CSS
Is the CSS on the Wiki different to normal CSS in any way? I know a little CSS so I though I would decorate my userpage, but I didnt know if it was different on here. Thanks!
Bananaandchoc1 (talk | contribs) 19:39, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- Well, we don't use CSS (in the normal way, at least). Here's an example of how you would style text:
<span style="color:purple;font-family:Georgia">Hello</span>
- produces
- Hello
- If you'd like to add CSS for the whole wiki that only you can see, though, that is done using normal CSS, in your common.css file.

(by the way, is there a reason why you want the template substituted rather than transcluded?)
Groko13 (talk | contribs) 20:58, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- Alright, I'll check it out soon. As for why I want it substituted, it's so that if the template changes over time, previous substitutions will stay the same.
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 21:05, 29 June 2020 (UTC)- I find it interesting how on the Scratch Wiki we tend to have a bias towards transcluding talk page templates, whereas on Wikipedia it's the opposite (there tends to be a bias towards substituting them). At least, that's what I've observed from my time on both sites.

- Anything that is Scratch-related and follows the Scratch Wiki guidelines is acceptable. You should check the specific new page policy for the type of article you're creating, though.
- You can use the search bar at the top of the screen, or look through the categories of pages.
- Also, remember that you can also edit already existing articles and add to them.

Questions #2
1. What was the code for the image on your user page "Teaching the people the alternative spellings of built-in, one request at a time? 2. how did you make a button on your user page that says "Leave me a message? and 3. Does every wikian invite new members?
Goldenwaves929 (talk | contribs) 20:55, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- 1) This is the code for that:
[[File:Bigpuppy Builtin.png]]
However, if you'd like to add your own image to your userpage, you need to first upload it at Special:Upload. - 2) Here's the code for that button (keep in mind that to use it, you need to change "User talk:bigpuppy" to "User talk:Goldenwaves929":
<inputbox> type=comment default=User talk:bigpuppy hidden=no buttonlabel=Leave me a message! </inputbox>
- 3) Many Wikians do, many Wikians don't. It's your choice. That said, if you choose to do it, you should read Scratch Wiki:Userspace#User talk pages first, since there's a limit of 5 personal welcome templates on each new user's talk page.
- Feel free to ask me if you have any other questions!
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 22:32, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

Well I read the Userspace link, Now what do I do?
Goldenwaves929 (talk | contribs) 00:00, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- What do you mean? That's not something you have to act on right now — just a policy to follow. You could edit a page, you could do something off-wiki, it's really your choice
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 00:02, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
I was actually asking about question three. I would like to become one im just not sure how.
Goldenwaves929 (talk | contribs) 00:07, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. Sorry for not understanding at first. However, what do you mean "become one"? If you'd like a welcome template, I've made an easy-to-use welcome template creation system over at User:Bigpuppy/PW. Or, you could look at the code of other wikians' welcome templates (such as mine), and learn how to make one that way.
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 00:11, 15 July 2020 (UTC)- Also, please read Help:Welcome/4; specifically, the "Indenting" section.
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 00:12, 15 July 2020 (UTC)- If you meant "does every Wikian accept account requests for new editors," then the answer to that would be no. Only Experienced Wikians and above can invite new contributors to join the wiki.

Is this allowed?
I edited my archive by substituting in people's welcome templates so that it would show the version that the template was when it was first posted. I am wondering though: is that a violation of S:USERSPACE?
Groko13 (talk | contribs) 21:26, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hmmm, that's a hard one, as I can definitely see why you did it. I'd think yes, since substituting the template is changing how the author of the message meant the message. For example, substituting an {{e}} template in someone else's message is changing how they meant to use that {{e}} template (since they transcluded it rather than substituted it). Similarly, the people posting their welcome templates are transcluding them rather than substituting them purposefully (I'd think), and someone else changing that is changing how the author of the message meant to post the message.
- However, that's just my thought process, and my word is in no way policy. It may be worth asking a bureaucrat.
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 22:48, 14 July 2020 (UTC)- I'd say in the case of a) it being an archive and b) the change not affecting the ultimate rendered message and c) the messages being solely welcome templates, I'm fine with you substituting them for the purposes of faithfully reproducing the state of the talk page when it was archived. However, if any of those conditions aren't the case, I don't think that's okay - don't edit live posts, don't change what gets displayed, and don't change anything but welcome templates.

Question, or how to?
So I'm trying to make a welcome page, and I can't figure out how to change the text color and font on one of these. I know how to change the background, and the text color inside, but the heading title, does it have to be black and a normal font? Question #2
Sorry if I'm being a bit annoying, but I just want to clear things up! So you know your custom signature, right? I made one based off of yours, and I'm wondering, how do I easily make it into my official signature? Do I just type, {{User:Foxlife37/Real Signature}} (which looks like this, foxlife37 | talk | contribs ) each time, or is there something I'm missing to add the time and date thing?
Foxlife37 (talk | contribs) 17:14, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- No, you're not being annoying; I love questions!
- What you'll need to do is add
<br/>{{User:Foxlife37/Signature}}
(not Real Signature) to "New signature:" in your preferences. Make sure "Treat signature as wikitext" is checked, then save your preferences. After you do that, you can just sign with~~~~
and your signature (as well as the date) will be automatically inserted.

- I deleted it, though I can't find where the original article is?

Hmm...
Should I put something about signing up for the Discussion Invitation System in my welcome message, or would that be advertising?

- I don't think it would be; after all, I think that DIS should eventually be moved to project space. It was never meant to stay in my userspace. Do you think it can be moved to project space? Perhaps I should ask Ken.

Documentation
I wasn't quite sure whether to put this on your or Kenny2Scratch's talk page, since he added it, but you are (were?) the creator of the project. Anyways, should we add documentation somewhere for this template, so that people know how to use it?

- Yeah, that's a good idea. Thanks for mentioning that. Perhaps in one of the notes at Scratch Wiki:Discussion Invitation/List?

Typo, maybe?
In the "Check if your question is answered here before asking it!" box, the "I want a welcome template" question is posted twice. Just wanted to let you know
