What happened to the big topic we were chatting on? -PRO- (talk | contribs) 12:58, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

- True. So about that student pack, it is only if you want to be a web developer?
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 23:03, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- No, it has tons of other stuff. It includes 5 free private git repos on GitHub, a really awesome code editor, a screen sharing utility, and a game dev suite. See the full list on their website.

- You did say random page would be nice, and this once gain brings us to the same issue : if we imported them, then we'd have to use history. There are also some other reasons why we should link to it.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 15:05, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
- [citation needed] We do not in fact have to use history. We can do exactly what we did last year and make them a subpage of somebody's userpage (importing lets you do a prefix) and then transclude. While random page may be nice, it does not outweigh the value of having the pages here. Seriously, it's not funny at all just to have a link.

Though I had a thought. Redirect to the AF pages, then display the drop down. Anyway, I still wanted that extension Krett12 (talk | contribs) 18:22, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

- You need a webserver running (if you have a web hosting account, use it). Create a directory for it (like /forums or something) and then upload it there. Then go to http://yoursite.com/path/to/your/forums, and click "Begin installation". Also, I can help you with any code help you may need too. ;)

I saw your post on Krett12's talk page. I am wondering what the rule is. I don't understand what I did. Thanks. -PRO- (talk | contribs) 22:10, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
- BRD means Bold, Revert, Discuss. Basically, it's a rule to prevent edit warring. If one person makes an edit that makes a fairly significant change to a page and someone else reverts it, rather than edit warring, discuss it and get other peoples' input. See S:GUIDES for more information.

But I CAN install FutureBB. I find the installation to be extremely similar to MediaWiki, which I have 7 years of hands-on experience with. Krett12 (talk | contribs) 14:46, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
- I never said you can't install FutureBB, I just said it's a little more difficult. If your server is properly set up, it's actually really not harder. Anyway, why can't you sign up on MS? What problems does it give you?

Although I haven't moved on Scratch, I usually go by Fimatic everywhere (it's an acronym) on teh interwebs () - would I be allowed to redirect User:Fimatic to my userpage and change my scratchsig to

derpmeup (talk | contribs) 17:47, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
- Well, you'd still have to log in as derpmeup. Ask on the CP, as there is no precedent for this and community input would be nice.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 17:58, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
- Until someone made a wiki account with that name. Your contribs would go under derpmeup and your edit count would also go under derpmeup. Those are just a couple examples of how it wouldn't be that big of a change. i would prefer you not to do that though. I don't care about the userpage but I wouldn't want you to change your name on your signature.

I am going to start learning Java after Christmas and I was wondering if there were any tasks on the wiki that could be done by a bot. I don't care if my bot wasn't accepted, but I would need ideas for projects. Thanks. -PRO- (talk | contribs) 20:09, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Krett12 (talk | contribs) 03:47, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

jvvg (talk | contribs) 13:45, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- But if you permanently left and you were not there to make a decision.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 15:05, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- I have no plans of permanently leaving, at least not until I go to college (in a year and half, and I will probably still stick around beyond that time). If I do leave permanently, I will either choose somebody to run WM or have the community as a whole choose the most trusted and technically capable person. Since WM is a bot that affects everybody, it works best if we have somebody everybody approves of running it. Also, if I leave temporarily for longer than two weeks, I will either just deactivate it or run it remotely (I have remote access to my server via VPN).

Can ya help me?
You live in the US, can you tell me how US currency works? I'm trying to set up ECommerce software. Krett12 (talk | contribs) 03:28, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
- I can. You have cents and dollars. 100 cents = 1 dollar. A dollar is usually in paper money but coin dollars are rather new in the US. All cents are in coins. So something like $50.78 would be 50 dollars and 78 cents, which is = 50.78 dollars.
Here are some different coins:
1 penny = 1 cent
1 nickel = 5 cents
1 dime = 10 cents
1 quarter = 25 cents (i.e. 1/4 a dollar is a quarter)
The $1 bill is the most basic kind, there are $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, and even higher amounts all in one paper slip. Fun fact, the dollar bill has an owl in the top-right corner, super duper small. All to prevent fraud.
1 dollar is pretty similar to what they use in Europe. 1 dollar is .80 euros. Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 05:53, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
- I don't live in Europe I live in Canada. I once rode a bus where they accepted US currency, and there were some faces in the center of each piece of paper.

