I noticed you have a sidebar on the left of your talk page. How do you create one?
Ian-StewartProfile | Talk | Contribs 21:21, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
I haven't answered this question yet because I saw it a while after you posted, but if you still need it answered, feel free to just look at the code of my sidebar. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 21:57, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
Please keep Test Wiki business on the Test Wiki - and especially don't post on multiple people's talk pages on the same wiki... I've now responded to your question on my Test Wiki talk page. kenny2scratchTalkContribsDirectory 07:10, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
nooooo
You deleted two pages that had unpatrolled revisions... TenType (talk | contribs) 18:36, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Yep, I noticed that afterwards. Sorry :P bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 18:36, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
It's fine. I've notified Ken to run the patrolling script. TenType (talk | contribs) 18:38, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for patrolling so much; every time I get a chance to patrol, I barely see any unpatrolled revisions! TenType (talk | contribs) 21:08, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
I have added a post on kenny2scratch's talk page, please answer.
Hello, Bigpuppy! I have added a post on kenny2scratch's talk page, please answer.

I already answered your first post, did you post something else? If so, I don't see it bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 04:20, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have, though. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 04:20, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. You've been very helpful. My question was how does a person add a side bar at the bottom left-hand corner of their screen that gives links to other things they own like kenny2scratch has done on his page. Also, what are bots? I've looked through the tutorial you sent to me (which helped by the way ^_^) and there wasn't anything that told me what they did or any other info on them. Thanks! J_Coder26 (talk | contribs) 07:35, 17 May 2020 (UTC)J_Coder26
Welcome! A bot is (literally short for robot if I recall correctly) a script that does things on the wiki (or other places). On the wiki, they almost always have good intents, such as notifying people who edit too much on a single page. Outside of the wiki, not all of them do. Some are used for commercial spam, and some are used for far far worse purposes. Also, when replying, it's best to use colons to indent your message. The more colons, the further indented your message is. A lot of people will typically use different quantities to show what message they're replying to.
For the sidebar question, feel free to look at the code of my sidebar, and I'm sure Ken (Kenny2scratch) wouldn't mind if you looked at the code of his sidebar (however you may want to ask him to verify). Just click the "edit" button to see the code (but don't submit your edit). bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 14:57, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
Response.
I wanted to let you know that the edit to your response was an accident. Sorry. Also, I deleted the talk page comments there and put them here so that you would see them. J_Coder26 (talk | contribs) 21:12, 17 May 2020 (UTC)J_Coder26

My user page
When I went to look at the recent changes pages i saw my username was in red instead of blue what caused this to happen?
Hope you are safe
Cs947939 (talk | contribs) 18:01, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
First, you don't need to add your name when put the signature.
For the question, you should create a userpage by clicking the link if you don't want to see username as red. Also, creating a userpage has a lot of advantages like introduce yourself.
Note:
You don't need to put the signature in the edit summary.
I saw but please, only when you comment something to talk pages, use the signature so people can understand the edits. ahmetlii TalkContributionsDirectory 19:44, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

