A duplicate topic (often abbreviated to dupe), is when a forum topic overlaps, is extremely similar, or is identical to an older post about the same topic. These mostly occur inside the Suggestions forum, although they can occur in some other forums as well.
Scratch Team Actions
Duplicate forum topics are usually closed by the Scratch Team, often accompanied by a post explaining they are closing it. This is to prevent the forums from getting cluttered, and it is also to keep the discussion of one topic in a single place.
If the duplicate is way more active than the original, the two topics can also be merged in order to combine the posts. However, this is not done too often.
There are some forum topics about duplication, most of them stickied, for example:
- Guide to Finding Duplicates, a topic explaining how to find duplicates.
- The 7th Suggestion Directory, a list of suggestions that can easily be searched through to avoid making topics.