FutureBB Code
Does FutureBB have any Java or SQL? -PRO- (talk | contribs) 23:54, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- FutureBB is programmed in PHP, but it stores the data in a MySQL database. This means that it uses SQL to access the data in the database, so there is a large amount of SQL at play in it. However, the SQL is partially abstracted in some cases (e.g. on install.php I don't have the table creation code hardcoded, instead I use objects to represent the tables, so that it can also work on SQLite).
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:32, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- So you need a SQL programmer?
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 16:44, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- No, I think I've got it. (I'm a god at SQL)
jvvg (talk | contribs) 17:08, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- Alright. I'm going to learn SQL and Java.
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 17:10, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- Just FYI, SQL isn't a programming language by itself. SQL stands for Structured Query Language. It's a language that lets you pull information from a database, often in fairly complex and customizable ways (you can choose how information comes out and you get a lot of control). However, all SQL does is get you the information (or set it). You need another programming language to process that information (in your case Java, and in my case PHP since it's a web program).

Well you do. I meant I would. -PRO- (talk | contribs) 20:24, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- If you want some good examples of SQL, look through the "app_resources" folder. Some particularly good ones are app_resources/admin/reports.php and [app_resources/viewtopic.php]. Although the PHP is very different from Java (those aren't standalone scripts, btw, a lot of the stuff they need comes from other files), you still can see the SQL I used.

The Scratch Wiki says it has been running for 6 years. It actually has been running for 6 years and 1 day! Jandrewg (talk | contribs) 18:58, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

- If you really insist... Anyway, what do you have against them?
jvvg (talk | contribs) 12:02, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- I strongly feel that EW protection is not enough. If it was created because we can trust them with every single page, we might as well just make them sysops. EW protecting it makes me feel that it is less important, and infact, it is a smaller protection level. If I wanted EWs to be able to edit it, I would have asked for that. Protection was created to let the least amount of users to edit as possible. Infact, if scmb1 was active and had the time to do so, I would've gotten editlockedpages.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 15:08, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- It was actually made for the original purpose of limiting the changing of pages to only a specific group of trusted users for various reasons, or to prevent edit warring, which warrants a block and a protection on many wikis. The developers of MediaWiki wouldn't have made a feature that lets the least amount of people possible edit a specific page with that flag; the purpose of a wiki is to create an educational website made entirely by collaboration and volunteer work.

Question
I asked you a question on my user talk page as a reply to the welcome message. You probably didn't get a notification. I'm still very used to the <code>{{ping|user}}</code> that I do on Wikipedia. Is there even "echo" on the Scratch Wiki? But anyways, is there a page in the Scratch Wiki namespace for proposals? Thanks, Ultimate Q (talk | contribs) 13:07, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- I replied to the original question on your user talk page. We don't really have any code to notify users besides just telling them on their talk pages. However, most of us check RC fairly often, so we'll see it.

Scratch 2.0 Modding
Can you answer this question on my talk page? Jandrewg (talk | contribs) 23:00, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

You aren't really as sly as you think
Why not check your Scratch notifications? Krett12 (talk | contribs) 20:23, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- I am not trying to be sly. I am simply trying to notify scmb1 about the issue in a way that people won't just come upon it by looking at her profile. However, regardless of whether or not you have seen it, the issue stands. In that case, I was intending for her to explain the situation to you (you don't seem to honor the requests made by KrIsMa or me). Anyway, to follow a request I made to you on your talk page, please stop entering my discussions with other people about the Wiki.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 21:36, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Furthermore, I do not appreciate the connotation of your message that I am trying to be sneaky and sabotage you or anything like that. As I said above, I was simply trying to explain the situation to a bureaucrat so that she could talk to you, as her messages generally carry more weight than mine, and that was the most effective way to notify her.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 21:39, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Anyway, I have an important thing to say. You probably saw that the main point I was trying to make in that discussion was your lack of respect for other editors. If you will be willing to rectify that (i.e. be respectful to others and assume good faith) in the future, then everything will work fine and further discussion with scmb1 won't be necessary. Can you please reply to this comment specifically saying you will be respectful to other editors in the future please? If you do that and follow through with that promise, then I will be willing to forgive you for the incidents in question (and all previous incidents), as long as you remain respectful in all of your edits.

If it is a challenge to be respectful to other users, then maybe the Wiki is not the right place for you. It's not always easy, but you have to do it. If you want a practical strategy, wait a few minutes after writing your messages before posting them and consider how other people might view them. If you're feeling emotional about something (i.e. if you feel someone offended you or something), then wait until you've cooled down before responding. jvvg (talk | contribs) 22:52, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- I know that I'm not a part of this discussion, but I'd like to give one tip – you once said that you usually get onto a computer and go onto this wiki after you've gotten very upset, so what I'd advise is that you come on when you're more level-headed and to avoid coming on when you're emotionally upset.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 23:54, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah--it's a lot more different story. Also, could you please teach me how to say "I know that I'm not a part of this discussion, but I'd like to give one tip" and be allowed to butt into discussions.

KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 01:17, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Krett, can you please calm down? derpmeup was just trying to provide some helpful advice. If you do not appreciate it, then you are welcome to ignore it. However, he does have a right to post here.
