okay lets have a vote

do you want the titles to be like "See Also" or "See also"? i vote for the latter.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 13:42, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Ooh, some democracy here. :P
I vote up. 1/1.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:25, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
I vote for "See also". It's how it is on Wikipedia.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 16:21, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
I vote for "See also"
SJRCS_011 (talk | contribs)17:26, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Not much to say in my opinion, however voting is not to be used as the primary way of making a decision on the wiki. Voting can be used in order to get a general idea of what people are thinking about a particular idea, but in no way should be used as information in support of a particular side of an argument. Getting everyone's yes or no opinion is okay, but "voting" implies that majority rules in one form or another, which is not the truth.
Either way, I think I've previously preferred the upper case version, however if the wiki editor community thinks that it would be more appropriate to have the lowercase version, then I'm fine with it.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 23:11, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
um who makes the decisions around here then
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 01:06, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
It's the bureaucrats, right?
How are we supposed to make a decision? Wait for everyone to agree on one or the other?
3/2 up right now.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 03:48, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
The bureaucrats generally choose, though if several people want it differently from a bureaucrat, he or she might reconsider? Something like that :P
I like "See also" :3
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:37, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

One thing I have to point out here. See not the section titles, but the page titles? It's all up. It would be a lot to change EVERYTHING.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:08, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

I like the upper case one. Yes, this may be the first time ever that I've agreed with a bureaucrat on something! But it's my opinion, and honestly I don't care how it is now, I don't think people are gonna come onto the wiki, and refuse to ever go back to it again because they don't like the way some words are capiatalised.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 08:17, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
"Bureaucrats make decisions"? Not really. If there's some issue that's very close head-to-head with an equal/similar amount of people on one side and another, then I will give my opinion. However, if its an important decision relating to the whole wiki in general and I've talked it over with JSO and/or andresmh, then I will make a decision. But especially in the most recent months when I haven't been all that active, you guys have been making the majority of decisions/discussion.
Either way, about half of the people currently think uppercase, and half think lowercase, so you perhaps you guys can work on persuading each other on what you think is better and list the pros and cons, weighing them out :).
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 23:00, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
I don't think changing the page titles is necessary, sci.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 04:59, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
@ Lucario: So we'll discuss. The vote told us that it's a nearly equal amount: 4/3.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:18, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
@veggie: But then it doesn't make sense to have one up and one down.
If we change the anchors, all anchor links will be broken, in places we can't edit them, such as on the forums.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:18, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Are you saying Wikipedia's system doesn't make sense? :\
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:42, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
No. Look at some Wikipedia titles: wikipedia:List of world records in canoeing, wikipedia:Sailing ship, wikipedia:State police, wikipedia:History of computing hardware. Lowercase.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:14, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
As an advocate of the English language, I don't like Wikipedia's system, because technically it is incorrect. All words are capitalised in a title except prepositions and conjunctions... As for sub-titles, as far as I'm aware it's grammatically correct to do it both ways, but I just prefer the capitalised one, looks nicer to me.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 09:39, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

I think you're probably wasting time. I joint in changing 'also' to 'Also' so I'm sticking with that. I've lost who's winning, so I'm hoping someone says soon.
SpiritMaster (talk | contribs) 15:52, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Neither side is winning. :P 4/4.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:01, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
I vote lowercase.
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 05:06, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
Use them together. Inconsistency ftw! Save yourself some time and don't go fixing all those 498 articles :P
JSO (talk | contribs) 22:55, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
JSO has spoken! XD
I guess that could work...
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:51, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia uses "See also".
Bsteward (talk | contribs) 13:15, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

I vote for the See Also.

Proposal for new stub page image

I made a new image for stub pages. Do you see any problems with it, and if not, do you prefer this image to the current image?

Comparison:

  • OLD Document.png
  • NEW Document stub.png

Thanks,
Vista4563 (talk | contribs) 23:25, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Whoops! The Document_stub image has a pixel-size artifact... xD I'll fix it soon.  Vista4563   Talk • Contribs  00:33, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Strange, I thought I fixed it...

