Please compress files you upload

Hello, I'm TemplatesFTW, a bot that does various maintenance tasks in the background. This is just a friendly reminder that when uploading File:100p.png, File:All at once block.png, File:Todo.png, File:Confusedface.png, File:-zzz- .png, File:1f973.png, and File:Sigprofile.png, the image size was kinda big, and it could have been smaller if you had compressed it with TinyPNG. Don't worry - I compressed it for you, but I just want to ask you to compress any files you upload, before uploading them. Thanks!

I don't think we can have the big (EXTERNAL) text, because:

  1. Redirects can NOT link to external sites. Try it.
  2. I'm not 100% sure about the how bit: there isn't a way to change that with the wiki software MediaWiki, as far as I know.
  3. Any user adding external links could add {{External Programs}} manually, so it doesn't necessarily have to be a periodic function.
  4. It would immediately break the template {{plain link}}, and while you might say, "How do you know a link in that template is safe?" Well, the document page clearly stated, only use this template if users clearly know that some links are external, so it wouldn't be necessary at this situation (assuming good faith of course).
  5. I think the ‎ icon is big enough for people to see. It's an opinion, but it does make any new-reader-on-the-internet to double-check what they're clicking.
  6. Suppose that example.com is a virus page. Also say that someone vandalised the Scratch Lab page. This is the first sentence of the page:
“ The Scratch Lab, which can be found here: (EXTERNAL) https://lab.scratch.mit.edu, is a place where the Scratch Team posts their latest experiment. ”

– I made it up.

The external link in that case actually redirects to example.com, the virus page. The problem is that we can make it looks like it directs to a safe external website but it acutally links to a virus website. So a vandal can still trick someone in this case.

[main] I do not mean redirects to external links, I mean soft redirects or page mirrors/forks (copies) that converted all links to go to the supposed malware page (e.g.: my example page redirect2) However, it's only a request to try and make the Wiki «more foolproof».

  1. Already covered in [main].
  2. No, but I think it could be made via the server. (again, I'm not sure, but it's just an idea).
  3. Yes, but less-visited pages won't be noticed.
  4. It would, but for the greater good.

Two more things:
2. Not sure about the idea; the offical document page didn't say anything simliar. And yes they (the wiki admin team) *could* make some javascript that appends (EXTERNAL) to all external links but it's probably going to be spaghetti code.
4. It's actually a billion times worse. It is the 44th most transcluded page — 398 pages uses it. I suspect it's because {{Expand}}, {{Delete}} AND {{Collapse}} directly uses it to make the user edit the page (which is a external link as well). So it'd break more templates/pages.

I'm not 100% sure if that's what we want, although you could say, "for the greater good", so it might be a compromise.

BrilliantGamer6 didn't actually mean to ping you. The system pinged you anyway because in their post, your userpage was linked, which is how the system determines whether an editor should be pinged or not. That's a "for now" at least.
