Done
This page was archived once again.
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 21:02, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for helping out, Curiouscrab. (Can we call you Ccrab? It's easier to type.) Next time, please leave the archiving to the admins. :) I have an idea to enforce that actually. Protecting the next few archives, so that non-admins can't edit. I'll go ahead and do that; they can always be unprotected later, if need be.

categories
Done
I noticed I had a lot of pages within my user namespace. Can I make a category for my stuff only? I know what the purpose of categories are, and it would be organizing my stuff. It' s definitely a better idea than making a category with all the users or user talk pages.
Please respond soon,
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 23:46, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- no, you can't.
- it may perhaps be a better idea than that, but it's not really useful; categories are used to organise pages so that readers can easily find pages related to a topic they're interested in, as well as to make it so we can find everything. our policy is to not allow pages in the user and user talk namespaces to be categorised. you can also just alternately click here to see all the pages in between your userpage and the userpage of the user with the following name alphabetically.
- adieu
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 23:53, 6 November 2012 (UTC)- Idea: I'll make a box like the friends one and the favorites one and add my pages in it. But thanks for your advice anyway.

Adding Done and Not done templates to discussions
Done
Curiouscrab suggested (on Luc's talk page) that we start using {{done}} and {{not done}} more. He said we should put them at the end of CP topics, but i think it would do better at the beginning. So, what do others think? I did it to this topic so we can see what it looks like.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:51, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- I think it looks better at the top, next to the title; it'll be consistently next to the header and is easy to jump to.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 10:05, 7 November 2012 (UTC)- Yeah, that's what i thought too. And also, you don't have to worry about people commenting after the template instead of before.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:07, 7 November 2012 (UTC)- Using this Templates makes sense to me. Example:Please start with Interwiki was definetively "not done" but archived again -

- Yeah, that's what i thought too. And also, you don't have to worry about people commenting after the template instead of before.
- I see the logic behind this suggestion and how it would be useful, however I'm not totally sure about the idea and all of the specifics. I'll look over it and possibly discuss it with JSO when I get some free time.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 03:57, 9 November 2012 (UTC)- It's just an easy cue, so that someone doesn't have to read through the entire topic to see whether it was resolved or not. Anyways, what's the point of the templates if not for something great like this? :)

about my suggestion, some details need clarifying
Done
It seems that the admins liked my idea, and so we've begun using it. But some details are unclear. The following details have been blurred out and need discussion to decide whether or not they pass or veto (presidential allusion):
- When a post says Done, can anymore be added on?
- If so, does it stay Done or does it change to Not done?
- If unsure, does it stay Done if only one quick comment was put on that doesn't need a reply, or does it become open again since somebody posted something new?
- If so, does it stay Done or does it change to Not done?
- There is a conversation going on about where the Done and Not done template go. Does it go in the header or the first line of text?
This can be referred to if anybody has any questions. I already added it in to the help box, so no worries there.
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 00:07, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- Adding Done isn't closing the topic; just marking that it doesn't need more discussion. If it actually needs more discussion, it should be switched to Not done, but if it's just comments like "glad this was implemented" it should stay Done. It should go on the first line of text, not in the header.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:32, 9 November 2012 (UTC)- But if we put it in the header you can look at the Contents box and see what gets archived and what doesn't.
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 20:17, 9 November 2012 (UTC)- But putting it in the header messes up the anchors.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:54, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

I was on my userpage and all of a sudden weird script appeared and the title changed back to the default of all capitals.

- i see. Preview all your recent changes until it goes away, then compare the revert that glitched your page with the next revert you made. Ya, its quite complicated.