How did you create your sandbox?
Hi bigpuppy! I was wondering how you were able to add the amount of edits a user has done to your sandbox. Since it is a special page, I can't press the edit button, and without pressing the edit button, I can't see the code. I would appreciate if you would tell me here, so that I get notified when you reply! Thanks! J_Coder26 (talk | contribs) 16:43, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
Looks like Ahmetlii answered your question. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 20:17, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi. I tried editing my user page by adding color and a sidebar. It mostly worked except now I have a few problems.1) I don’t know how to upload a picture of my logo to my user page (And yes, I did look at the article on how to do it but still can’t seem to make it work) 2) Since my sidebar is in the center of my userpage, it made the rest of the text on my userpage shift to the center too. If you could please help me that would be great. Also, I used you code for the sidebar so I will find a place to credit you. J_Coder26 (talk | contribs) 02:03, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
Hello, J_Coder26. Here are the answers to your questions:
You need to upload your logo to the Scratch Wiki. To do this, follow the instructions at Special:Upload (is that the page you looked at?). Then reference the file with .
It looks like you used my header, not my sidebar. To fix your problem, you need to add </center> to the end of the header's code. Alternatively, copy the code from User:Bigpuppy/User:J Coder26/Navigation Fixed (it's your header's code, but with the closing center tag). That should fix it.
Feel free to ask me if you have any further questions. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 02:15, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for the help. Please look at my comment here J_Coder26 (talk | contribs) 04:58, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
Hello, Jaywing321! Welcome to the Scratch Wiki! You might consider checking out my New Wikian Tips. Also, please remove one of the headers that you added — adding two messes up the table of contents on my talk page. Thanks bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 20:08, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
How do you do the key presses??
Hello Bigpuppy again - you most likely remember me. Or not. Idk. So I was wondering how to do key presses in the Wiki - as in the graphic looking like a key. Can you tell me how to do that, or which template that is. Thanks!
Mohie (talk | contribs) 16:38, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
Hello! You can use the kp template; for example, enter makes ↵ Enter. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 17:18, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
A userspace article of mine you deleted (by my request) was only created 4 minutes before that! Speaking about articles being deleted, is it possible on this wiki to find the shortest amount of time between an article being created and deleted? Jammum (💬 Talk - ✍️ Contribs) 15:55, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
I'm really not sure. The only way I can think of is to manually look through the deletion log or run through it with an automated script. You could try asking Ken, though. He'd probably know the answer to a question like this better than me. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 16:02, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
Hi, since yesterday I’ve been eager to edit wiki pages As being “helpful” but I noticed I got a message (I only noticed hours later I got it) explaining about that I was doing and I was confused on the “edit summery” part. What I don’t now is the fact I’m a new wiki user (as you may know obviously but I also have 0% experience with typing on wikis) Now I want to ask these questions (or statements?):
1)what is the purpose of edit summary?
2)I’m embarrassed that admins and experienced wiki can actually view the saved edits I do on the wiki. Is this also possible with cancelled and ones that are being typed?
3)should I do less wiki edits a day (like 10)?
4)I was editing my user page and tried to put a heading so I clicked help and copy pasted the text and when I clicked preview it showed a grey box With the text. Not text which looks like a title. How do I add a heading so that it may not show the “grey box.” Hani2018 (talk | contribs) 18:31, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
1)what is the purpose of edit summary? - Simple, it's for help the editors about the purpose of edit.
2)I’m embarrassed that admins and experienced wikians can actually view the saved edits I do on the wiki. Is this also possible with cancelled and ones that are being typed? - yes, they can rollback it, but if you didn't save your edit, they can't do anything.
3)should I do less wiki edits a day (like 10)? - This is your choice. If you don't want to edit, you won't do edit. There isn't a standard for edit.
4)I was editing my user page and tried to put a heading so I clicked help and copy pasted the text and when I clicked preview it showed a grey box With the text. Not text which looks like a title. How do I add a heading so that it may not show the “grey box.” - you can do it with tags, if you're interested in, you can find tutorials about CSS. Also, check the template's document. ahmetlii TalkContributionsDirectory 18:48, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, Ahmetlii, for answering Hani2018's questions. I just have some things to add on:
1) I don't really have anything to add onto Ahmetlii's answer on this one. However, edit summaries are generally very important, so if you have any further questions about them, feel free to ask.
2) Actually, anyone can view the edits that anyone saves, as long as they haven't been deleted by an admin. Just go to Special:Contributions/(someone's name) to see their edits. For example, go to Special:Contributions/bigpuppy to see my edits. As Ahmetlii said, no one can see your edits as you're typing them, but anyone can view all of your past edits (even reverted ones) by going into your contribution history. You can also view the history of any page by clicking the pencil icon at the top, then "History." Why don't you try it on this page? Finally, you can see all of the recent edits to the wiki at Special:RecentChanges (accessible through the "Recent Changes" link on the sidebar).
3) I'm sorry if I discouraged you from editing a lot with my message — that was not my intention! In fact, I'm really glad to see someone this enthusiastic about editing the wiki! As Ahmetlii said, it's your choice how many edits you make. If you see something that needs to be fixed, go ahead and fix it! If you make a mistake, someone else will fix it. That's the beauty of wikis.
4) It's because you put extra spaces before the headings — view User:Bigpuppy/User:Hani2018 Fixed, I fixed it for you. Just click "edit" and copy-and-paste the contents. (Keep in mind that you were also using level three headings, or headings with three equals signs on each side, and I changed it to the standard two.) bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 20:35, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
I love the image that you just uploaded and put on your userpage! Groko13 (talk | contribs) 01:53, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Question about CSS
Hi! I'm trying to figure out CSS on the wiki, so I was wondering if there's a way to change the color of links? No matter what I do they're blue. I apologize if I've done something wrong or messed anything up on your talk page with this message! It's my first time leaving a message for anyone. Honeybreeze (talk | contribs) 05:01, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
That can be used for an navigation box(because it will show its color when you're in same page.)
2.You can try something like this: <span style="color:purple">Bigpuppy</span>
That makes this: Bigpuppy It will show its color always.
You can change the color and link, you can merge the codes. Also, don't scare for ask! I hope you will do a lot of great edits. ahmetlii TalkContributionsDirectory 06:47, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
Try something like this: <span style="color:purple">Bigpuppy</span>
(Note for people looking through my discussion archives: it appears that I just copied Ahmetlii's code, but that's not the case. After I added my comment, Ahmetlii edited their code to match mine.) bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 19:33, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello! Customizing acceptance summaries is not allowed, as it sets them aside from others. Even if it was a very good account request, please use the same acceptance summary for everyone.
Also, thanks for handling a bunch of the account requests! TenType (talk | contribs) 01:00, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
Really? I've never heard of that rule. It wasn't that the request was specifically very good, anyway, it was just supposed to be for fun. Who/where did you hear that from? I've done it in the past, anyway, and have never gotten told off for it. If you check the normal user creation log, there are other summaries by other people that are not just "Welcome!", as well. I'd be happy to not do this in the future; I'm just not a fan of being told off for a rule I've never heard of. Thanks! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 01:16, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
Furthermore, when you're reviewing an account request, it says "When accepting, leave blank unless you want to add a reason/comment to the account creation log." Again, I'd be happy to refrain from doing this in the future — it's just that in the ~2 years I've been doing this, I've never heard of the rule. Please specify whether this is just something an admin just told you or if it's officially documented somewhere. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm coming at you (I'm not trying to), but again, I've never heard of this rule. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 01:23, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
Ken says its not allowed. TenType (talk | contribs) 01:26, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
No worries bigpuppy - I believe TenType may not have an insight into the history of the custom. You've done nothing wrong. I believe we may have discussed this in AdminChat once and not updated the documentation accordingly. Apologies. I'll make sure to add it . Thank you for all that you do! Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 01:38, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
Alright, thank you, MTBH. TenType, I'm sorry if I was kind of shooting the messenger — I hope you can understand why I was a bit surprised/upset (well, for the reasons I mentioned). I didn't realize something I just did for fun would cause such a ruckus (especially something relatively minor, in my opinion)! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 01:45, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
It's all good. Thank you for your contributions! TenType (talk | contribs) 01:50, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘Thank you for your contributions, as well! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 01:51, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
(Oh, and by the way, by saying "It wasn't that the request was specifically very good," I wasn't trying to imply that the request wasn't very good; I was simply saying that that's not why I left the custom acceptance summary, even if the request was very good. The content of the request was irrelevant in my deciding to use that acceptance summary; as I said, it was just for fun. No one has to reply to this note, I just wanted to clarify.) bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 04:29, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
Uhh...
It kind of feels like you're stalking me because the last few messages on my talkpage were from you. I know this is a bit of an odd question, but are you actively trying to stalk me? Garnetluvcookie (talk | contribs) 14:49, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
That's not really something you ask someone... No, of course I'm not stalking you! I patrol Recent Changes, and when I see something that I think I should leave a talk page message for, I leave it. In a way, I'm stalking everyone on the wiki. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 14:52, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

