Proposed Template
I'm actually thinking of a template for the rare case of factually inaccurate or possibly factually inaccurate statements: {{fact}}. Its design was inspired by [citation needed]. It would work like this when put in a statement:
- The Scratch Cat is purple.[factually inaccurate?]
except that it would show as blue and not bolded.
Clicking the link would lead to the article's talk page. A new section titled "Factually inaccurate" concerning the statement should be created first.
3sal2 (talk | contribs) 01:26, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
Also I'm proposing a redirect to [citation needed]: {{cn}}. I know it was deleted, but it's easier and quicker than just writing out "citation needed".
3sal2 (talk | contribs) 01:28, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Good idea(s)! Factually incorrect errors are either
- blatant: so the editor can change the inaccurate fact immediately, or
- obscure: users can place template to page, and an admin can confirm fact (or change it)
- therefore, the template is needed. the cn template is ok, i am neutral to undeleting it! just wait for other responses and see their reactions ! :) (however, the template name needs to be discussed also!)
- ps:templates to redirects are not recommended. Therefore I disagree. Thanks for understanding!
- KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 01:37, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, an user can uphold or deny a statement.
- I'm not totally opposed to a redirect like cn, but would wait for someone else. After all, usually we don't allow template redirects.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:09, 13 February 2014 (UTC)- redirects to emoticon templates?
- the link to the talk page really isn't needed, but it's a fairly good idea otherwise.
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 21:27, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
I'll do it now.

Who started the bots?
It seems like more and more people are making bots now! Who started the bot idea? Sorry I forgot!
KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 01:33, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- Well, the original one was bot807 by blob8108, though it never ended up doing anything. Then you created VoxBot, which inspired WikiMonitor. Now Mathfreak231 is trying to create a bot for other tasks. Also, there are only two active bots and one pending bureaucrat upgrading (ThisIsAnAccount by Mathfreak231). I personally think that we only really need one bot to check old articles for writing and formatting stuff (and whatever else might be like that) and one to check recent changes and notify users.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:21, 21 February 2014 (UTC) - I'm pretty sure there were a lot of bot discussions in the past, but blob was the one to actually create a bot account.
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 22:00, 21 February 2014 (UTC)- I wrote the API script to remove all the {{unreleased}} templates from all the pre-release Scratch 2.0-related articles. Later someone wanted some more tedious automatable tasks done, so I made the bot account in order to do it properly (not spam Recent Changes). We never used it in the end -- I forget what we originally wanted it for. :P

Template:Blocked_user
Can an admin please edit Template:Blocked_user and delete the example uses and replace it with documentation with {{/doc}}? Thanks!

- Done. Next time maybe ask on the page's talk page?

Proposed criteria for not allowing certain holiday themes
Here are some proposed criteria for not allowing certain holiday themes:
Criteria
H1: Religious holidays
Examples: Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Hanukkah, Valentine's Day
Description: This criterion is for holidays celebrated for religious purposes, are generally associated with a specific religion, and are not observed by other religions.
Reason: The Scratch Wiki has Scratchers of several religions. In countries like the United States, where MIT is located, it is considered wrong to promote a religion as it is considered an act of religious establishment.
H2: Holidays associated with a specific English-speaking country
Examples: Canada Day, Australia Day, Independence Day
Description: This is for any holiday associated with a specific English-speaking country or a small group of such countries that is never or almost never observed in other countries. For non-English-speaking countries, see H3 below.
Reason: Not every Scratcher on the wiki lives in the same country as other Wikians.
H3: Holidays celebrated in primarily non-English-speaking countries
Examples: Chinese New Year, Hungry Ghost Festival*, Carnival*, Day of the Dead*
Description: This one is for holidays mostly celebrated in a country or group of countries where English is not both official and widely spoken. For English-speaking countries, see H2 above.
Reason: This is the English-language Scratch Wiki, not the DACH-Scratch Wiki.
Notes
- These ones are also religious holidays. See H1 for details on religious holidays.
H4: Unofficial and nontraditional, minor or non-notable observances
Examples: All Caps Day, Big Cookie Wednesday, National Popcorn Day, most birthdays*
Description: A holiday or other observance meets criterion H4 when it is not a tradition or official observance, or when it is minor or non-notable.
Reason: It's obvious. Nobody would want to celebrate a minor holiday.
Notes
- This can also be an infringement on Scratchers' privacy.
H5: Fictional holidays
Examples: Whacking Day, Weasel Stomping Day, Chrismukkah*
Description: When a holiday meets this criterion, it is originally from a work of fiction. Often the holiday does not exist in real life.
Reason: This is real life. We are not fictional characters.
Notes
- This one is also an H4 violation.