Shouldn't this be put in to Mait mode too?
Not done
Shouldn't the wiki also be put in maintenance mode too, as for the website.
Joletole (talk | contribs) 01:22, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- The wiki is hosted on a separate server; this is why the wiki will sometimes be down when the site isn't.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 01:47, 30 November 2012 (UTC) - Also, sorry bout that done/not done template I didn't put up. I am just so used to the old version. (I like the old version better, where you didn't have to add the templates).
Joletole (talk | contribs) 01:50, 30 November 2012 (UTC)- It makes it easier for admins to create archives by seeing what conversations still need to stay and what conversations can go. easier for cleanup, and I have a feeling I know why you don't like it. Also, here's a link you might like.
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 01:56, 30 November 2012 (UTC)- Actually, we never decided that we were using them. I personally don't like them, but it's up to Lucario and JSO to decide.
- Also, Curiouscrab, please keep links relevant to the discussion.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 01:59, 30 November 2012 (UTC)- You can see here to see the other admins' opinions. Scimonster said

“ | What else would we use the templates for other than this great idea? :) | ” |
Curiouscrab (talk | contribs) 02:06, 30 November 2012 (UTC)- I believe sysops, including Scimonster, don't have jurisdiction on this; that's his opinion, definitely, but that doesn't mean it's definitely going to happen. Since this definitely impacts the way everyone discusses things on the wiki, we need bureaucrat input. Lucario in particular sounded somewhat negative, but, again, we still need to wait for their consensus.
- Here's what I'd recommend in the meantime: Continue to add them to your discussions if it so pleases you, but don't modify others' if they don't add it.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 02:19, 30 November 2012 (UTC)- As veggie said, we need someone higher up the chain to agree with this. Also, I know there is a way to get a preloaded text when editing a page. (also, your link that led me to log off, well, it took me 15 min to get back on cause I didn't know my password for the wiki.)
Joletole (talk | contribs) 03:10, 30 November 2012 (UTC)- Weird. I found it on your userpage. ;)

Is there a template that does this?
http://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/wiki/File:Ifeq_parser_function.png
I think it compares the first two arguments, returns the third if they are equal, the fourth otherwise. {{ifeq:1|2|3|4}} doesn't work though. Its probably me being a fail. Does an ifeq template, or something similar, exist?
Molybdenum (talk | contribs) 02:42, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- It's a parser function—for more information about it specifically, see here.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 02:47, 30 November 2012 (UTC)- Parser functions aren't actual templates, but they are used like templates. You would do "
{{#ifeq: text | text | equal | not equal}}
", which would print "equal".
Ihaveamac (talk | contribs) 03:02, 30 November 2012 (UTC)- Hmm, I missed the hash. Lemme try. equal Woah!
Molybdenum (talk | contribs) 03:04, 30 November 2012 (UTC)- There are also some that are like templates (without the #) but still aren't real templates.
{{NAMESPACE}}
would return "Scratch Wiki talk" here.
Ihaveamac (talk | contribs) 03:10, 30 November 2012 (UTC)- Also, do you all like my math problem? :P See my userpage. And cool! I never knew about # "templates".

If someoqne is banned on the main site or forums, will they be banned here? My frieqnd wants to know. (So do I :P)
Molybdenum (talk | contribs) 17:35, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
EDIT: Last I read, no ("bans are almost never given on wiki"), but I just wanted to make sure.

- It's true—they're not. I've been banned four times from the main site and never once here.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 17:43, 1 December 2012 (UTC)- Thanks! I'm currently banned on the MS&F (and they're ignoring me), so I just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 18:12, 1 December 2012 (UTC)- Like 10 days? :P
Molybdenum (talk | contribs) 18:14, 1 December 2012 (UTC)- It's taken me from fifteen minutes to like a day for me, but I've heard of them taking much, much longer. They're also probably busier now with the active development of 2.0.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 18:40, 1 December 2012 (UTC)- Well, I don't think it should take them that long; I would estimate 3 or 4 days, and not 10.
Molybdenum (talk | contribs) 18:53, 1 December 2012 (UTC)- Hmm, they usually get back to me faster than that. Mod privileges i guess. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 03:31, 2 December 2012 (UTC)- Well, zippynk told me they got back to him in ~12 hours... (and someone use that outdent template since I can't find it please)

multiple names for templates

#REDIRECT Template:Wink
