Gobo page messed up

I accidently messed up a bit of the Gobo page. Please could you fix it? :)
SpiritMaster (talk | contribs) 07:21, 9 April 2011 (UTC) SpiritMaster

Undid your edit ^^ I think it's 'fixed' now...

Alternatives' account

Hey, you created Alternatives' account, but he forgot his password. Do you know it? (I still don't have account creation privileges, and Lucario hasn't replied on his message board.)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:18, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

I think they forgot about the account thing - I'll ask again :P (BTW, we can't find users' passwords - only JSO can, because he's the Scratch Wiki wizard that can do all sorts of cool things :D)
Can't you get a password multiple times from here? If you can't... well, Chris and I always save the passwords we use when creating accounts (after an account messup some months ago), so in answer to your question - yeah. :P
Gonna comment on one of Alternatives's projects...
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:45, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
It worked for Sparks when I linked him there. :/
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:51, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Can I have random sounds please

Yeah, you gave Lucario some random sounds (here), so can I have some? :P

Oh, yeah, and maybe have a sinister feel to them please.

Thank you!
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:15, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Uh, let's see... "Whipper snabbit wabbit"? (The ones I gave Lucario were from Spore, and the one I'm giving you is the sound Tauntauns make in Star Wars xP)

I think Mod Central might deserve a page

While I know Scratch fansites aren't allowed, I don't think mod central is really a fansite. It is a place to collect and share mods, and it already had a section: Scratch Modification#Mod Central. Why did you delete it without making sure?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:27, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

erm... I deleted the section. the page was deleted, and the website doesn't even work. so, uh... yeah.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:30, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
I just saw that.
The site doesn't work?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:30, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Uh, is there really a difference between fansites and non-fansites in this case? :P
If you want to see the discussion we had, go here.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:36, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
yeah, the site doesn't even work.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:38, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
I guess we don't need it if it doesn't work...
I can also see the discussion here, as I often do. :P

grrr... i wish i had special admin powahs.

pssssh.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:46, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
You could always ask for them :P (TBH, I was considering 'resigning' and letting JSO give you the powers instead, but then I wouldn't be able to help with the account approval D:)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:39, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
You can't resign!
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:41, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't deserve them anymore :/
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:45, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Why do you say that?
I think you're an excellent admin.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:19, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
yeah, you're a super awesome admin! why resign?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:39, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't really do any edits anymore; I don't deserve the power and rank.

The Programming Wiki?

What was the Programming Wiki?
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 20:40, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

The predecessor to this wiki - http://scratch.wikia.com. Take a look at it, step back through time xD
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:27, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
(It's actually called the Scratch Programming Wiki :P)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:30, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, step back in time. XD
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:24, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Mind if I ask about your computer usage? :P

Like, what times (New Zealand time) are you and Chris generally on? I like to time my online when friends are on. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:31, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

BTW, I have an additional clock on my computer for this, that says "New Zealand".
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:31, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Really? xD
Well, Chris and I normally come on at around 5:30PM New Zealand time, and we normally go off at around 11PM... we do leave the computer several times in between though :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:35, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Really. Clock1 is my timezone, 2 is Scratch Time, and 3 is New Zealand.
11PM? You get more than an hour than me! XD
(Actually, since I'm on during the day too...)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:37, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
We're not on continuously from 5:30 to 11 :P
We come on in the daytime a bit too - ooh, so many more people online there ;'(
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 09:33, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Actually, I meant I have to get off at 10 for bed. ^^
Sometimes fun with more people on. ;)

Why did you delete Finding Project Ideas? I worked SO hard on that!!!

Plz tell me!!

I can't figure out how to reply to someone's comment on the wiki!!!!
Sheepy123 (talk | contribs) 12:06, 2 June 2011

You do what I'm doing at the moment :P After the comment you want to reply to, push Enter and use colons (:) for the indenting. Then type your message after the colon(s).
Don't forget to sign your posts btw - your signature will let us know who you are and when you posted. I added your signature for you. (Sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~).)
(Oh - if you want to make a new 'topic', start your posts with ==TOPICNAME== :) Scimonster added one for you though :P)

TOO MANY HYPHENS

The amount of hyphens you have you your userpage and all of your edits pains me!!! You can't connect sentences with hyphens. Its not grammatically in American or British english.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 06:36, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

