Intellectual Precursors

The "intellectual precursors" section needs subsections on mesh networking (clearly related to the One Laptop Per Child mesh networking also from the Media Lab, but which came first?) and nestable sprites (an independent invention by Jens afaik, but with interesting parallels to the nestable line segments on the General Turtle Inc. 2500 Logo computer).

Title

The title "Build Your Own Blocks (BYOB) (Scratch Modification)" appears to be excessively long. Would anyone have a problem with moving it to "BYOB (Scratch Modification)"? Even the main BYOB website calls it BYOB.

There's a Wikipedia article called Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2: In Shocking 2-D, so to be honest this title isn't that long... Also, as Jonathanpb said, Build Your Own Blocks is the correct term, and we prefer to use the correct terminology on the wiki...

It does commonly mean that, yes. But I don't think it matters that much. I mean loads of words and abbreviations will have other meanings, which are often extremely inappropriate (not so much in this case, but "Scratch" has some inappropriate meanings). You can't really avoid it...

This is the official Scratch Wiki, and I believe it has similar rules to the main site. Posting inappropriate content that people of all ages could see is not a good idea, is against the rules, and would probably result in a ban.

Grr. This is why we're changing the name: because of a few people bending way over backward. "Beer" is not a four-letter word, despite having four letters. :) Nobody seems to have noticed that "BYOB" (in its pre-Jens meaning) doesn't mean "go get plastered"; it means "the host of this event is not providing alcohol, but won't kick you out if you bring some for yourself."

"A very strange block"?

I'm not sure that "strange" (and "odd" in the next entry) is quite how I'd choose to describe lambda. How about "powerful"? :)

Also, "ChoiceOrExpressionArgMorph in Squeak" (for the LIST block) doesn't fit the tone of the other block descriptions; it's kind of intimidating for what's really a very simple block!

Title

Something about having two parenthesis text in the title doesn't really settle with me :P. I think it's weird that there's the "(BYOB)" in the title when the article says in the first sentence, "Build Your Own Blocks — often referred to by its acronym, BYOB — is ..." Do you guys think that perhaps the "(BYOB)" should be removed from the title?

I think that was just because they started marketing to a wider audience. Like, the 2.0 prototype used to be on jiggler.media.mit.edu before moving to alpha.scratch.mit.edu. The new one is more suited to a larger audience.

Yeah, our hypothetical schedule is beta in June, release in (late) August, but we're going to make it only in the sense that something has to be ready for classes starting the last week of Aug. It probably won't have the OOP stuff by then, so there will be a 4.1 before we're back to 3.1 features.

Well, it certainly relates to Scratch in my opinion. Blocks, based off of Scratch, I believe that the creators of snap have Scratch accounts, etc etc. Not exactly the wiki's best and most up-to-date article though, it just needs revision.