Edit on 13:08, 31 October 2011 (UTC): Nevermind, it's just my computer :/  Vista4563   Talk • Contribs  00:53, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Ooh nice :3
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 10:49, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Alright, glad you like it. ^^ Can I change the stub icon?  Vista4563   Talk • Contribs  13:08, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Done already. ;P
Would it be better also for Template:NotUseful?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:47, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

I like it, but it would be better without the rest of the page at the bottom.
Cocolover76 (talk | contribs) 13:30, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

The transparent portion is to inspire others to complete the article ^^
As for Scimonster, I don't think the icon would fit in that particular case. I'll upload my idea and see how it goes :P  Vista4563   Talk • Contribs  00:34, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

How about this one for Template:NotUseful: DocumentInQuestion.png  Vista4563   Talk • Contribs  14:11, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Maybe make the question mark bigger?

How do you color templates?

I want to color the ones in the Block Category Template category to fit the color of the blocks they list :3

Thank you, but how do you color the top part? XD That's what I had in mind actually (like nature on wikipedia, scroll to the 'elements of nature' template), but thanks anyway :3

Congratulations everyone! :)
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 21:40, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

I solved it!

Scratch Wiki talk:Community Portal/Archive 31#red links

Unless anyone objects, I'll add it to MediaWiki:Common.css. :)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:36, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Hmmm. How did you do that with just css? can you add a snippet somewhere in your userspace? :)
JSO (talk | contribs) 20:48, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Congratulations even though I don't fully understand xD
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 04:30, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
Well, I was going to check the href attribute of the a tag, to see if it started /index.php, but then I saw it already had code notifying if it existed or not: span.new.
This is the code BTW:
#scratchpagefunctions span.new a {color: #ba0000 !important;}
#scratchpagefunctions span.new a:visited {color: #a55858 !important;}
The colors are the same as for regular a.new links.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:49, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
Since no-one said anything against it, I guess it can be official. You have 3 hours to object. XD
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 11:27, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
So now every discussion link is red if there is no discussion yet. Why would we want that actually? It seems kind of weird to me, because it's not really relevant for most of our visitors (who aren't wikians). But if everyone agrees we need it, it's ok for me.
JSO (talk | contribs) 17:33, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Maybe it should be a different color then. Perhaps 1648BA? That's halfway between regular and external. Or 682465, halfway between 1648BA and red.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:41, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Urm that last one looks like a used link.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 18:01, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
It does. :/ 891232, a combination of red and 682465?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:05, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Well, I don't think having them red would be such a huge problem. It would inform people who can't edit the wiki that there's nothing of importance to see there. Am I right or am I right??
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 18:13, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
XD I agree.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:52, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

About button broken link.

Click the about button at the top of the page. The link is broken. It is only broken in the wiki. Somebody who can fix this should.
Bsteward (talk | contribs) 23:20, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

I reported this a while back...
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:29, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
I was going to say, "fast fix isn't it?" but something weird is going on. The header just won't update no matter what article purging and cache clearing madness I try hmm.
JSO (talk | contribs) 16:12, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Fixed. btw, if you "report" next time, let me know on Scratch or on my Talk page.
JSO (talk | contribs) 21:56, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
JSO, why don't we have a "report" button on the wiki, or maybe a "marked for deletion" template, which could then show up on a special page, like maybe Special:Reported or Special:Marked_for_Deletion
SJRCS_011 (talk | contribs)13:07, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Also, the "My Page" is too
SJRCS_011 (talk | contribs)13:13, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
dkslf it's working!!
Also, My Stuff isn't supposed to work. There isn't any sort of redirect link.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 15:23, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
But as I said the other time, it could link to the page of the currently logged in user.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:11, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Have our "page not found" message be like Scratch's

I would like it if [1] looked like [2]. I made a mockup in my sandbox. :)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:46, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

I like it.
SJRCS_011 (talk | contribs)12:33, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
I think I like it too. It has a more 'viewer'-oriented approach to 404'ing :) You might need to remove the blue bar though, every page already has a title, right? Or well, maybe not. It's up to you.
JSO (talk | contribs) 19:38, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Wiki friends?

