
- That is my own opinion, so jvvg, do as you please. Also, please keep personal opinion arguments from this discussion as we reach a consensus!
- KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 00:18, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- In this case, not all of the Wiki guidelines (e.g. no opinions, being accurate, not removing information) apply here. The reason I removed the Kerbal stuff originally was that it seemed a lot more "inflammatory" (i.e. pointed, provocative) than the Sonic stuff. I am not actually taking a side here or censoring stuff simply because I don't like it (in reality, I have no opinion about either Sonic or Kerbals). However, regardless of what goes or doesn't go on the page, the arguing about it is unacceptable. Reasonable discussion of stuff like that is always a good thing, but saying you "invalidate" other peoples' arguments or dismissing them as "opinions" when they do carry real merit is being rude and condescending, and as such is not upstanding Wiki behavior. Please remember to assume good faith when editing and recognize that other users are not out to get you. As for the page itself, I have removed everything I could see related to either Sonic or Kerbals for now.
- Also, a few other things about that page specifically: 1. The information does not need to be factually accurate, nor are opinions disallowed, as it is not a real Wiki page. 2. This is in my userspace, so technically I do have complete control and can remove stuff at will. I am trying to avoid exercising that right, but sometimes I have to, as I did in this case. Accusations about my behavior citing normal Wiki guidelines do not apply in this case, since it's in my userspace, and more importantly it's a joke article.

I have some questions about using your header
I'm currently using the coding from your header (with credit) on my user pages, and had a few questions on tweaking the code. If you're busy, you can just ignore this. It is not of great importance, and I don't mind if you come back to it later.
Is there a way I can add a background, such as an image or color? Is there a way to change the color of a link? Is there a way to change the color of the normal text? I took an 8 week crash course in HTML (and some CSS) a little over a year ago, and don't remember most of it. I know that I should be able to change the color of text, but for some reason I can't get it to work.
Would you mind helping me?
Purplebook163 (talk | contribs) 06:02, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, you can add a background. For a color, after the part that says "padding: 2px; text-align: center", add "; background-color:#XXX" (using the hex code for the color you want). For an image, instead add "; background-image:url(http://...)" To change the normal text, after that, add "; color:#XXX" (once again, use the hex code). However, inside links, I'm not sure how to change the color. That only changes the color of plain text.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:05, 23 August 2015 (UTC)- Okay, thanks! I'll go add that.
Purplebook163 (talk | contribs) 18:59, 23 August 2015 (UTC)- For some reason the background color doesn't seem to be working. Could you take a look and let me know why?
Purplebook163 (talk | contribs) 19:25, 23 August 2015 (UTC)- Oops, that should say "background-color" instead of "background-image". My mistake. Change that and it should work.

Purplebook163 (talk | contribs) 03:20, 26 August 2015 (UTC)- I figured out how to style links based on KrIsMa's sig!
- Also, I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my header. For some reason the div tag isn't working, and on every page I use my header on (the best example is probably my user page) is centered and included in the box. Do you know what's wrong?
- Thanks again for helping me out!
Purplebook163 (talk | contribs) 02:44, 27 August 2015 (UTC)- If that's happening, you probably didn't close your <div> tag. Make sure that all of your tags are closed properly.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 10:55, 27 August 2015 (UTC)- I've tried closing the tag, but it just shows up as text and I can't figure out why.

I think part of the problem relates to your use of HTML comments inside the style
attribute. Putting comments inside attributes can mess things up. Also, I notice you didn't close the <span>
tag for the "Scratch Account" link, which could be messing things up too. If you fix those things and add the </div>

TheHockeyist (talk | contribs) 15:50, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Error (disambiguation)
I noticed that you undid my revision, which I am totally fine with. Should none of the disambiguation pages be alphabetized? I ordered a lot of them yesterday, because I saw a few that were in order and others that were off by one or two items, so I figured that was something the needed done. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Should I revert my other alphabetizing?
purplebook163 | Talk | Contribs | Edits 📖 📕 🔖 19:11, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
- I don't think I reverted any edits on that page at all (I don't see anything by me in the edit history). For disambiguation pages, I don't think we have any conventions on ordering, so I guess leave everything as it is now (i.e. don't revert your edits) unless we either come up with new conventions or someone otherwise complains.

