Wiki Blocks

What happened to them? Are they going to be updated with blob's 2.0 blocks?
OrcaCat (talk | contribs) 05:42, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

I've spoken to the ST about it a little, but I think they're a bit busy releasing Scratch 2.0 itself :P In the meantime, you can paste the following code into your browser's JS console if you want to see what they look like:

mw.loader.load('', 'text/css'); $.getScript("", function() { scratchblocks2.parse(); }); Btw, I believe the convention is to add a new topic at the bottom of the talk page, not the top (I think the "Add topic" button does that for you).
Blob8108 (talk | contribs) 11:51, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

I'm getting mixed messages. Mathfreak told me to put them at the top. LOL. And thanks for the JS :) EDIT: Ooh, they're beautiful :)
OrcaCat (talk | contribs) 04:41, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
They do indeed go at the bottom.
veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 08:10, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Bog darn. But thanks.
OrcaCat (talk | contribs) 03:45, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! :D

Shouldn't this page be protected, because JSO and the rest of the admins are the only ones with the ability to change the syntax?
SJRCS_011 (talk | contribs) 01:29, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Not necessarily. Although JSO is the only one who can edit the syntax, the actual content of the article about the plugin can still be edited and improved by anyone. As a comparison, anybody can edit an article about a Scratch modification, even though they may not be one of the creators of it. ;)

A few days back, Scimonster combined the Block Plugin Syntax and Block Plugin articles into one. However I think that this should be undone in one form or another, because as shown, the Syntax sections are becoming very large. Perhaps in this article we could have a very simple paragraph with a "cause and effect" table (ex. () makes a number input, [] makes a textbox, etc.) However we would also have a link saying "Main Article: Block Plugin/Syntax, with the full "manual." What do you think?
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 20:10, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

I was thinking about doing that too!!
Bsteward (talk | contribs) 20:12, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Sure. XD

Closing Automatically

Most of you have probably noticed that C blocks are automatically closed if they are the last one in a script. However, I think that we should still try to keep the "end" for all C blocks for our articles, that way if anybody wants to edit the scripts, it's much more convenient. It's a bit weird have six repeat blocks but only five ends, if you ask me.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 22:20, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

If forever blocks have an end on the they get a puzzle piece stub, which is incorrect. Either JSO needs to update the plug-in to not put these on forever block, or end should not be used with forever blocks.
Bsteward (talk | contribs) 22:24, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, I didn't know that. That should be added to the bug list I suppose.

Table Issues

Does anybody know how to enlarge the width of the example table? The blocks look squished and you can't even see the comment block example.
Technoboy10 (talk | contribs) 14:52, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

It can't really get any wider because it'll get cut off by the wiki style. :/
And even if you try moving the blocks over with HTML, they aren't fixed.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:59, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Should I just make that entry with the comment block have only a comment block?
Technoboy10 (talk | contribs) 15:09, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
It glitches if you try and do that :/
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 15:14, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
True, but as it is, you can't even see the comment.
Technoboy10 (talk | contribs) 15:52, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Free-floating comments render as a badly rendered obsolete block linked to the comment:
//This is a comment.
So I linked it to a block.

I think the Block Plugin should be rewritten in Flash on Scratch Day 2012. That's when Scratch 2.0 should be released. Besides, the next version will be in Flash, too. This will probably fix many of the plugin's current bugs. For example there's no way to tell Boolean blocks from Reporter blocks:

when gf clicked
wait until <mouse down?>
set [stopwatch v] to (timer)
repeat until <(timer) = ((stopwatch) + (3))>
say (timer)
say []

But this is what the script looks like in Scratch 1.4:

Example script.gif

Of course, that is a file I just uploaded to the wiki.

This is what the Loud? block looks like in the plugin vs. the program:

But this is the Timer block in the plugin and the program:

Comparing both blocks' shapes in the plugin:

And in the program:

Loud?.png Timer.png

As I said, they're indistinguishable in the plugin just by their shape. That could be fixed when Scratch 2.0 is released.
3sal2 (talk | contribs) 21:28, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

I think creating boolean shapes for the block plugin is a bit complicated, not because JSO was slacking or something :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 22:57, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
I suggested using images for that, but JSO never replied. :S
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:30, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Why write it in flash? I personally think that if something can be written in JavaScript, or HTML5, it shouldn't be written in flash. Then it can run in any modern browser without having to take time to load the flash plugin (it would also work on a devices that do not have/support flash).
Bsteward (talk | contribs) 11:45, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Maybe a JS Block Plugin for iOS or devices without Flash and a Flash one for devices with Flash?
3sal2 (talk | contribs) 22:20, 16 July 2012 (UTC) Rewrite it on 1 Aug 2012.
3sal2 (talk | contribs) 22:22, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

This article needs some citation. I don't exactly know where to find any sources.

Blob8108's plugin

It sounds like we will be using it. If we do, how will that be incorporated into this article? A link to testing ground? Would Blob8108 have his name in the article as the creator? Link (so we don't forget it).
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 22:25, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Should we split this article out into Block Plugin (1.4) and Scratchblocks2 (2.0)?
Blob8108 (talk | contribs) 08:33, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Examples rendered with new plugin

The example scratch blocks on this page are rendered with the new plugin instead of the 1.4 Block Plugin
Comp500 (talk | contribs) 09:33, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

It doesn't really matter.