Well, we don't use CSS (in the normal way, at least). Here's an example of how you would style text:
If you'd like to add CSS for the whole wiki that only you can see, though, that is done using normal CSS, in your common.css file. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 19:44, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

Alright, I'll check it out soon. As for why I want it substituted, it's so that if the template changes over time, previous substitutions will stay the same. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 21:05, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
I find it interesting how on the Scratch Wiki we tend to have a bias towards transcluding talk page templates, whereas on Wikipedia it's the opposite (there tends to be a bias towards substituting them). At least, that's what I've observed from my time on both sites. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 21:14, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
...not that there aren't upsides and downsides to both, but on here almost everyone transcludes, for example, welcome templates, whereas a lot of templates are supposed to be substituted on Wikipedia. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 21:17, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello!
Hi there, sorry about yesterday and not signing it correctly, I hope you don't mind (I am totally new to this and am kind of learning as I go along). Today I am going to view other Wiki articles to give me an insight into how they are set out etc. I have also been brainstorming ideas for my first article as well. Keep doing what you do because you have helped me massively!
You can name any Scratchers — but they have to be relevant to the article, and you cannot advertise them (the page should also not be solely about them or their projects). You should also not link to their profile pages. For more information, visit S:NOSP. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 01:28, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
Hi Dude613, could you clarify what you mean? If you're wondering what usergroups you're part of, you can see that in your preferences, under "Basic information". bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 20:39, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