Your user pages at the international scratch wikis
Your user user-pages at the international scratch wikis do not all exists until now, nor are they interlinked: see: DE:user:Jvvg, ID:user:Jvvg, RU:user:Jvvg, JA:user:Jvvg, :HU:user:Jvvg and :NL:user:Jvvg. Would you mind to change that, so the people of the other wikis can see who you are?
NL and HU are not Interwiki connected here, but at all other wikis, see: DE:Special:Interwiki, ID:Special:Interwiki, RU:Special:Interwiki, JA:Special:Interwiki, :HU:Special:Interwiki and :NL:Special:Interwiki. So NL: is still red and NL:user:Jvvg doesn't result in an Interwiki-link here, but everywhere else.
Will you/can you change that? What could be the best time to change that?

FTP-rights to international scratch wikis: your answer to my mail
Dear Jacob, thank you very much for your answer to my mail: It strengthens my impression that you are absolutely the right person for difficult admin and sys-op-tasks, because it shows that you read and act very accurately and with care.
- Yes: Please implement your ConfirmAccount extension at the international wikis, starting with the DACH-Wiki
- Could you also help our Hungarian college hu:user:Pluzsu with her Wiki-Skin-Problems?
- By a question of KrIsMa about EW-Rights I found out, that you have much more sophisticated right system at the English wiki:
- Could you transfer that to the international wikis?
- Do we have you temporally to make bureaucrat for that?
- What do you think about:Scratch_Wiki_talk:Community_Portal#New Idea for the future of international Scratch-Wiki or even more. Could you comment there?
- As you see, the accounting-system and management of the international scratch-wikis is very complicated, because they are all on their own. In Wikipedia this is solved much better because there are multi-national-accounts (if you got one you got all). Also there is the possibility to run a family of wikis like explained here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Wiki_family . That's seem to be not so easy, because there they are still discussion different possibilities how to do it. I think we should step forward even without having this matter solved, but we should have this solution in mind, so we have someday a administration-minimal self-maintaining solution.
Thanks again in advance for helping so much at the international scratch-wikis!
MartinWollenweber (talk | contribs) 12:15, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
- 1. Yes, I will do that some time in the next few days when I get the chance.
2. I explained in the email what I think the solution is.
3.1. Yes. That shouldn't be too hard.
3.2. No, that's all in LocalSettings.php. However, once the rights system is set up, it will require a bureaucrat to assign users the appropriate groups.
4. I haven't read that yet, but I will read that once I finish typing this.
5. Yeah, managing cross-Wiki accounts is difficult. For the moment there's no way to directly link the accounts.

MartinWollenweber (talk | contribs) 05:33, 1 October 2015 (UTC)- I probably don't have the time to join that project, but if you or anyone else wants to join or use their code, that would be awesome. However, I doubt that simply because someone works with LEGO means that he knows Lightnin. LEGO is a pretty big company (however, it is still certainly possible).
jvvg (talk | contribs) 11:56, 1 October 2015 (UTC)- Your right Lightnin and GeorgeBarnick must not know each other only because they both work for LEGO, but LEGO sponsored the Livelong Kindergarten (Mitch Resnick was even called the "LEGO Professor") and both worked also intensive with Mediawiki, so it could be useful for them (and also for us) to know each other.

- I hope you are in good contact with our german admin and sysop de:user:akhof? He is a little bit unsecure about his English, but he's a great admin and programmer. He also created http://simpliciter-vok.de/index.php/english in Python.
- Please feel free to change http://test.scratch-wiki.info/wiki anyway you think it helps to reach our goal of creating more real working international scratch wikis. It's still experimental, so changes can be made fast and informal until it is established.
- Do you think that the Test-Logo (flush browser cache to see it!) is enough to make clear that it is not a real scratch wiki? Else you could change the skin to show a better difference.
MartinWollenweber (talk | contribs) 15:55, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- That's awesome! From now on, I will use the test Wiki before deploying any code on other Wikis. Unfortunately I haven't talked with Akhof at all, but I will try to get in touch. Yes, I do think that the logo is appropriate for conveying that it is a test.

your bot is annoying....
your bot recently sent me a notif about not signing. the thing is I didn't know how at the moment and was kind of confused. please don't ban me from that!