I already explained — those are supposed to be dashes, but I (and a lot of other people) use hyphens in place of them since there isn't a dash key.
Eh, I guess I'll replace those dash-hyphens with the dash template.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:58, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Dashs and hyphens serve the exact same purpose. Here are some examples in which a hyphen/dash is acceptable:
  • Miami beat Kansas 31–0.
  • Radical–Unionist coalition
  • Boston–Hartford route
  • New York–London flight
    Dazman (talk | contribs) 08:01, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Dashes aren't exactly the same as hyphens — see, I just used a dash and it's not 'acceptable' to replace it with a hyphen there :D
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 08:04, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
They aren't exactly the same but the serve a similar purpose. Dashes and Hyphens both connect words, not sentences. You can use a dash if your word runs off the end of the page, but that doesn't happen on the wiki since the text wraps.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 08:11, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Dashes can be used to connect two parts of a sentence (I forgot what they're called)... an example: "He swung the dagger at her throat — she dodged and nearly slipped in a puddle."
I hate grammar discussions xD
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 11:16, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Jon's right, but not all of those sentences need dashes (and would be better with a period or a comma).
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 15:59, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

It is better to write, "He swung the dagger at her throat; She dodged and nearly slipped in a puddle".
Dazman (talk | contribs) 16:21, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Well you wouldn't capitalise "she", but the two sentences are pretty much equivalent. It's just a stylistic choice, really. I prefer using a period.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 16:25, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I like using a period too. I just don't like hyphens XD
Dazman (talk | contribs) 16:34, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Most of the places that we have hyphens should have a semicolon.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:16, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Either works.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 15:15, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Hyphens = connecting words
Dashes = connecting thoughts
Semicolons = connecting clauses
A dash would be used in the example of:

"The memories of my history teacher — some of my worst memories — still echo in my brain."

A semicolon would be used in the example of:

"He couldn't eat his whole plate of food; so the waitress took it away"

And a comma would be used in the example of:

"My best friend, called Paul, wanted to go to the Moon"

The Current Events Page

We have a new scratch design studio! It is "When I grow up" http://scratch.mit.edu/galleries/view/136936 It should be updated :D
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 00:31, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

JJ, you should really remember to sign using four tildes. I know I always forget, but when previewing, I realize it's not there.
Cygene (talk | contribs) 00:38, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Updated :) Added your signature btw — please remember to sign in future ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 09:26, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
: Test ok
Sorry, I should have made it clearer — don't put the parentheses in there ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:23, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks :D
Don't forget to sign, JJ. ;) If you put a space first, it treats it like preformatted text, and that's not what you want. ;)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:07, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

I'm really confused

What do you mean by signature? Also, why can't I reply to your comments on my thing above? What do you mean by future?

Sorry for all the questions.
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 06:45, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Your signature when posting is what shows up after people's posts, and is only used in talk pages, not articles. It contains the user's picture, name, contibs, talk, and timestamp (when the sig was added). For example, mine says "Cygene (talk | contribs) 01:27, 11 September 2011 (UTC)". To add it, you need to add four tildes (~~~~) after the post.
Cygene (talk | contribs) 01:27, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
No problem, don't feel bad about asking questions :P
Cygene explained signatures pretty well ^^ Whenever you post (this thing I'm typing is a post), add four tildes (~~~~) to the end of it. When you save the page, the tildes will be converted into your signature.
To reply to someone, click the Edit button at the top of the page (or you can click the Edit button to the right of page sections to edit only that part). Type like you normally would, only you won't be creating a new header. You can indent your posts by adding colons ( : ). Take a look at how I'm doing it if you're still confused ^^ (You can use multiple colons for greater indents.)
About posting in future — I was simply asking you to sign your posts from then on :)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 01:49, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
What does signing do?
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 17:09, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
It lets other people know who you are and when you posted. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:05, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Ok I see.
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 18:53, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
I put my sig showing now. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:59, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Okay Cool!
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 05:27 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Are there any...

Are there any pages on the wiki that need to be updated often?
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 13:27, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Scratch Design Studio, Curator, Scratch Suggestions, List of Scratch Modifications. That's off the top off my head.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:32, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

How do I make a new page here?