I was thinking, "We should have a "Wiki Friends" thing on the Scratch Wiki." It would work like the Scratch Website's friending, having something like "My Friends' Latest Projects" that would be called "My Friends' Latest Articles/Contributions". What do you think, guys?
ElectricSparx (talk | contribs) 23:47, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

I don't see a point in having friends on the wiki. If you really want you can embed the contributions of other users in your user page.
Bsteward (talk | contribs) 02:34, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
I agree with BSteward.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 02:47, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Well, I'm just saying.
ElectricSparx (talk | contribs) 04:24, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Although we are a community of contributors, adding friends lists would only add to the social aspect of the wiki, and would not actually improve the content of the wiki in any way.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 22:51, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Plus, we already have friends on the main site.
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 22:55, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
True.

Do we have articles on memes?

Do we have articles on memes? If not, can we do articles on memes?
ElectricSparx (talk | contribs) 04:29, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

I don't really know. I don't think most memes are important enough to have an article of their own here, but I say that you can add a "Popular Memes" section to the Scratch Memes article.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:35, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
This was sort of a question asking if we DID have articles on memes. :P
ElectricSparx (talk | contribs) 16:43, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
We don't have any articles on any individual memes in particular, but as ElectricSparx mentioned, we do have an article on the topic in general. Memes are not significant enough to have individual articles for each one.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 22:49, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Seriously, that's all I was asking, was if we had an article(s) on memes. Maybe you guys should *cough actually read cough* listen to my stuff. :P
ElectricSparx (talk | contribs) 02:28, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Oh yeah, I think I once asked if I could make a topic on meme's but they said no. But that's fine with me :)
JJROCKER (talk | contribs) 18:11, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
I was answering your second question, which I thought kind of hinted to the answer to the first. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:14, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

What are the problems with images?

Hi all, I've heard a lot about image uploading not working (sometimes?), for a long time already. Could someone please clearly explain what the problem is so I can try to fix it? Thanks :)
JSO (talk | contribs) 15:05, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

I haven't had problems uploading images.
Bsteward (talk | contribs) 16:28, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
My main problem is the images that can't be deleted. If you go through the unused files page, and try to delete images, then you'll see the problem. Examples of errors that come up are:
Error deleting file: Could not create directory "deleted/g/9/s".
Error deleting file: The archive directory "deleted/s/d/l" is not writable by the webserver.
:/
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 18:08, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Unless JSO doesn't get that problem. :O
The upload from URL thing doesn't work.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:16, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Also I think uploading gifs might not work but pngs do work. Or maybe it's the other way around, or maybe I have False Memory Syndrome.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 18:19, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
I don't remember having trouble with GIFs... not that I've uploaded any lately. XD
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:24, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that's a permissions error. I'll try to fix it - shouldn't be too hard. Also, try to use PNG instead of GIF - it's a much better file format.
JSO (talk | contribs) 16:58, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
With block images we all use PNGs don't worry ;) - But some things are in gif format anyway, and I seem to remember having trouble with those. But as I said I'm probably remembering it falsely. But there definitely was a problem uploading images at some point, it was probably fixed.

When I get those I usually PNGify it using GIMP.

The problem usually appears, at least for me, when deleting GIFs after I've pnginated them.

Why is it called "Community Portal"?

lol, I don't know if this has been asked before but, why is it called "Community Portal"? Shouldn't it be "Community Discussion(s)"?

I don't know why, but don't see a reason to change it.

Under Construction!

Can anyone give me the "Under Construction" thing so I can use it on my page?

Right now, I just wrote "UNDER CONSTRUCTION!" On my page but I think it would look better with that logo thing with all the stuff... :P
