Hi! I was wondering if this article is useful. It's about a very uncommon type of project on Scratch, so I'm not sure if it's relevant enough. It's also vague, and the wording doesn't match wiki standards, but that could be fixed through editing. Do you think it should be deleted? Thanks

This is somewhat ironic as you created this page.
Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 18:34, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
Yep, I did. I created this page when I first started the Scratch Wiki, and I regret the action. Not only did I choose an irrelevant topic, but I did a horrible job writing it. It has since been improved by many editors, including yourself. The fact that I created the article when I knew less about the Scratch Wiki doesn't change the fact that it's irrelevant and obscure. To be honest, after nearly a year, I'm surprised this article lasted this long without being deleted. Irony aside, do you agree or disagree that this page should be deleted?

Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

The best place for all knowledge about Scratch is here in the Scratch [W]iki.

I also agree this should be deleted.

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Let me emphisize this:

The best place for all knowledge about Scratch is here in the Scratch [W]iki.

Thanks for the feedback @lovecodeabc! That's a great point. I just feel like, while it has been improved by many editors, this article is too vague, and the wording doesn't match Scratch Wiki guidelines (which, as naleksuh pointed out, is my own fault). I did a pretty horrible job writing it. It would take a lot of editing to improve this enough to match Scratch Wiki standards, and I just wasn't sure if it was worth it considering how obscure the topic is. I doubt many people would find this article useful to improve their knowledge of Scratch. Maybe an article about Color Detection could be made, which is the main script behind the camera. It's used in lots of projects, not just cameras. A small subsection could be added in the article explaining how to turn it into a camera. Whether merged with another topic or completely deleted, I don't think it's notable enough to have it's own page.
Only include material that would be considered notable'

Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 02:12, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

Now that it's a page, I think it's best to maintain it, rather than delete it. If that means users have to go back and edit it a bit more, so be it.
Super_Scratch_Bros20 (talk | contribs) 12:54, Dec 16 2020
What about creating an article about for color detection, and merging this into it?
Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 14:05, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
It is notable.
Lovecodeabc Links: talk page | scratch profile | contributions 14:22, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
Even if it's notable, wouldn't color detection be more notable? It could include a section on cameras. Since it's the main script behind cameras, and it's more common and useful, wouldn't it work better if that article was created and this was merged into it?
Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 15:10, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
I say either rename and revamp this into a page called Color Detection (then redirect Camera to a section on it) or keep this original page.

Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 17:33, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
So, there's two people for keeping and improving it, one person for deleting it, and two people (including me) for renaming it, improving it, and making it more generic. I guess I should wait for more opinions?
Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 23:05, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I cannot choose between keeping or renaming, but I would vote against deletion. I wish not for documentation of this type of project to be removed from the Wiki because it could, with improvement, be helpful for people who are first learning to make cameras. Two years ago next Thursday when I made my first camera, I tried to use the video motion on this sprite block, and a Wiki tutorial could have taught me how to detect color.
Mlcreater (talk | contribs) 01:48, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

I am going to switch to renaming it and improving it for reasons that many others have stated above.

The full quote:
The relevance of knowledge in a wiki is not dependent on the number of people using that knowledge, but on the liability of the knowledge and the use for the one who could need it - even if it was only one person. Everybody who needs it should find this knowledge and in this case that's surely much more than just one scratcher because the question "[How to make a scratch camera?]" is asked many times [in Help with Scripts]. So - as long as only one Scratcher could need it - The best place for all knowledge about Scratch is here in the Scratch wiki.[sic]

Yeah, that's a good point, but like I said above, I'm no longer supporting completely deleting the page, but instead, turning it into a more generic article, and adding the camera information as a subsection.
Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 02:13, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
Anymore opinions on this?

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Lovecodeabc, please elaborate!

I am against deletion because I can see there being more content - especially scripts showing exactly how to implement camera-based projects. This is also well within notability guidelines, especially because of the challenge that required exclusively using the camera.

However, I don't think this is the right title for it. I propose the following:

  1. Merge the content of Video Sensing into Video Sensing Extension (since the former is a glorified version of the latter)
  2. Move the content here to Video Sensing and expand it with specific tutorials
  3. Redirect this title to Video Sensing

This makes the most sense to me. Thoughts?

WDYM by please elaborate. That aside, I don't think a section on cameras in the middle of the Video Sensing article would be really appropriate.

@kenny2scratch, that seems like a good idea. I support the seccond idea you said.
@lovecodeabc, I think kenny2scratch is asking you to say what you think instead of just repeating a quote.
Leahcimto scratch profile picture.png leahcimto talkcontribsprofile 18:20, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
So, should I make this article more generic, or improve it in it's current form?
Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 02:56, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Now that I think about it, if someone made one with high enough resolution, couldn't it be a privacy concern?
Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 20:02, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
I don't think so; a user would have literal minutes to notice and stop their camera or the project, and the Touching Color ()? block can't detect through other sprites in the case that someone tried to cover up a camera.
Mlcreater (talk | contribs) 21:07, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I guess so, but I wasn't talking about it being done without the user's knowledge. The user might not fully understand the privacy concerns, especially if it has a Save Code.
Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 20:06, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello I am new to wiki editing. So can someone change the title since this topic focuses on color detection rather then camera? Thanks!

Scienceexplorer1 (talk | contribs) 16:26, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

We never really reached a decision, so we probably need to discuss it more
