After the release of Scratch 3.0, the Scratch Team began designing concept art for horizontal versions of Scratch Blocks. While these blocks were never implemented into the official version of Scratch, they are in Scratch Jr.

Development

Horizontal blocks first made an appearance on the app Scratch Jr. These were to reduce the amount of space the blocks took up, as there is not much space available due to the limited screen size mobile devices have.[citation needed] After the release of Scratch 3.0, design sheets were made to introduce these horizontal blocks into the official project editor.[citation needed]

Since then, the development horizontal blocks has slowed, but the Scratch Team still plans to release them to the official editor.[citation needed] Code for the horizontal blocks can be found here.

Community Response

Since the Scratch Team announced that they would be implementing horizontal blocks, there has been both positive and negative reception.[citation needed] However, there has been an overwhelming amount of positive reception compared to negative.[citation needed]