I mean like a completely new page. Am I allowed to do that?
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 04:21, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Of course you're allowed :P
Edit the URL to the article you want and create the page:
http://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/wiki/articlenamegoeshere
The article "Scratch Wiki pwnz" would be:
http://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/wiki/Scratch_Wiki_pwnz
Click on Create when you're at the page you want, and edit like you normally would.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:40, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
I asked this because we don't have a page for Collab Camp yet and I wanted to make one.
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 13:45, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Err... Collab Camp?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:47, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
0_0 I didn't see that.
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 13:50, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Anyway, now I won't make it but for future refrence, how would I title the page?
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 13:52, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Did you search? :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:55, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Title it how you think best. Like, Curator is about a curator. Move () Steps (block) is about that block. :)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:55, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Articles can always have their name changed without causing any trouble, so don't get worried about titling a page wrong :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:43, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks :D Do we already have a "Scratch Fads" page telling about how different things that scratchers like come and go?
You can always use the search thingy :P
I'm not sure if that article would be a good one though — maybe you could bring the idea up on the Community Portal?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:29, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
Where's that? Sorry.

JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 02:41, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Here :) You'll recognize it btw xD

Question

Is it posible to create a wiki page where people can reply? Many thanks, GuyOfSteel
GuyOfSteel (talk | contribs) 20:11, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

No, the wiki doesn't really work like that. But we use the Community Portal for discussions about the wiki in general. For discussions on specific articles, we use the article's talk page. And for telling things specifically to a user, we use their user talk page.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:34, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
You can get to your talk page by going to your user page, then clicking on Discussion :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:18, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

userpage

How'd you get those links to your other pages in the blue box at the top of your userpage. I couldn't find it in any userpage wiki help.
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 21:12, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

You have to copy and paste the source of the box, just got to User:Jonathanpb/Header and hit edit, than copy the source into your userpage. And then just change all the User:Jonathanpb to User:Curiouscrab. One more thing, please put your sig at the bottom of you post when you are talking to somebody on there talk page.
Joletole (talk | contribs) 22:16, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Umm what he said :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 21:30, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 20:03, 3 October 2012 (UTC)I tried that and it said page doesn't exist. Also, what do you mean by sig.

Your signature, the 4 tildes.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 20:19, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Discovery

I discovered a way to make it so nobody but you can edit your userpage. Here it is in scratchblock form because I can't figure out how to use it in coding. <!-- User:Jonathanpb user page can only be edited by (members). If you want to make some minor changes to this page, post the changes you want to make on the Community Portal discussion page. If you want to make a large change to this page, put this page's text onto your sandbox (User:Username/Sandbox) and edit it there. Show us your suggestions and we'll see how it goes. -->

You would change members to your username.
CuriousCrab (talk | contribs)

Hey, just so you know, if anyone ever does edit someone else's userpage, then it will get rollbacked. So don't worry about someone else editing his userpage. You should be focusing more on the edits you make and not about editing someone else's userpage.
Joletole (talk | contribs) 23:02, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
It's nothing huge if someone edits it, I can always revert it. And please stop messing around with my userpage :/
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:50, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, I figured out how to create the header. You have to create an entirely different page.
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 19:35, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
Well, you don't have to create an entirely different page.
Joletole (talk | contribs) 15:04, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
Yikes. My signature on the original post is messed up.
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 19:36, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Suggestions

Can you make it an option to edit or design our own scratchsig or keep the default with a easier way? I know if you do this it works. I changed my scratchsig for this comment only. I would like to be able to keep one (not this one specifically) as my scratchsig.
Curiouscrab's edited scratchsig (talk | contribs)

Sorry, but that is not allowed at all. If you do that, the link wont link to your user page. Also, you should focus on the edits you make and not your sig.
Joletole (talk | contribs) 21:11, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
You let Wolvestar97 make hers. I can make my picture, but I need to know if it's allowed and how I'll do it. http://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/wiki/User:Wolvesstar97/sig
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 01:06, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Well, if you don't know how, than you probably shouldn't do it. You can't edit the words to link to a different user page. You should have photoshop if you want to make one. But, you shouldn't care that much. You need to focus more on the edits you make than designing. You shouldn't go overboard when designing your stuff. The point of joining the wiki is to fix up articles and make sure everything is ready for the viewers.
Joletole (talk | contribs) 01:28, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
You'll have to ask JSO about editing your signature; he created the signature code, not me :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 09:28, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

hacked

This wiki isn't protected by hackers. I just got hacked. I know because my mouse became useless and the screen started scrolling on it's own. I shut the computer down and the hacker lost connection. Can you make sure this is hacker protected?
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 23:55, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Hacking in the common sense is about your account being stolen and has nothing whatsoever to do with mouse control or scrolling. Possibly your computer simply glitched or lagged?
JSO is the person to ask regarding technical matters actually.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:47, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
This wiki is completely clean of hackers. You probably pressed the middle button which makes the screen scroll on its own.
