Curator (studio)

A studio curator is a user who can add projects to studios. Curators can be invited to studios for different reasons, such as needing more people to help with maintaining the studio, wanting a role-play or collaboration studio to list involved Scratchers, etc. Curators were added in Scratch 2.0.

Capabilities

Once a user is a curator of a studio, they can do more things with the studio than someone who is not a curator or manager. Curators can add any project to a studio, even without the studio having enabled the setting that allows general Scratchers to add projects. Curators can be promoted to managers, who have more user rights.

Curators Tab

The curators tab is one of the sections on a studio. To the right of the title or after the description of a studio, there are 4 links to different sections of the studio. The link to curators is the 3rd tab. Currently, it only says Curators on the link, but it used to say Curators and then the number of curators and managers in a studio in parentheses to the right of it. The curator count was removed on July 23, 2014 because the Scratch Team did not want people getting caught up on the curators number. In the curators tab, it shows all of the curators and managers. At the top, in bold text, it says Managers. Below that, it shows all of the profile pictures of the managers, and a link to their profile with their username next to their icon. Below the managers section, it says Curators in bold text. It shows the same thing as the managers section, but instead it shows the users who are only curators of the studio. Only managers can promote curators to managers and invite new curators, though.

How to Become a Studio Curator

For a user to become a curator of a studio, a manager must invite them to the studio. If the user wants to curate a studio but has not received any invitation, they can ask to curate in the studio comments. Once a manager invites them, they will get a message saying who invited them to the studio, what the studio is named, and a link to the curators tab on the studio. When one goes to the curators tab of the studio, there will be a purple box at the top of the page saying "You've been invited to become a curator of this studio. Click here to accept", and clicking the word that says here will make them a curator of the studio. The purple box will then be replaced with a light green one saying "Congratulations! You are now a curator of this studio".

After becoming a curator, one can remove themself as curator by finding their username in the curators tab, selecting the three dots to the right of their name, and clicking "Remove."

Many users have reported that it is annoying to get random curator invitations. Most of the time the user who invited them is trying to advertise their studio by making people join. Another common reason to invite random users is to advertise a project they made. Another problem is that there is no demote button for managers, so users have to remove them and reinvite the user they removed, which can become annoying to some users overtime.

Removed Features

"Invite All Followers" button

The invite all followers button was a button that invited all the followers of the user clicking the button to be curators of a studio. This button was removed during Scratch 2.0 because it was too easy to create spam. Some Scratchers have requested this feature to be re-added, but the suggestion has been rejected.
