Now that Scratch is about to have a button added that says "Add an Extension" (in More Blocks), Scratch Team is planning to change this page to be limited to that definition of an extension -- a hardware or web extension to Scratch.

Oh, yay. Perhaps the existing definition could be renamed Scratch Tools or something? (Don't forget to sign with ~~~~.)

Hi all - I moved all the stuff over from the extension protocol page to here, since I think it's more clear (and there's not really anything that's an official protocol.) Also moved things about remote sensor protocol, etc., since that wasn't really an extension per se. Images don't look so great - maybe folks can help with the layout a bit? Thanks!

Sure, I'll be part of that. BTW, new stuff goes at the bottom.

"with external hardware"?

On the first sentence, they state "Scratch Extensions make it possible to connect Scratch projects with external hardware". Pen blocks are an extension, but they aren't hardware?

It actually also says "online data sources", but I added something about "advanced functionality" to be clear. Yes Done

Move

"Scratch Extension" is a longer name that really doesn't need "Scratch" in it, because everything in the wiki is about Scratch and there is no page titled Extension that is about something else. We could move this to Extension for easier access and editing.

Hmm, but we have Scratch 3.0 instead of 3.0. So not entirely sure that I agree with this.
Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 20:36, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
The word scratch doesn't make the topic clearer - Scratch 3.0 is often referred to with the "Scratch", but extension is not, in a similar way to Discussion Forums. The user already knows it is about Scratch.

Scratch lab

Should I add a section about scratch lab
JPANDD (talk | contribs) 14:09, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
I don't think so because to access Scratch Lab you have to go to another website (specifically [1] and you can't access it from the main Scratch editor. Plus, I'd refer you to Scratch Lab

Oh I did not know there was already a scratch lab page so nevermind

About the 'Distributing extensions' section

I am not sure if it follows the scratch wiki editing guidelines and it seems to be talking about something that may happen
Kleemiya_the_furball (talk | contribs) 18:23, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

@Kleemiya the furball — Future features/events should be referenced properly to avoid speculation, so judging by the amount of {{citation needed}}, either (a) references need to be found or (b) we just have to delete the section. In fact, I've added a few templates to the section.
Purin2022 | 💬Talk | 📝Contribs | 🐱Scratch 19:09, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
Well I see now, thanks
Kleemiya_the_furball (talk | contribs) 20:32, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
The section is outdated. It's mostly copied from this document, which talks about HTTP extensions, an old extension system for Scratch 2.0 that became obsolete when ScratchX was released.
Maximouse (talk | contribs) 09:33, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
Oh that section's bad. It's weaseling and speculating beyond belief. However, ST have acknowledged and stickied a guide to Unsandboxed Turbowarp Extensions in the forums. Does that mean it's official? No. Is it better than this? Maybe. Or we plan B and destroy it
Co0lcr34t10ns (talk | contribs) 11:42, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
The section should be deleted. Clearly, no one has any sources for the information it provides, making it somewhat misinformantive and, on top of that, as Maximouse said, It's mostlie copied from very outdated information.
Myscript423 (talk | contribs) 17:08, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
I'm working on a complete revision of the section to make it more useful rather than deleting it. In theory, the section is still somewhat of a good idea, especially with the link to the tutorial on how to make extensions, but, as suggested by the discussion here, wasn't properly put executed.
