3.0 books, Yay!
I have compiled a list of 20 scratch 3.0 books (I still need to filter through these). What site is best to link to? Are we trying to unify the sites we are linking to on these books? RobotChickens (talk | contribs) 21:16, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
- As long as the books are available on a reliable shopping site it should be fine, the previous entries mostly link to amazon/nostarch’s websites. If you’re short on time to format the titles in I’d suggest quoting them here instead; the article’s outdated template should have been removed by now.

3.0 Books
Now that we have a new version of Scratch(3.0), we need to add more books, or is it intended to leave it here? Filmlover12 Talk Contribs Scratch 09:21, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- There should be a 3.0 section, but no one has added any new books yet.

- Thanks for the clarification. I'm pretty sure I have a book that teaches Scratch 3.0, but it includes information about python as well. I'm not sure whether this should be added, as I believe it covers more about python than Scratch. What's your opinion?
Filmlover12 Talk Contribs Scratch 14:47, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- I think this should be added becuase it makes the page seem more updated and could encourage other editors to add more books.

Fair Use
The book covers are under fair use, so they should be removed. Millie S (talk|961 contribs|directory) 23:35, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

- Looks like a false alert. Accessed it and there was no warning.

2.0 book?
There was another book, it was called Programming With Scratch 2.0 Krett12 (talk | contribs) 15:17, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Potentially removing this page
This page is useful, but is not directly related to the Scratch website.
I personally think it should be taken down.

- There's also the question of fair use. Even if this page were to be helpful the book covers would have to be removed as it violates German copyright law.

- All the previous points are true. In addition to this, I feel like this is more like an advertisement to the books (even if not written as such), which is not what the wiki is about.

- I think this is a very helpful resource for kids looking for good books to learn the language from. I do see your point though. Possibly we could condense this down to a top 3 of confirmed up-to-date and reliable books, and remind people to check their local library for Scratch Books.

- If we decide to keep this page, I think it'd be a good idea to list the ISBN of the books rather than providing a vendor (like Amazon). Three reasons for this are that some of the websites look pretty sketchy, some of them have been changed and don't list the books anymore, and it looks like we are officially endorsing the vendor websites.

- Additionally, I've opened my own sandbox to try to test what the article could look like without the book covers. The page is located under here and is open, so you are free to make edits.

- Could we link to Google Books pages? here is an example of one of these links! It shows lots of helpful information and most importantly, all sellers that currently sell the book (not just one). Not to mention they actually look clean as opposed to those sketchy seller pages.

- I think that this is a good idea, will try to get the links replaced sometime (probably not going to happen soon though).
Gdxfor (talk | contribs) 02:52, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- Will all of the cover images have to be removed as part of this process?