3) Many Wikians do, many Wikians don't. It's your choice. That said, if you choose to do it, you should read Scratch Wiki:Userspace#User talk pages first, since there's a limit of 5 personal welcome templates on each new user's talk page.
Feel free to ask me if you have any other questions! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 22:32, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
What are you confused about? I can probably answer your question, unless it's about a policy exception (as Groko13's was below). bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 23:42, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
Well I read the Userspace link, Now what do I do?
Goldenwaves929 (talk | contribs) 00:00, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
What do you mean? That's not something you have to act on right now — just a policy to follow. You could edit a page, you could do something off-wiki, it's really your choice bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 00:02, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
I was actually asking about question three. I would like to become one im just not sure how.
Goldenwaves929 (talk | contribs) 00:07, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Sorry for not understanding at first. However, what do you mean "become one"? If you'd like a welcome template, I've made an easy-to-use welcome template creation system over at User:Bigpuppy/PW. Or, you could look at the code of other wikians' welcome templates (such as mine), and learn how to make one that way. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 00:11, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
If you meant "does every Wikian accept account requests for new editors," then the answer to that would be no. Only Experienced Wikians and above can invite new contributors to join the wiki. Groko13 (talk | contribs) 00:13, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Oh, sorry, I must have thought you meant "welcome new members" by the third question. I guess Groko13's interpretation is more likely. Thanks, Groko13! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 00:15, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Thank You, Are you an Experienced Wikian, Bigpuppy? Goldenwaves929 (talk | contribs) 00:19, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
I edited my archive by substituting in people's welcome templates so that it would show the version that the template was when it was first posted. I am wondering though: is that a violation of S:USERSPACE? Groko13 (talk | contribs) 21:26, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
Hmmm, that's a hard one, as I can definitely see why you did it. I'd think yes, since substituting the template is changing how the author of the message meant the message. For example, substituting an e template in someone else's message is changing how they meant to use that e template (since they transcluded it rather than substituted it). Similarly, the people posting their welcome templates are transcluding them rather than substituting them purposefully (I'd think), and someone else changing that is changing how the author of the message meant to post the message.
However, that's just my thought process, and my word is in no way policy. It may be worth asking a bureaucrat. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 22:48, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
I'd say in the case of a) it being an archive and b) the change not affecting the ultimate rendered message and c) the messages being solely welcome templates, I'm fine with you substituting them for the purposes of faithfully reproducing the state of the talk page when it was archived. However, if any of those conditions aren't the case, I don't think that's okay - don't edit live posts, don't change what gets displayed, and don't change anything but welcome templates. kenny2scratchTalkContribsDirectory 01:55, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for your input! If anyone decides differently, I can change it though. It's not that big of a deal and the original templates are commented out. Groko13 (talk | contribs) 03:19, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
As per Foxlife37 — you're requesting that I delete User:Dude613 (your userpage). Is that the page that you actually want to delete? bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 22:50, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
No I was requesting someone to delete the sandbox I tried to create, but Bigpuppy took care of it. Thanks to you Both Dude613 (talk | contribs) 18:57, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Okay! You're welcome! And don't forget to indent using : at the start. That's so we can read it better.
So I tried adding to a post my editing it but it just took me to the code page and wouldn't let me type anything in. What do I do? Sorry for being such a nuisance.
Which page did you try to edit? It may have been protected. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 15:02, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Since it's been 10 days, I'm going to archive this with my other topics; if you still need help, feel free to create a new topic or bring this one back. Thanks! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 21:22, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Personal info in an article
In the Forum CP, Za-Chary posted here that there is personal info in this article (specifically the footnote) that the users name was changed because of personal info. Since the page is protected for EW+ (i think), can you remove that? Garnetluvcookie (talk | contribs) 14:28, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Done, and I asked Ken to delete the relevant revisions from the history of the page. Thanks for letting me know! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 15:04, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
I just want to know something...
Done
So, I'm gonna say this as politely as possible but I just want to know why you removed my link on the
What the community is remixing page. I hope you understand that I am not trying to be mean or anything by this comment but I just want to know so I can remember it in future. Filmlover12 (talk | contribs) 15:22, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Sure, I'm always happy to further explain one of my actions! Since this is a wiki all about Scratch, I don't think it's necessary to link to Scratch. However, could you clarify — were you trying to link to the Scratch website or the Scratch article? bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 15:27, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
OK! Thanks for the explanation. I was trying to link to the main Scratch Website, yes. Filmlover12 (talk | contribs) 15:33, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying. Yeah, since this is a wiki about Scratch, I don't think an external link to the Scratch website is necessary. (The link you added actually redirect to the Scratch Website article, anyway.) Thanks for your contributions to the wiki! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 15:34, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
So I'm trying to make a welcome page, and I can't figure out how to change the text color and font on one of these. I know how to change the background, and the text color inside, but the heading title, does it have to be black and a normal font? I use Comic Sans MS a lot, and my base style is either orange or aqua. So is there any code to make that black test look like this one? Test. Thanks in advance!
Hello! To change the font and color of the title, it seems you can just change the style of the text in the "title" parameter. For an example, see my sandbox. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 15:57, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Great! Thanks! I'm trying to get as good as I can because I'm taking a Scratch break, and I found that the Scratch Wiki calms me down. Foxlife37 (talk | contribs) 16:06, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Question #2
Sorry if I'm being a bit annoying, but I just want to clear things up! So you know your custom signature, right? I made one based off of yours, and I'm wondering, how do I easily make it into my official signature? Do I just type, (which looks like this, foxlife37|talk|contribs ) each time, or is there something I'm missing to add the time and date thing? Foxlife37 (talk | contribs) 17:14, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
No, you're not being annoying; I love questions!
What you'll need to do is add <br/> (not Real Signature) to "New signature:" in your preferences. Make sure "Treat signature as wikitext" is checked, then save your preferences. After you do that, you can just sign with ~~~~ and your signature (as well as the date) will be automatically inserted. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 17:19, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Great, thanks! I'll do that as soon as I get back on a computer, I just had to get off to eat lunch. Thanks! Foxlife37 (talk | contribs) 17:22, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Are you sure you added <br/> to your preferences and not <br/>? (Going off of your comment at #Sandbox.) bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 19:02, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure I did! I just have to do a bit of fiddling to get it right, but it works pretty well for my first try! foxlife37|talk|contribs 19:05, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Yes; but your signature is currently inserting all of the code for your signature rather than . This is generally not good, as it adds a lot of unnecessary formatting to talk page source code (see S:GOODSIG). What is in your "Signature" box in your preferences currently? bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 19:08, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
My signature in the box is <br/> right now. Should there be something else? To compact it, I mean. foxlife37|talk|contribs 21:01, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘Oh, now I see what the problem is. You need to change the contents of User:Foxlife37/Signature to and nothing else. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 21:07, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
I think I fixed it! Yup, I did! Thanks! Now for my next idea and plan! foxlife37|talk|contribs 21:14, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Hi! I am a curator of the wiki contributor studio, and I would like to become a manager, can you promote me? Goldenwaves929 (talk | contribs) 00:42, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Delete page
Bigpuppy: I am really sorry, I was tring to help edit one of the articles. But, as usaual I made a mistake and I created a page someone already created. Can you please delete this page ( https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Language_Tutorials/JavaScript/Number-Guessing_Game ) If the link I just wrote leads to the wrong thing, look at the most recent thing I created and delete it. Thanks Dude613 (talk | contribs) 20:14, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
P.S. What format am I supposed to write in for a new page?
P.P.S Do you know anything on the wiki which need editors?
Responses:
I deleted it, though I can't find where the original article is?
Generally, there should be an introduction explaining what the topic in question is, then separate sections explaining facets of the topic.
The whole wiki needs editors — just find something you can edit, and edit it!
Thanks for your contributions to the wiki and for being so enthusiastic about editing! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 20:22, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Hmm...
Should I put something about signing up for the Discussion Invitation System in my welcome message, or would that be advertising? Groko13 (talk | contribs) 23:05, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
I don't think it would be; after all, I think that DIS should eventually be moved to project space. It was never meant to stay in my userspace. Do you think it can be moved to project space? Perhaps I should ask Ken. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 23:11, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