The result was create. Please do not edit this section.
Support
It'll come to great use if it was made a scratch wiki page!
KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 00:28, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with most of these. National or religious holidays should not be celebrated on the wiki.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:04, 26 February 2014 (UTC) - I agree to pretty much all of these.
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 16:04, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
Oppose
Scratch Wikians should be able to decide wether a holiday is eligible or not through intuition.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 01:55, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- I think that some silly ones (such as Talk Like A Pirate Day) might be OK to celebrate. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:04, 26 February 2014 (UTC)- What do you mean by "celebrate"? Also, I'm actually against this. What holiday would you guys *allow*? Earth Day? Scratch is made up of many cultures. Instead of denying all of them, you should celebrate it. I'd love a 'Day of the Dead' or 'Valentine's Day' or 'Chinese New Year' theme.
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 22:59, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Overall Opinions
What?
blob8108 (talk | contribs) 13:30, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
I think this rules would be a nice addition, although I think they need slimmed down a bit. For example, I feel that rule #5 isn't needed because fictional holidays are also unofficial holidays. I also think Rules #2 and #3 can be combined to form a more overarching idea that a holiday must be celebrated by many/most countries. Past that, though, it looks good.
Also, to clarify about my comment under "Oppose", I was playing a bit of a polemicist (writer who argues against others) there to bring up a possible view point.

(to EWs and Admins) Please check for account requests frequently
Since the Wiki got put in the Scratch News feed, we've gotten a surge of account requests (like 7 so far just today, when we usually get 1-2 per day). If you are an EW or admin, please check the page Special:ConfirmAccounts whenever possible for new requests. If you are an EW who is unfamiliar with the process of accepting or denying requests, just use this checklist:
- Does the user meet the requirements outlined in S:CONTRIB?
- Do the request notes use proper spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and capitalization?
- Do the request notes specifically explain how the user would help? This means SPECIFIC EXAMPLES, not just very generic topics as outlined in the next item.
- Do the request notes say something besides helping New Scratchers, helping Scratch, applying knowledge, etc.?
If the user meets those conditions, then accept the request.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:08, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
- Scratch Wiki Explore a wide variety of articles on the Scratch Wiki, including advanced topics and tutorials. wow!! also, maybe to look closely at the request and see if he/she uses correct grammar, if it looks like they typed the request quickly, ect
- KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 04:52, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
- I like mixing up my comments on people's profiles about their request being rejected. I often lead with what I liked about their request, then tell them what it still needed, and offer them to fix it in their comment. :)

