Welcome To The Scratch Wiki! Bigpuppy, Thanks for joining us :D

I recommend you read Bigpuppy's New Wikian Tips which you can find right there below!

New Wikian Tips

  • Check out the help pages if you haven't yet. They explain a lot of stuff on the wiki.
  • Use the sandbox to test out formatting and other stuff. The public sandbox gets cleared automatically every few hours by a bot. If you'd like your own sandbox that won't get cleared automatically, you can create one by going here.
  • You reply to others by clicking the pencil icon in the top-right of the page, then clicking "edit." After that find the person you'd like to reply to, add the right number of :'s - the first person doesn't add any, the second person adds one, third adds two, fourth adds three, and so on. Then you type what you'd like to say and sign it with ~~~~. You click save page and there you go! Here is an example conversation for you that is fake:
Hi everyone! There's a mistake in the "Scratch" section.

Oh...Yeah. One of the images needs to be changed.

  • If you have any big questions about the wiki or suggestions (or something else relating to the wiki that you want a lot of people to see), you can post in the Community Portal. This is the official main talk page for our wiki. You can also reply to posts there. :)
  • If you're looking for pages to edit, I recommend random page. You can find it on the navigation bar (to the left) of the wiki. You can also look in the category "Pages to Improve"; it has multiple sub-categories with pages that need to be changed.
  • The box below where it says "summary" when you make an edit is for your edit summary. Put a short description of your edit here.
  • Please check "This is a minor edit" if your edit is minor when making an edit — this means things like just changing capitalization, removing a space, or another small edit like that. :)
  • If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! There's a list of Experienced Wikians (people that have been elected by the community to help lead it) here. There's a list of active users here. Of course, you can also ask me on my talk page or ask on the Community Portal.

These tips were written by Bigpuppy and transcluded from this page. The original version was written for Dressygirl, but now they are quite different. Thanks to jvvg and Kenny2scratch for helping me touch it up. I originally wrote the indenting instructions for Ski-, but I've changed them a lot for these tips.

Editing Signature

I created a new signature for myself on my sandbox, but how do I set it to be my signature? I tried to do it in preferences, but the code was too long. Is there any other way that I can do it?

Extra Page?

Bigpuppy: Are You there?    Either way, Do we need the user page of Jammum (https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/User:Jammum
)? As it says  under the picture roughly towards the top of the page "The Jammum account is roughly abandoned"

Hi there! Thanks for your concern! However, I believe what Jammum is saying there is that the Jammum Scratch account is abandoned; not the Jammum Scratch Wiki account. They are currently active on Scratch with the account SausageMcSauce, but you can't change your username on the wiki so they have to use Jammum here.
Also, we do not delete userpages if their owners are inactive. Thank you again for your concern, however! :)

Welcome Template/ new wikian notification

How do I get a welcome template to send to new users? How Do I Notified when A new wikian comes into The wiki?

First, you can create your welcome template on your userspace.
Second, you can't know because it's not added by current Wiki software.

To add on to what Ahmetlii said:
  • After you've created your welcome template in your userspace, you can transclude it onto pages. For example, you could create User:Dude613/Welcome and then transclude it with {{User:Dude613/Welcome}}.
  • Although Ahmetlii was correct that you can't get notified when new user accounts are created, you can check the User Creation Log to see new user accounts. That log is also shown in Recent Changes.

Page Deletion Discussion

If a page is in question as to whether it should be deleted or not, and no one has responded to the discussion except for the person who originally wanted it to be deleted in a while, can they close the discussion and give the page the deletion template? I thought you had to wait until there was discussion, but someone else thinks that they can do it if there isn't any discussion after a while. You can see the conversation here if you need more context: Talk:Shop (project).

I've never heard of {{NotUseful}} discussions "expiring," no. As far as I'm aware, there should be consensus. If users want to speed up the process, they can use tools such as the Discussion Invitation System to get more opinions. :)

{{#time: z}}

It seems like the {{#time: z}} function suddenly started counting from 1 instead of 0 (not just on the Scratch Wiki either). Now it says the day is 238. Is this just me? (For reference, the current day is 329)

I am not Bigpuppy, but users can have multiple sandboxes in their userspace.

Jammum is correct — you are allowed to have multiple sandboxes in your userspace. For example, I have User:Bigpuppy/Sandbox, User:Bigpuppy/Sandbox 2, User:Bigpuppy/Sandbox 3, User:Bigpuppy/Sandbox 4, User:Bigpuppy/Sandbox 5, and User:Bigpuppy/Sandbox 6. You can create yours with the same naming convention (or any other naming convention of your choosing). :)

Naleksuh

Hey bigpuppy! So Naleksuh seems to be making some edits and I want to know why s/he has no userpage. I also question some of the edits. One of the edits was for a talk page about the motor () position block, s/he redirected it to a nonexistent talk page.

The redirect was caused by some page moves, but shouldn't exist and has now been tagged for deletion. Creating a userpage is optional and not required, so I hope there is no problem by my not having one.

A little while ago I created a disambiguation page for the word "Camp", but when you look up "Camp" it doesn't go straight to the page. How do I make it go to the disambiguation page instead of the search results page?

Scratch Camp: Scratch The Musical

I've been working on creating a page about Scratch Camp: Scratch The Musical for the last couple hours, and when I tried to save the page it said that there was an edit conflict and "#REDIRECT [[Scratch Camp: Scratch the Musical]]". Should I replace the text on that page with my code?

Where is exactly the sandbox?

Hi, I'm a new Wikian. I would like to know where exactly the sandbox is? There's two - the "Wiki Sandbox" at S:SAND and "Your Sandbox" at Special:MyPage/Sandbox. Which is the correct one?

Scratch_Wiki:Sandbox Is the public one. Special:MyPage/Sandbox is actually YOUR personal sandbox, so i guess both

Please use the "report" button on the problematic revision(s). If it's not related to a specific revision, an option is to click "report" on a problematic revision by the user and explain the situation in the report reason. Thanks for helping keep the Scratch Wiki a great place to contribute! :)

Please put your signature on the same indentation. You can do this by TEXT/REPLY ~~~~ The four tildes (~) are replaced with your signature upon edit. Try not to put them on a new line (keep them on the same line).

If someone could gather enough info on a specific topic, are they allowed to create their own Wiki Page or no?

You can make a wiki page at any time as long as if follows the guidelines. As time goes on, you'll find more information and be able to add more things.
BTW, when you talk on a talk page, sign your reply with a ~~~~. Always put these tildes after your text and on the same line.

Anyone noticed this?

Never noticed this, but one of the links was not an interwiki link - see "Notable Creations" for what I'm talking about. The link to the Scratch profile is supposed to be users:-Jie-. I just noticed that :P.

That's because the Flawed Article was created well before users: links were introduced; in fact, they were only introduced this May. However, I would agree that it would be a good idea to change it, thanks for pointing it out! I've left a message on the talk page of the Flawed Article about this. :)