I think that it could be moved to project space; there's a good number of people signed up. Groko13 (talk | contribs) 23:23, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your input! I asked Ken, but I'm not sure whether I need approval from a bureaucrat for something like this... it's good to be sure, though. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 23:26, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Documentation
I wasn't quite sure whether to put this on your or Kenny2Scratch's talk page, since he added it, but you are (were?) the creator of the project. Anyways, should we add documentation somewhere for this template, so that people know how to use it? Groko13 (talk | contribs) 03:27, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
In the "Check if your question is answered here before asking it!" box, the "I want a welcome template" question is posted twice. Just wanted to let you know Groko13 (talk | contribs) 16:42, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out! I've fixed it. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 16:51, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
Lol, sorry. I had to, though, since it happened to me once. I guess I half-ninja'd you, though, since I accidentally posted the timestamp instead of my signature the first time around. Also, thanks for patrolling so much today! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 00:49, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
Personally I think that you should add in the <!----text----!> (not sure what they're called :P) that the user is free to look at the page source. It's fine if you don't want to, I just didn't add it in because I'd be breaking userspace rules. Garnetluvcookie (talk | contribs) 18:48, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
They are called comments. Yes, I think this is a good idea, thanks for suggesting that I do this! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 17:51, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
Question!
Hi! Can we leave messages that are not for editing/adding too? (I'm new to this. )
PeppapigX10 (talk | contribs) 17:44, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
Hello! Welcome to the wiki, we're happy to have you here! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're talking about whether it's okay to leave messages that are not related to editing the wiki, right? If so, you are allowed to on user talk pages, but not article talk pages or the Community Portal. Thanks! I hope I can do well with these permissions! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 14:16, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
As an admin
Hi and congratulations on your promotion! I'm here to give you a sort-of introduction to the admin role.
Your new permissions
These are permissions you now have. A lot of them are irrelevant to this wiki because we don't use the features that entail them, but admins have them because those permissions are granted to sysops (underlying technical name for admins, in case you didn't know) by default. Instead I'll go over the ones I can think of off the top of my head that are useful, and/or the ones we actually use here.
protect: This is the most significant one here, I think. You can now protect pages by choosing "Protect" from the pencil menu. (No more asking someone to protect your archives - you are the someone!) Our protection levels are:
(none): All users can edit.
autoconfirmed: All users can edit, but they get a big banner saying "you are editing a protected page" that can be indimidating and might make them consider their edits more carefully.
wikian: All Wikians can edit. This is most users, but some are in fact restricted. Used on guidelines pages and their kin.
botplus: Bots, EWs, and admins can edit. Used on pages that should really be protected at EWplus but also need bots to update them regularly, like S:NEWS.
EWplus: Only EWs and admins can edit. This is the level we use most often - used for talk page and S:TT archives.
sysop: Only admins can edit. This is the level you have recently accessed - used for very high traffic pages such as the main page, its redirects, most of its transclusions, and some high-use templates. (Also apparently used for old talk page archives, probably before EWplus was introduced.) (The permission that allows you to edit this is editprotected.)
editinterface: You can now edit pages in the MediaWiki: namespace. These pages control the text in the actual wiki interface - for example, the text of the "save changes" button is controlled by MediaWiki:Savechanges. You can find out what pages control what text on a certain page by adding the query parameter uselang=qqx to the page URL.
abusefilter-*: You can now edit Special:AbuseFilters, which among other things include the bad word filter. Be very careful with these, because a wrong move can lock even admins out of doing something. Jvvg and I know the most about these.
undelete: You can now restore pages. This is seldom used but it has come in useful at times.
deleterevision, deletelogentry: You can now hide (and unhide) specific revisions of a page, without deleting the entire page. You can also do the same for Special:Log entries. This is mostly used for hiding personal information, but has sometimes been used for vandalism as well. (No need to ask someone to do this anymore!)
deletedhistory, deletedtext: You can now see all deleted revisions as if they were still there.
Basically, a lot fewer permissions are withheld from you now.
Permissions still withheld
Here's a few that remain reserved for bureaucrats, though. I mention these only because they actually are given to admins by default, but are not on this wiki.
block: Self-explanatory. Used for vandalism and occasionally for accidentally-created accounts.
checkuser, checkuser-log: View IP addresses and other information about an account. Used for alt detection.
editaccount: Set users' email addresses, passwords, and real names. This is what I have been using to handle account request troubles.
Invitation
Alright, I know I've asked you this before, but this time I have to be a little more demanding than before. Please join our Discord server - you're an admin now, and a lot of our admin coordination (including the discussion that got you promoted) happens there. You'll miss out on a lot of things (many of which would probably need your opinion) if you're not there. I've left my details in a deleted page so that only admins (including you now!) can see it. Send me a friend request, and I'll DM you an invite link.
Conclusion
Congratulations on your promotion! You have been the most consistently good editor I've ever seen, and I hope that this will let you do even better. Wiki on! kenny2scratchTalkContribsDirectory 11:32, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
I started writing my own article based on the website https://scratchstats.com/, but I cannot seem to find it, because when I type up the title of it ('Scratch Stats'), it keeps on directing to a different page... I think I need help to rename it.... but I still need ot find it. Do you think you can help with this?
Inventortolu (talk | contribs) 12:52, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
As per Jammum. Unfortunately, ScratchStats.com is user-generated content. Thanks for wanting to improve the wiki, though! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 14:17, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
Oh... Shame. I'll have to find something else to write about, then! Thank You anyways! Inventortolu (talk | contribs) 13:05, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
Userpage needs updating
Since you became an admin (Congrats!), you haven't updated your user page to show that. "I'm an Experienced Wikian here, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!" should be "I'm an admin here, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!". (Also, I know my custom sig is a bit lower than usual. I'm fixing it once I submit. Or it's not )
Bigpuppy is still an Experienced Wikian, so the statement is still true. Bigpuppy became an admin, but also he is still an EW - because of the elections. ahmetlii TalkContributionsDirectory 12:49, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Updated — Ahmetlii is correct that I am still an EW, but there were still some things that needed to be updated. Thank you for the suggestion and congratulations! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 03:19, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
Wiki servers are really slow
Is there any real reason for this? Pages on the wiki take 30 seconds or more to load.
I thought that was just me! Recently, each page has been taking at least 15 seconds to load for me, but other websites (including Scratch) are fine. Groko13 (talk | contribs) 23:51, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
This is partially caused by a change made to server configuration and the German server provider. Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 23:58, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Yes, it's so slow because of the files on the server and server's internet speed. Also, the speed can change because of client's internet speed and geographic position. ahmetlii TalkContributionsDirectory 07:42, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Not necessarily, I live in the UK, however, while geographically, I'm quite close to German, server speed can be unreliable. ContourLines [ Talk ~ Contributions ~ Directory ] 08:06, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
Makey Makey
Hello -
It has come to my attention that for some reason, there are no tutorials on how to use the Makey Makey extention, or any other hardware-related extention, for that matter. The only articles I could find on the subject are the block pages, as for every category, there must be.
This is strange... I haven't seen the Wiki fail me ever!
What should I do? Should I write some articles or something, create a new category... this seems big,
like the other programming language tutorials.
Mohie (talk | contribs) 20:20, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
You should probably post about this on the community portal. Then other's know about this issue... ContourLines [ Talk ~ Contributions ~ Directory ] 06:15, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
No instructions are necessary because of its simplicity -- the extension only has two blocks both of which detect key presses. Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 06:32, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
As per ContourLines; the Community Portal would probably be the best place for a question like this. In response to "I haven't seen the Wiki fail me ever!", this is a wiki, so it is ever-evolving. If it doesn't have content about a certain topic, that's just because the editors of the wiki haven't written about that topic yet. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 21:48, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Inserting images and editing image captions
I need help figuring out how to insert images and edit image captions. Do you have any tips? Thanks! ButterySaltedPopcorn (talk | contribs) 14:18, 15 August 2020 (UTC)ButterySaltedPopcorn
This is a caption. After you've uploaded a file at Special:Upload, you can insert it into a page with . However, most pages will have them as thumb images; you can make those with . For example, would make the image you see to the right.
You can edit the caption of an image by going into the page's source code and editing it in the code for the image. For more information about uploading images and adding them to pages, see Special:Upload. Feel free to ask me if you have any further questions. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 16:13, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
I have a question...
I was wondering how you add the "leave me a message" on your userpage? And how do you add a table of contents? Thanks!
Mtech22 (talk | contribs) 21:39, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
Hello!
This is the code for the inputbox, you'd need to replace my username with yours:
<inputbox>
type=comment
default=User talk:bigpuppy
hidden=no
buttonlabel=Leave me a message!
</inputbox>
I'm not sure where I originally got that code, but in general to make buttons like that, you use <inputbox> tags.
Table of contents boxes should be added automatically at 4 topics (I believe), but you can make one appear earlier with __FORCETOC__ and move it around with __TOC__. Feel free to ask me if you have any further questions. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 13:58, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