Proposal for {{Inappropriate}}
I am proposing a revision for {{Inappropriate}}. Currently it looks like this:
{{Inappropriate}}
This article or section is being discussed as to whether or not it is appropriate for the Scratch Community. Please discuss it on this page's talk page. |
If we add a "reason" parameter, we may get something like this:
{{Inappropriate|reason=Bad language}}
This article or section is being discussed as to whether or not it is appropriate for the Scratch Community. Please discuss it on this page's talk page. Reason: Bad language |
What do you think?
3sal2 (talk | contribs) 00:59, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- i like the idea! in fact, we should do that to all templates that are similar to this one.
- KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 01:32, 4 March 2014 (UTC)~
- Maybe. Something like bad language should always be edited out immediately though.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:16, 4 March 2014 (UTC)- What sorts of inappropriate things would you use this for?
Scmb1 (talk | contribs) 21:09, 4 March 2014 (UTC)- I don't know, maybe that is why we need this reason param?
- KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 01:06, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- I don't actually think the template is necessary at all. When have we ever used it? Just about everyone on the wiki can tell appropriate from not, and the thing would be edited out by someone. Afterwards, an admin would delete the bad language from the page's history.
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 01:35, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Comment: I think I remember seeing this template on a user subpage that mentioned zombies.
3sal2 (talk | contribs) 16:00, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- Before my time, apparently. Also, an admin could still use their own judgement.

What about if we just add this template or not? Should we have a wiki vote?

How can I edit this page?
Uh, how can I edit this page? The title is too long to click the edit button. Any URL for editing?
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 01:13, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- It fits for me. However, I have a big monitor. You can edit here.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:18, 18 March 2014 (UTC) - You can use the alt+shift+e access shortcut.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:21, 18 March 2014 (UTC)- For some reason, that shortcut does not work for me :( oh ps: does the edit button get "knocked out" of the screen because of the big title? hmm thats weird, wouldn't the edit button then go to a new line?
- KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 17:44, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- Apparently it doesn't.
- Anyway, are you using a Mac by chance? If so, the shortcut is actually Control+Option+e.

Can someone explain me this syntax?
<div style="position:relative"></div> <div style="position:absolute"></div> <div style="position:static"></div>
I know what static
is, but what about the other two?
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 22:24, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- In absolute, the position is relative to the first positioned parent. In Relative, it is relative to the original position it was in without positioning :)

Infinite
Is an infinite block permanent or temporary? Sorry I'm wondering :)
KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 03:53, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- Finite means having an end. Infinite means never ending.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:45, 6 April 2014 (UTC)- Oh :) thanks! (sorry i got confused)
- KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 17:57, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- Although, actually, the language here is a little confusing. When we make an "infinite" block, it actually just means "indefinite" (that's actually what the blocking UI says-- I may look into making that more consistent). So that means that blocks aren't necessarily forever, we just haven't determined an end date yet. Generally, we wait for the user to contact us and then we work it out privately with them and unblock them when we agree to. So that's why it's a good idea not to gossip about blocked users (not that you were) or put up "banned" templates-- it's likely they will come back, even if it says their block is "infinite," and we don't want to shame them.
Scmb1 (talk | contribs) 17:59, 10 April 2014 (UTC)- Occasionally, (namely with spammers,) you do give out truly infinite blocks though, right?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:02, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

New Helper Program pages
Hi everyone! You may have noticed a couple of new pages related to the Helper Program. We're working to launch the program very soon and created these pages to get started. However, we are not announcing the program to the community and the new Scripts Team group for a few more days--so please help us keep this under the radar until then! For example, please do not post about it (yet) to the forums. :)
You may have also noticed that we protected the pages to Scratch Team editable only (at least that's what the permission should do, but unsure how well it works so far!). For now, we want to protect these pages so that their instructions remain clear, brief, and to-the-point as we launch the program.
If you have any questions, please ask us!

Image recategorization
For you recent changes watchers, i recommend hiding changes in the File: namespace (select namespace, and invert). I did a large recategorization of files, mainly in Category:Other Images (reduced from 150+ to <90) and Category:Scratch Extensions Images (less). If anyone feels like going through Category:Users' Images and creating a subcategory for logos, that would be awesome. There are almost 175 images there, and i'm estimating that around 100 (or even a little more) are logos. Or would it make sense to separate out the non-logos? :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:11, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- I think it makes more sense to have a logo category then a broader non-logo category. Anyway, I'll start work on transferring images to the new logo category in a bit. ;)
- Edit: I think that I'm about done. Could you look at my handiwork and see if I skipped any logos?