- Don't worry, we don't ban anybody for anything besides being mean to other users. The bot is just there to let you know for the future.

Wiki Monitor Update
How about a new profile picture for WikiMonitor because it has been the same for 2 years no. Just a suggestion. --

About the PPL stuff
It got so bad that I sent a note to the ST via Contact Us explainnig the whole situation from my point of view. Hopefully they will be able to sort things out when it comes to Sonic. Also, have you read our responses on PPL's talk page?
TheHockeyist (talk | contribs) 01:14, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I have read both of your replies. I'm still figuring out what I'm going to say in response. In response to this message specifically, I hope we can resolve this without the Scratch Team, but if they do get involved, I will do my best to assist them. In the meantime, I am going to start the discussion about adding Sonic content, as I promised I would do in my original message. My best advice for you going forward is to remain calm and try to avoid escalating the situation or "feeding the fire". Remember that a fight takes two people, and remaining calm will usually cause the other person to realize that there is no cause for alarm.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:20, 27 October 2015 (UTC)- Okay. Just making sure that you are aware.

WikiMonitor unsigned post message
I was wondering if I could change WikiMonitor's unsigned post message it so it explains how to sign your posts? Maybe something like:
16:45, 1 November 2015 (UTC)You did not sign your post on (...). Please insert your signature by typing four tildes "~~~~" and the end of your post, or use five tildes "~~~~~" to insert the date and time if you are using a custom signature.
Thank You!
- Even if you use a custom signature, you can go to preferences to set that as what goes in when you use four tildes, though.

@scratchisthebest forgot his password
@scratchisthebest forgot his password and is having trouble with "forgot password" feature, saying that it is "non-functional". He can't contact you either on Scratch, because his school blocked Scratch (he posted a screenshot earlier, remember?) Here is the original message:
“ | @Rumanti hey could you pass on a message for me? I forgot my wiki password, the wiki's forgot password button is nonfunctional, and I can't get on scratch to tell jvvg because i'm blocked at school. gitter isn't blocked at school and you're a wiki editor :P so this is as close as i can get ! | ” |
Can you help? Thanks.
Rumanti (talk | contribs) 08:02, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I am not able to reset passwords, and "forgot password" is broken because email functionality is broken here. The only way to reset a password is to contact the Scratch Team directly and ask them to reset it.

How about:
Forgetting to sign
In [[REVISION|this revision]] you forgot to sign your post, please remember to sign your posts on talk pages with four tildes (~~~~) for future references. This will help people identify who you are. Thanks!
Several edits in a short period of time
Please do not make many edits to one page ([[PAGENAME]]) in a short period of time or tick the "This is a minor edit" box. Another way to prevent this from happening again is to use the show preview button or by pressing alt, shift and p. Thanks!

- It's still useful to point out the specific post and give a link to the revision, so the user knows what WM is talking about. For the second one, minor edits are still counted, and it's better to put the subject as a request rather than just an explanation. Thank you for your suggestions, though.

MIT
Hey jvvg! I saw on the CP that you applied to MIT!! That's really amazing, I wish you the best of luck! I am also looking to apply to MIT in the future, so I've been taking the initiative to talk to as many people as I can about what their experience in high school was. I was wondering if you could tell me what classes you took so I could compare my schedule? :D I understand if you don't want to, thanks anyways ^.^ Regardless, I wish you the best of luck in getting accepted to MIT!
St19_Galla Talk • Contribs 21:57, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks! I hope I get in. The classes I've taken are: math up to AP Calculus BC (I'm currently in that), Spanish up to AP Spanish Language (I took that last year), history including AP World and US histories, my school's regular English classes (I didn't want to take AP English Language or Literature), AP Chemistry, AP Physics C. I've taken a bunch of other classes, including the classes leading up to the classes I described, but I don't think I need to list those.
- I do have something important to say about your request, though. You really just need to demonstrate that you are taking full advantage of your school's curriculum and challenging yourself. There's no magic formula of classes, and you definitely don't need to take the most advanced level in every course. Take what you think is challenging but not impossible, and that's really what you need. Colleges want to see that you're making the most of high school for yourself, and the exact classes are really what you think are the best.
- One other thing I have to say about college applications is activities and stuff. I know a lot of people who do various activities just because they think it looks good for colleges. That's not a good idea. Instead, just pick a few activities that you actually enjoy and stick with them. They want to see that you are really doing what makes you you. Do the activities you want to do, and never think you have to do something because it looks good for college. You really don't. Also, don't stress yourself out about college. I am kind of freaking out right now, and I know I really shouldn't be. There's a huge amount of randomness, and there are probably 50 colleges out there that you would love, and hundreds that you would at least tolerate. Don't get tied up in one college decision determining your self-worth. You'll get in where you get in, and once you're there, make the most of it.

