If you have any ideas for featured images, feel free to post them below!

I think we should feature an image of the S:CPND discussion that suggests adding a designated page for featured image suggestions.
- I think that this image is nice, but perhaps we should update it (and the other images on Scratch Statistics).

About updating MediaWiki
TL;DR: We're doing some tests to update MediaWiki due to some problems. Probably the wiki shut down for a few hours when it's ready to be installed. (Note: This is not an official explanation because made by me, so may be ignored)
As the developers, we're currently experiencing some problems on general extensions due to errors; and to solve them, we're thinking to upgrade our wiki to 1.35. This upgration will change a lot of things, from icons to security patch; so we're doing patches to ensure that our extensions will work successfully. When all preparations are completed, probably someone from admins will make an explanation.
ahmetlii Talk Contributions Directory 19:46, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- Where did you get the information about the MediaWiki update here?

am i allowed to edit user messages if...
Am I allowed to edit user messages if the user calls me something I don't like to be called (only to fix what they call me)? Lots of people call me "Garnetluvcookie", which I don't like because I'm very sensitive about how the G in my name is capitalized.
garnetluvcookie (talk | contribs) 18:40, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
- That is not an allowed usage of editing others' messages. Especially not when Garnetluvcookie is infact your username, although you may prefer something else and are allowed to make others aware of that.
Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 19:08, 17 September 2020 (UTC)- oml is this just to trigger me
garnetluvcookie (talk | contribs) 19:36, 17 September 2020 (UTC)- also my scratch username is @garnetluvcookie, MediaWiki just auto capitalized the G.
garnetluvcookie (talk | contribs) 19:38, 17 September 2020 (UTC)- The message was not intended to "trigger" anything-- you asked a question and I answered it. While I am aware that MediaWiki does strictly capitalize username, and you are allowed to edit your signature or use displaytitles on your user (talk) page as appropriate, it would not be appropriate to chastise others for referring to what is your actual name. It also does not constitute editing another users' message as this can sometimes misrepresent what they are saying.
Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 19:57, 17 September 2020 (UTC)- Ah yes, because changing the capitalization of a username changes the meaning of the message. To garnetluvcookie, ask Ken about it on his talk page. He is also sensitive about what people call him.

Just don't ask him right now, of course. He's busy with his studies. (So am I but I can't resist replying to talk messages...)
Dominic305 Talk Contribs (1,791) Scratch Directory 00:22, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- "Ah yes, because changing the capitalization of a username changes the meaning of the message." This sarcastic comment is not helpful here. The point is that messages are edited when they are in violation of policies or when they are causing some other problem (for example, messages with erroneous formatting such as unclosed tags, messages adding a page to a category, or something like that. In addition, I have had others edit my messages in a way that changes their meaning before that has needed to be undone. The actors were doing so in good faith, but it was still problematic.
- "Ken about it on his talk page. He is also sensitive about what people call him." So, he has a bias, meaning probably not the best ask. Instead, see the already existing well-established policy which says it should not be edited. In general, talk page messages are treated like userspace.
Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 00:44, 18 September 2020 (UTC)- garnetluvcookie, I realize that you may not like the name, but you shouldn't change another person's edit. Instead, you should reply kindly asking them to stop calling you that and to call you the names you prefer.
- You also shouldn't be "triggered" against a capitilization. MediaWiki, and autocorrect, will capitilize yours, and others, names.
- If they continue calling you that name (or purposely capitilize it), that's a completely different story.
12944qwerty Talk Contribs Scratch 15:11, 18 September 2020 (UTC)- The user repeatedly keeps calling me Garnetluvcookie , and I've reported the revisions and no action has beeen taken.

12944qwerty Talk Contribs Scratch 17:33, 18 September 2020 (UTC)- I have asked the person to stop at least 4 times.
garnetluvcookie (talk | contribs) 17:44, 18 September 2020 (UTC)- Ok... but instead of reporting their revision, ask an admin or someone. But please assume good faith in the future. It may be an accident.

I am assuming good faith. It's most likely an accident, but it's just something I'm sensitive about and annoys me... a lot.

12944qwerty Talk Contribs Scratch 18:20, 18 September 2020 (UTC)- Sure. There are many reasons why, but the important one is that I never put capital letters in my usernames because it messes up literally my whole profile page for some reason and makes me look like someone who Talks Like This.

I don't want to start a flame, but I believe that was a fair report because it may seem small to you, but it affects me mentally and emotionally.
garnetluvcookie (talk | contribs) 19:34, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe make a less strict report extension? In this case, the 'new' report button could've been used to report a user that hasn't stopped calling garnetluvcookie with a 'G'...
- I'm not sure, it's just a thought....
12944qwerty Talk Contribs Scratch 19:47, 18 September 2020 (UTC)- So there's been a lot of discussion on both sides of this matter - I thought it would be appropriate to share my two cents on the matter. To be clear, I do not wish for my reply to be hostile, demeaning, or rude, simply a summary on my thoughts.
- I do not believe that it is a "weird perspective" to have a preferred way of being referred to as. Sometimes the little things can really tick people off, and I understand that. I also understand that MediaWiki autocapitalizes names, such as jvvg/Jvvg, however we should all take note of people's preferred names and call them by that rather than their MediaWiki name.
- In instances where a user has been referred to incorrectly, whether intentionally or inadvertently (as has been stated before, Assume Good Faith ), the proper course of action should be to ask the user nicely not to refer to you as that and give a correct preferred name, which I can see has been done here multiple times. I understand it may upset/annoy the user who has been incorrectly referred to, however editing a message should not happen, which I can also see has not taken place. Good job!
- Reporting should also not usually be used in these circumstances - instead, CC an admin or EW into the conversation and they will (hopefully) ask the user nicely to use the correct name.
- @garnetluvcookie I understand that how you are referred to affects you deeply. Please don't think you are being told off here. In fact, by asking the user nicely to not call you by a certain name, you've done the right thng. Well done.
- I think we all need to calm down and hold off sarcastic, snidy, or mean comments. We're a community built on being welcoming and enjoyable, let's keep it that way. :)

12944qwerty Talk Contribs Scratch 20:09, 18 September 2020 (UTC)- @12944qwerty CC, as in, carbon copy, I assume.