Ok, got it! I hadn't realised that it's not allowed to create pages about Scratch mods. (By the way, is there a way of replying to other people's posts?) Qucchia (talk | contribs) 14:32, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding! Yes, you can reply to someone's post by adding another level of indentation below their post. For example, I added one colon at the beginning of my post for one level of indentation. After around six levels of indentation, we do an outdent. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 14:35, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
Updating Images
If there is an image that is from 2.0, is it alright for me to update it to a similar image from 3.0? Illusion705 (talk | contribs) 16:41, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
Yes, unless it is specifically meant to show the 2.0 version. Also, if the category is Category:Scratch 2.0 Program Images or something else with "2.0" in it, make sure to update it to the 3.0 equivalent (so in this case, Category:Scratch 3.0 Program Images) if there is one. Check out the help pages if you haven't yet. They explain a lot of stuff on the wiki.
Use the sandbox to test out formatting and other stuff. The public sandbox gets cleared automatically every few hours by a bot. If you'd like your own sandbox that won't get cleared automatically, you can create one by going here.
You reply to others by clicking the pencil icon in the top-right of the page, then clicking "edit." After that find the person you'd like to reply to, add the right number of :'s - the first person doesn't add any, the second person adds one, third adds two, fourth adds three, and so on. Then you type what you'd like to say and sign it with ~~~~. You click save page and there you go! Here is an example conversation for you that is fake:

