okay lets have a vote
do you want the titles to be like "See Also" or "See also"? i vote for the latter.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 13:42, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Ooh, some democracy here. :P
- I vote up. 1/1.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:25, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Not much to say in my opinion, however voting is not to be used as the primary way of making a decision on the wiki. Voting can be used in order to get a general idea of what people are thinking about a particular idea, but in no way should be used as information in support of a particular side of an argument. Getting everyone's yes or no opinion is okay, but "voting" implies that majority rules in one form or another, which is not the truth.
- Either way, I think I've previously preferred the upper case version, however if the wiki editor community thinks that it would be more appropriate to have the lowercase version, then I'm fine with it.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 23:11, 24 October 2011 (UTC)- um who makes the decisions around here then
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 01:06, 25 October 2011 (UTC)- It's the bureaucrats, right?
- How are we supposed to make a decision? Wait for everyone to agree on one or the other?
- 3/2 up right now.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 03:48, 25 October 2011 (UTC)- The bureaucrats generally choose, though if several people want it differently from a bureaucrat, he or she might reconsider? Something like that :P
- I like "See also" :3
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:37, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- um who makes the decisions around here then
One thing I have to point out here. See not the section titles, but the page titles? It's all up. It would be a lot to change EVERYTHING.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:08, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- I like the upper case one. Yes, this may be the first time ever that I've agreed with a bureaucrat on something! But it's my opinion, and honestly I don't care how it is now, I don't think people are gonna come onto the wiki, and refuse to ever go back to it again because they don't like the way some words are capiatalised.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 08:17, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- "Bureaucrats make decisions"? Not really. If there's some issue that's very close head-to-head with an equal/similar amount of people on one side and another, then I will give my opinion. However, if its an important decision relating to the whole wiki in general and I've talked it over with JSO and/or andresmh, then I will make a decision. But especially in the most recent months when I haven't been all that active, you guys have been making the majority of decisions/discussion.
- Either way, about half of the people currently think uppercase, and half think lowercase, so you perhaps you guys can work on persuading each other on what you think is better and list the pros and cons, weighing them out :).
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 23:00, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think changing the page titles is necessary, sci.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 04:59, 26 October 2011 (UTC) - @ Lucario: So we'll discuss. The vote told us that it's a nearly equal amount: 4/3.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:18, 26 October 2011 (UTC)- @veggie: But then it doesn't make sense to have one up and one down.
- If we change the anchors, all anchor links will be broken, in places we can't edit them, such as on the forums.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:18, 26 October 2011 (UTC)- Are you saying Wikipedia's system doesn't make sense? :\
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:42, 26 October 2011 (UTC)- No. Look at some Wikipedia titles: wikipedia:List of world records in canoeing, wikipedia:Sailing ship, wikipedia:State police, wikipedia:History of computing hardware. Lowercase.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:14, 26 October 2011 (UTC)- As an advocate of the English language, I don't like Wikipedia's system, because technically it is incorrect. All words are capitalised in a title except prepositions and conjunctions... As for sub-titles, as far as I'm aware it's grammatically correct to do it both ways, but I just prefer the capitalised one, looks nicer to me.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 09:39, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

I think you're probably wasting time. I joint in changing 'also' to 'Also' so I'm sticking with that. I've lost who's winning, so I'm hoping someone says soon.

Proposal for new stub page image
I made a new image for stub pages. Do you see any problems with it, and if not, do you prefer this image to the current image?

I like it, but it would be better without the rest of the page at the bottom.
Cocolover76 (talk | contribs) 13:30, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
- The transparent portion is to inspire others to complete the article ^^
- As for Scimonster, I don't think the icon would fit in that particular case. I'll upload my idea and see how it goes :P Vista4563 Talk • Contribs 00:34, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Chrischb (talk | contribs) 04:30, 12 November 2011 (UTC)- Well, I was going to check the

Scimonster (talk | contribs) 11:27, 13 November 2011 (UTC)- So now every discussion link is red if there is no discussion yet. Why would we want that actually? JSO (talk | contribs) 17:33, 13 November 2011 (UTC)- Maybe it should be a different color then. Perhaps 1648BA? That's halfway between regular and external. Or 682465, halfway between 1648BA and red.

Wiki friends?
I was thinking, "We should have a "Wiki Friends" thing on the Scratch Wiki." It would work like the Scratch Website's friending, having something like "My Friends' Latest Projects" that would be called "My Friends' Latest Articles/Contributions". What do you think, guys?
ElectricSparx (talk | contribs) 23:47, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
- I don't see a point in having friends on the wiki. If you really want you can embed the contributions of other users in your user page.
Bsteward (talk | contribs) 02:34, 18 November 2011 (UTC)- I agree with BSteward.

- Although we are a community of contributors, adding friends lists would only add to the social aspect of the wiki, and would not actually improve the content of the wiki in any way.

ElectricSparx (talk | contribs) 04:29, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

- We don't have any articles on any individual memes in particular, but as ElectricSparx mentioned, we do have an article on the topic in general. Memes are not significant enough to have individual articles for each one.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 22:49, 18 November 2011 (UTC)- Seriously, that's all I was asking, was if we had an article(s) on memes. Maybe you guys should *cough actually read cough* listen to my stuff. :P

What are the problems with images?
Hi all, I've heard a lot about image uploading not working (sometimes?), for a long time already. Could someone please clearly explain what the problem is so I can try to fix it? Thanks :)
JSO (talk | contribs) 15:05, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
- I haven't had problems uploading images.
Bsteward (talk | contribs) 16:28, 19 November 2011 (UTC)- My main problem is the images that can't be deleted. If you go through the unused files page, and try to delete images, then you'll see the problem. Examples of errors that come up are:
- Error deleting file: Could not create directory "deleted/g/9/s".
- Error deleting file: The archive directory "deleted/s/d/l" is not writable by the webserver.
- :/
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 18:08, 19 November 2011 (UTC)- Unless JSO doesn't get that problem. :O
- The upload from URL thing doesn't work.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:16, 19 November 2011 (UTC)- Also I think uploading gifs might not work but pngs do work. Or maybe it's the other way around, or maybe I have False Memory Syndrome.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 18:19, 19 November 2011 (UTC)- I don't remember having trouble with GIFs... not that I've uploaded any lately. XD

- Yeah, that's a permissions error. I'll try to fix it - shouldn't be too hard. Also, try to use PNG instead of GIF - it's a much better file format.
JSO (talk | contribs) 16:58, 22 November 2011 (UTC)- With block images we all use PNGs don't worry ;) - But some things are in gif format anyway, and I seem to remember having trouble with those. But as I said I'm probably remembering it falsely. But there definitely was a problem uploading images at some point, it was probably fixed.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 18:41, 22 November 2011 (UTC)- When I get those I usually PNGify it using GIMP.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:52, 22 November 2011 (UTC)- The problem usually appears, at least for me, when deleting GIFs after I've pnginated them.

Why is it called "Community Portal"?
lol, I don't know if this has been asked before but, why is it called "Community Portal"? Shouldn't it be "Community Discussion(s)"?

- I don't know why, but don't see a reason to change it.
Bsteward (talk | contribs) 02:43, 20 November 2011 (UTC) - I think its the default in MediaWiki.

Under Construction!
Can anyone give me the "Under Construction" thing so I can use it on my page?
Right now, I just wrote "UNDER CONSTRUCTION!" On my page but I think it would look better with that logo thing with all the stuff... :P
