Not to be confused with Scratch Mentors.

The Scratch Mentor Program (commonly abbreviated as SMP) is a program of the Youth Leadership Lab. It was announced to the public on June 3rd, 2025. The goal of the program is to build on the existing Scratch Design Studio and Welcoming Committee programs, giving mentors access to both programs and help shape Scratch's special events.[1].The Scratch Team is helping the Youth Mentors in collaborating, such as encouraging the members to create "seed projects" (example projects for new Design Studios). The current program liaison is ceebee.

History

The program was first announced to the Youth Advisory Board and then to Scratch Design Studio curators and Welcoming Committee curators. Scratch Design Studio and Welcoming Committee curators were invited to join the program automatically and needed to accept to continue their roles as curators, as the discussions for these groups will move from their respective private forums into the Leadership Lab external platform. The existing curators would join up to 50 applicants for the program for a 6 month term.

The Scratch Team will review applications and send an email to the provided guardian's email address on the application.

Applications to join the program open periodically. The first cohort was in July of 2025[2], and the second was in January of 2026.[3]

How to apply

The applicant had to complete two parts of the application. First, they were required to fill out an online form. Then, they had to choose a scenario from the application form and make a project answering certain questions corresponding with that scenario.

All applicants were required to be under the age of 18, unless they were an existing SDS curator, Welcoming Committee curator, or Youth Advisory Board member.