If you're looking for pages to edit, I recommend random page. You can find it on the navigation bar (to the left) of the wiki. You can also look in the category "Pages to Improve"; it has multiple sub-categories with pages that need to be changed.
The box below where it says "summary" when you make an edit is for your edit summary. Put a short description of your edit here.
Please check "This is a minor edit" if your edit is minor when making an edit — this means things like just changing capitalization, removing a space, or another small edit like that.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! There's a list of Experienced Wikians (people that have been elected by the community to help lead it) here. There's a list of active users here. Of course, you can also ask me on my talk page or ask on the Community Portal.
Good luck, and have fun editing here!
These tips were written by Bigpuppy and transcluded from this page. The original version was written for Dressygirl, but now they are quite different. Thanks to jvvg and Kenny2scratch for helping me touch it up. I originally wrote the indenting instructions for Ski-, but I've changed them a lot for these tips.
Also, please enjoy being a new wikian :P
Look what i did.
Based entirely off yours.

I moved it and replied to the discussion on your talk page. Yes, instances of will need to be fixed. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 23:27, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
Actually, i didn't include the "template:" thingy so it still works :P
I created a new signature for myself on my sandbox, but how do I set it to be my signature? I tried to do it in preferences, but the code was too long. Is there any other way that I can do it? Illusion705 (talk | contribs) 00:45, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

Extra Page?
Bigpuppy: Are You there? Either way, Do we need the user page of Jammum (https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/User:Jammum
)? As it says under the picture roughly towards the top of the page "The Jammum account is roughly abandoned"
Dude613 (talk | contribs) 19:14, 23 August 2020 (UTC) Sunday, Augest 23, 2020 3:13 PM
Hi there! Thanks for your concern! However, I believe what Jammum is saying there is that the Jammum Scratch account is abandoned; not the Jammum Scratch Wiki account. They are currently active on Scratch with the account SausageMcSauce, but you can't change your username on the wiki so they have to use Jammum here.
Also, we do not delete userpages if their owners are inactive. Thank you again for your concern, however! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 19:20, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
How do I create a welcome template on my userspace? If I don't know how can I send a welcome template on time? How did you and Bigpuppy do it on time if you did't know I became a new user? Dude613 (talk | contribs) 18:49, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
To add on to what Ahmetlii said:
After you've created your welcome template in your userspace, you can transclude it onto pages. For example, you could create User:Dude613/Welcome and then transclude it with .
Although Ahmetlii was correct that you can't get notified when new user accounts are created, you can check the User Creation Log to see new user accounts. That log is also shown in Recent Changes.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 18:51, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
Page Deletion Discussion
If a page is in question as to whether it should be deleted or not, and no one has responded to the discussion except for the person who originally wanted it to be deleted in a while, can they close the discussion and give the page the deletion template? I thought you had to wait until there was discussion, but someone else thinks that they can do it if there isn't any discussion after a while. You can see the conversation here if you need more context: Talk:Shop (project). Illusion705talk|contribs 13:38, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
I've never heard of NotUseful discussions "expiring," no. As far as I'm aware, there should be consensus. If users want to speed up the process, they can use tools such as the Discussion Invitation System to get more opinions. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 15:36, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

It seems like the function suddenly started counting from 1 instead of 0 (not just on the Scratch Wiki either). Now it says the day is 238. Is this just me? (For reference, the current day is 279) Groko13 (talk | contribs) 00:25, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
I see it as 238 too. However, are you sure it's not just because the new UTC day started 25 minutes before you posted your message? bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 00:39, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
Wow, I feel really dumb now, haha (I was looking at the Recent Changes which uses local time) Groko13 (talk | contribs) 01:03, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
Hey bigpuppy! So Naleksuh seems to be making some edits and I want to know why s/he has no userpage. I also question some of the edits. One of the edits was for a talk page about the motor () position block, s/he redirected it to a nonexistent talk page.
HacksonJackson (talk | contribs) 18:59, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
The redirect was caused by some page moves, but shouldn't exist and has now been tagged for deletion. Creating a userpage is optional and not required, so I hope there is no problem by my not having one. Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 19:01, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
Camp (disambiguation)
A little while ago I created a disambiguation page for the word "Camp", but when you look up "Camp" it doesn't go straight to the page. How do I make it go to the disambiguation page instead of the search results page? Illusion705talk|contribs 19:30, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
It has been done - Camp had to redirect there. Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 19:50, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
I've been working on creating a page about Scratch Camp: Scratch The Musical for the last couple hours, and when I tried to save the page it said that there was an edit conflict and "#REDIRECT Scratch Camp: Scratch the Musical". Should I replace the text on that page with my code? Illusion705talk|contribs 22:00, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
Oof! I just spent a couple hours creating a page that was already created xD Well, thanks! I've added the things from the page I was going to create to the page Naleksuh created :) Illusion705talk|contribs 22:15, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