I'm still a freshman, but I only have a couple of hours :/ My dream is to get into an Ivy League College for Information Technology, particularly in Web Security, like @Thisandagain*. - Yeah, my top three schools are MIT, Caltech (am I allowed to say that on an MIT site? :P) and Olin College of Engineering. If I get into any of those three, I will be very happy. I wish you well in the journey through high school, and hope that you get into a good college where you can thrive. I also hope I will still be around here when you are applying to college, whether or not I end up going to MIT.

Question on an Edit
Hi! I just had the inspiration to see if there was anything on the Wiki that teaches how to Snip forum posts. I didn't see anything, and I didn't even see a general topic on "Forums" which would be where I'd add it...so I was wondering if there's something I missed, if that topic is needed at all, where I should add it, and if not add it, should a new article be made on it?
I hope that made an ounce of sense.
Amateurradiogeek15 (talk | contribs) 16:02, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
- What do you mean by "snip forum posts"?
jvvg (talk | contribs) 22:51, 22 December 2015 (UTC)- Snipping is the shortening of tree quotes, which occur when people keep quoting. This ends up to be a huge post, which keeps getting longer every time someone posts. The shortening of that post is called a snip, but it is difficult to do if you don't know how to do it properly. (I know this from personal experience. ) That's why I think it should be represented in some way on the Wiki, if it's not already.
Amateurradiogeek15 (talk | contribs) 00:22, 23 December 2015 (UTC)- That does seem to be an important thing, but I can't exactly figure out where it would fit in the forums article. Maybe we should create an article on forum quoting or something? (We should see what others think before doing that, though)
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:16, 24 December 2015 (UTC)- Can you show me the forums article? I searched for it and couldn't find it. That sounds like a good idea to me! I'd be willing to undertake the creation of said article. Probably start out with something in my sandbox. :) Thing is, I don't remember how to start a sandbox page. How quickly I forget these things...

You can create a sandbox at Special:MyPage/Sandbox. Also, you can find the forums article at Forums.

- Ok on the Forums article....but I already have a sandbox page there - full of other stuff... Is it possible to make a different page off of that one or something?
Amateurradiogeek15 (talk | contribs) 23:38, 25 December 2015 (UTC)- You could do Sandbox2 or something. Alternatively, if you aren't currently using what's already there, you can just replace it and if you need it later, just find the revision.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 23:42, 26 December 2015 (UTC)- Ok! I just wasn't sure. ;) I did think about that second option as well, but what's there has to do with another user also, so I asked him if we needed it anymore, and he asked me to keep it, if it wasn't being a bother...So, I suppose it can stay. Thanks!
Amateurradiogeek15 (talk | contribs) 01:18, 27 December 2015 (UTC) - Do you think that the Snipping Posts section could go under "Editing Posts" on the Forums article?

Hi jvvg, sorry to contact you via the wiki, but I cannot log in to the modshare page. My password is not accepted and when I try register, I get a code to paste to the user verification project, but it does not work. The help webform at modshare has a dead captcha. Can you help me?
Frodewin (talk | contribs) 23:46, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, we don't actively support Mod Share anymore. Since I created the registration page, the way that comments are retrieved has been changed, and I haven't updated the page to reflect that. If I get the chance in the next few days, I will try to fix the registration page, but just be aware that Mod Share isn't actively maintained by anyone anymore due to the fact that mods are mostly obsolete with Scratch 2.0.

Add to Scratch Trends
Hi, I asked this on the CP but then figured it shouldn't go there, so I'm moving it here (since you're an admin).
Could I add a section for "Flat Design" projects to the Project Trends article? I hope you don't mind me asking, but I'm new here so I want to be sure I'm doing this right. I don't know if I'm supposed to ask before I make changes like this or not .
