Do we really have to italicize "Scratch Wiki"?
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 15:07, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Help pages

How about changing that line to: For an introduction to wiki features and procedures, please read some help pages.?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:53, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Yes lol! I think the old message needs some fixing-up lol:)
Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 14:54, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
That would be good. :)

New message idea

Here is my idea for a new message.

Welcome to the Scratch Wiki! Before you begin to edit, please read the welcome tutorial as they provide a very useful basis for editing. If you have any questions, you can ask me on my talk page, or you can also bring it up on the Community Portal. We hope you make many useful edits to the Wiki.

I love it! I think this the one we should use.
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 22:17, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
Let's keep this on the CP discussion. Splitting discussions never does anybody any good.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 22:51, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
So true.
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 14:49, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Broken

The message should be ROUND, instead it is a RECTANGLE.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 00:39, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

What browser are you using, and does it pass the ACID3 test?
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:42, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Firefox 2.0, and not even close.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 02:00, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Firefox 2.0 does not support the "border-radius" feature, which is a relatively modern addition to CSS. If your browser does not get 100/100 on the ACID3 test, then websites are generally not supposed to put any extra effort forth to support them.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:03, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Okay, but by normal machine does it.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 02:04, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Well, the advantage to having an old machine is that you can see blinking text :P
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 18:34, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Hey

Theres a little extra part:

showing on the screen. I would fix it but the page is protected.
Fmtfmtfmt2 (talk | contribs) 12:27, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Fixed! I had to change it a lot so it met proper HTML standards.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:32, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

No no no!

We can't have this as our default welcome message. It is too huge and thick, and it was done without community consensus.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 15:24, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

We've changed the message way too many times. We either need to settle on one or I'm returning it to a plain text non-formatted one.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 17:26, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
I preferred the old one :(
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 18:03, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Plain text!
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:36, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
I like the plain ext one if I say so myself.
-PRO- Logo2.png-PRO- (talk | contribs) 19:41, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
I think the plain text is better.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 01:01, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
I agree. We're getting a bit too colorful with the message.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 01:23, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Plain text it is then!
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:29, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
@-PRO-: *text :P
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 23:02, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

FORMATTING!

This breaks formatting[1]
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 18:25, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Were there a couple of excess lines under the text?
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 18:45, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Fixed.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 18:49, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Hey

Can the help page link link to Help:Welcome and not Help:Contents?
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 20:06, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Help:Contents shows all of the help pages - it's more of a variety of tutorials for new users.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 01:53, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
We link to Help:Welcome in the approval comment... or at least we should.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:24, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Really?

Is the emoticon necessary?
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 16:10, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Nothing in the message is truly necessary, but the emoticon adds a little bit of character in my opinion.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 17:12, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
OK. Maybe {{E|<:)>}} instead?
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 18:18, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
What's wrong with plain text?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 20:38, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
If we can use image emoticons, why use text ones? It isn't like we're all using UNIX System V on a teletypewriter that can't render images.
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 20:47, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
I'll quote you something Paddle2See told me once (or paraphrase at least): "Just because you can do something on a computer doesn't mean you should." That was in the context of using triple-high ascii art text in reports, but still. Text is simpler.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 21:06, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
Then what's the point of {{e}}?
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 02:59, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

I have an idea...

Why don't we push the welcome template to this page. Instead of "Welcome to the Scratch Wiki! We hope you will contribute much and well. You probably want to read the help pages before doing anything. If you have any questions, you can ask anyone on the Scratch Wiki. We will appreciate it if you make a lot of edits to the wiki, but make sure the edits are good quality edits. Again, welcome and have fun! :)", it could look like this. {{welc}}~~~~. The reason for the missing space is because if you add it, it looks like this: Template:Welc
user (talk | contribs)

If you don't, it looks like this: Template:Welc
user (talk | contribs)
15:17, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
I was just waiting until we had set in stone what the template should look like, but it seems that we've done that. I went ahead and put it in. Please let me know if it messes up the format.