My idea is that there will be some visual scratchblocks, and a button next to it. The user can click on the button, and it will bring them to scratch and remix a project with the code in it. They can then mess around with it.
You could probably use this in

- Scratch Block pages

- It's because User:78ch3/Sig has some new lines it should not. There are two line breaks between </span> and <noinclude>. Those new lines should simply be removed (so that it is </span><noinclude> on one line), and then it should be fixed.

Another user’s talk page organization
Another user (not mentioning who) on this wiki requires users who post on their talk page that they use level three headings for discussion headings and put their messages in a section (some of which are not at the bottom of the page) on that page, whilst all other talk pages (including user ones) are supposed to use level two headings and require all messages (including bot ones) to go at the bottom of the page. Proposing changes on the roles
Done
Hi everyone. With the update, MediaWiki will give an extra feature for us: Time-limited roles. With it, we can do time-limited bots for testing, give role for a technical stuff and more. However, as the developers and admins, we will not want to enable it before getting a consensus - because it's about moderation also, undesirable actions may make different things.
Discussion
This will gonna be huge.
ahmetlii Talk Contributions Directory 18:18, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- To my opinion, it's a good idea - and I believe that the admins will give it only for necessary actions.

Downtime coming on Tuesday
Hi everyone,
As detailed in a forum post, the Wiki will be down on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 9pm Scratch Time/1am UTC for about 30 minutes (click the link to see it in your own timezone). We will be upgrading MediaWiki to 1.35 from the current version of 1.28. See the upgrade megathread for details about the upgrade itself and what it will entail.
During the upgrade, the English Wiki will be down entirely (all pages will be replaced with a message explaining the situation) and not just read-only. Other language Wikis will continue operating as normal, though they may be a bit slower. Any discussion necessary during that time can take place on our forum topic. We have done a dry run of this upgrade and have ironed out the issues that came up, so we do not anticipate running into any problems. Still, something unexpected may always come up, so please be patient and don't panic if it takes longer than 30 minutes.
TL;DR: The Wiki will be down Tuesday at 9pm Scratch Time for about 30 minutes so we can perform software updates.

Arjunking788 (talk | contribs) 05:41, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- It is because of how you are trying to link to your userpage. To have an internal link, you only need the page name, not the full URL of the page. So for your userpage this would be:
[[User:Arjunking788]]
. This will create a link like this: User:Arjunking788. If you want to make the link say something other than the exact page title, like this: Arjunking788 (without the "User:"), then you can do this:[[User:Arjunking788|Arjunking788]]
. The reason it displays a "Bad title" error is because you were mixing the external and internal link formats. An external link with custom text is done like this:[https://example.com Example Link]
(notice how it uses a " " (space) instead of a "|"), so you were actually linking to a page calledUser:Arjunking788|User:Arjunking788
, which isn't a valid page name, instead ofUser:Arjunking788
, which is a valid page name.

Upgrade complete!
Hi everybody,
I am proud to report that the Wiki upgrade is complete! We are now running MediaWiki 1.35, which should help resolve a lot of the technical issues we've had in the past. My apologies that the upgrade took somewhat longer than planned (a little over an hour instead of the 30 minutes anticipated). The only remaining major issue is that currently foreign file repositories are broken. The reason for this is that the other Wikis are still running MediaWiki 1.28 whose database structure (at least when it comes to files) is incompatible with that of MediaWiki 1.35. The other Wikis will be upgraded at some point in the future, and as each Wiki is upgraded, the file repository will also be linked.
Also, we now have two big new features:
- Our new in-house account request system, which replaces the existing system that was only a modification of an existing system. The new system allows for discussion about requests to take place on the Wiki itself rather than in comments, and also generally is more tailored towards being integrated with Scratch. This system was developed by me, apple502j, Naleksuh and kenny2scratch with translations provided by apple502j (Japanese), ahmetlii (Turkish), smrman (French), and Mini_Kostik (Russian)
- The VisualEditor extension, a visual editor. This is still in beta and is currently opt-in (preferences -> editing -> "Enable the visual editor"). We have made preliminary efforts to integrate it with ScratchWikiSkin, but this is still a work-in-progress. Please let us know of any specific issues you encounter.
Thank you everybody for your patience, and please let us know of any issues you may encounter!

- to make this:
- Hello, world!
- You can also use hex codes, for example:
<span style="color:#ec42f5">Hello, world!</span>
- makes:
- Hello, world!
- Feel free to ask if you have any further questions. Also, just so you know (for the future), generally there is no need to indent the first post of a topic.

Skin problems
It seems that the Cologne Blue and Modern skins do not work at all. Once you switch to one of them, every page will look like this (Modern) or this (Cologne Blue). If the skin is accidently set you can append ?useskin=vector
so you can revert your settings, but this should still probably be fixed ASAP so new editors don't have this problem and not know how to fix it. It may also be my iPad acting weird so if anyone wants to test it use the Preview function.
