During April Fools' Day, a joke Scratch Design Studio is often made. Generally, managers of Scratch Design Studios decide the theme for the April Fools' Day SDS. These SDS studios only last for at least 1-2 weeks.[citation needed]
History
The first April Fools' Day SDS is The Last SDS. This studio was hosted on April 1st, 2016[1]. A teaser project was shared regarding this[2]. Since 2022 with the exception of 2023, every April 1st at least a new April Fools SDS is created.

Upon release, the description said:
- "We the curators are sad to say that this SDS will be the last. The Scratch Team informed us via forum post saying “Hey everyone. I'm really sorry, but the Scratch Team has decided that the next SDS will have to be the last one. Y'all did a great job, but it's time for something new… you'll find out soon. After April st, it was updated to say:
- "APRIL FOOLS! We sure got you, didn't we? For those who missed it, the SDS put together a prank claiming that this SDS will be the last. We would still love for you guys' to submit projects describing some reflections, memories, or favorite parts of the Scratch Design Studio! We can't wait until next year, the pranks will just get better...."
Alien Invasion[4]
Its description says:
- Oh no, it looks like a group of aliens have taken over this studio! Blrbbrbrlbb blrbrrlbb blrbrrlb! We are going out of this world for this SDS; prepare your spaceship and put on your spacesuit! In this Scratch Blrbrrlb Studio we invite you to come to space with us and explore the aliens that inhabit it. From UFOs to suspicious radio signals or even aliens themselves — the options for projects are limitless!
Silly Superheroes[5]
Its description says:
- "Woohoo! Superheroes have saved the Scratch Design Studios from aliens! But these weren’t regular superheroes, they were Silly Superheroes! In this SDS, create a project about these superheroes. How do they dress? What are their powers? What do they like to eat? Do they have any pets? Let your imagination run wild!"
Spy Headquarters[6]
Its description says:
- "Ever wanted to work in a top-secret headquarters and find out what everyone's really up to? Find out information about organizations in hiding? Create elaborate disguises to go undercover? For this year's April Fools, we are glad to bring to you Spy Headquarters, an SDS all about spies!