Never noticed this, but one of the links was not an interwiki link - see "Notable Creations" for what I'm talking about. The link to the Scratch profile is supposed to be users:-Jie-. I just noticed that . 4096bits | Talk | 893 Contribs 23:57, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
That's because the Flawed Article was created well before users: links were introduced; in fact, they were only introduced this May. However, I would agree that it would be a good idea to change it, thanks for pointing it out! I've left a message on the talk page of the Flawed Article about this. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 02:24, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

The title says it all, when I pressed the link it said: "Invalid confirmation code. The code may have expired.". Can this be because of IP addresses (again)? It can't be expired, it doesn't until October. Thanks!

Of course you're not, did I send some sort of message to you by accident? Sorry then! And it really was because of my IP address, I read the message from my tablet instead of my PC, so when I resent it I read the email on my PC and it worked! It wasn't because of my country, it was because of the different device, thanks for the help!
Thanks, it was because I used my tablet instead of my PC so the IP address was different, so I resent it and read it on my PC (which was the device I used to create my wiki account), thanks for the link!

Hi! According to the MediaWiki documentation, you can use the magic word REVISIONSIZE; for example, this page is 117867 bytes. The page I linked has helpful information about other magic words as well. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 04:50, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
Updating Image
I created a new version of https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/File:Create_a_cloud_variable.png to update it, but it looks like it might be protected because there isn't a button for me to upload a new version of it. Why is it protected? Could you unprotect it briefly so that I can update it and then you can protect it again (if you think it still needs to be protected)? Thanks Illusion705talk|contribs 23:13, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi there! It isn't actually protected; as it says on the file description page, it is "from a shared repository and may be used by other projects." These files are a bit confusing, but it needs to be updated here, on the test wiki: tw:File:Create a cloud variable.png However, most users here (including me, currently) don't have accounts on the test wiki, so I'm not sure how much benefit there is to having it only be able to be updated there. I think you may want to just create a new file and replace the mainspace use(s) of the old file with the new one. Does that sound good to you? bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 23:24, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Bigpuppy I think you should make the color of the word "Expand" on the archive section and the word "Collapse" on the Reminders section, darker. The color of the above mentioned words are too light.
I believe that bigpuppy's using the collapse top and collapse bottom templates. In order to change the color, you'd need to change the template which would change everywhere it is used. 12944qwertyTalkContribsScratch 20:29, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
I'm not actually using the collapse top and collapse bottom templates there; I'm using the mw-collapsible class in the tables. Dude613, the reason the contrast isn't good is because the default color of the top of tables changed with the MediaWiki upgrade. I'm not sure whether I would be able to change the color of the "Expand" and "Collapse" text, though I might be able to. Anyway, I would probably opt for changing the color of the top of the table (there's probably a way to do that) instead. I might do that eventually. Thank you for the suggestion! bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 00:01, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

A Few Questions
Hello Bigpuppy! I was wondering a couple of things. First of all, how can I put a line's spacing between the table of contents and the first message I received on my talk page here. I also was trying to edit something and all the black text on my talk page turned orange. Lastly, when I'm uploading a file, I get this message- "The action you are attempting was automatically blocked. Please read the message below for details on why.
You must enter a comment when uploading a new version of a file or editing a file page. You must also include a category when uploading new files."
I'm not sure what this means or how to "enter a comment". Thank you, I'm still grasping some knowledge on how to do things on the Wiki. J_Coder26 (talk | contribs) 03:48, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi! For the table of contents thing, just add a blank line between the line with __TOC__ and the line with the start of the talk page message.
As for the colored text, that's probably because you have an unclosed instance of <span style="color:#ffbb00;font-family:Arial"> in the code of your header, and an unclosed instance of <span style="color:#f0bc02"> in the code of your talk page. You need to close these with </span>.
Finally, for the image uploading issue, you weren't able to upload the file because you either didn't enter anything in the "Summary" box while uploading, or you didn't include a file category (see Help:Categories for more information).
Feel free to ask me if you have any further questions. bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 18:23, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
Ok! Thank you! I was able to fix the 1st and 3rd issues, as for the 2nd one, I am still a bit confused. So, where does the </span> go in the code? I understand I need to close it but I tried doing <span style="color:#f0bc02"/span> and <span style="color:#f0bc02"></span> but neither of them worked. Could you rewrite the code I need to do, please? J_Coder26 (talk | contribs) 21:20, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
It looks like you already edited User:J Coder26/Navigation, so now you just need to insert a </span> tag where I inserted one in this image (see the location of the red arrow). bigpuppytalk▪︎contribs 01:20, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
