An Animated Music Video, commonly abbreviated to AMV, is an Animation Project with a song. The animation usually goes by the lyrics of the song or meant by a or the song's specific lore, for example; if the lyrics say "I jump out of bed", the animation may show a person jumping out of a bed. AMVs do not always include people, animals or objects. Sometimes, they are abstract and include shapes, words and backgrounds.
AMVs can be animated directly in Scratch or made in external platforms before being uploaded. AMVs can also be exported to external platforms such as YouTube (as a screen recording). This can allow users to watch if they couldn't do so on Scratch due to lag.[1]
Differences Between Animations and AMVs
Even if they are animated, there are some differences between animations and AMVs:
- AMVs are usually longer than typical animations, since they can span the length of the song.
- Some AMVs only animate a part of the project, due to large file sizes or lack of the needed skills. These types of AMVs are mostly MAP parts.
How AMVs Are Created
An AMV may be created by one user or as a collaboration by many to distribute the effort. A collaboration may be organised by a "MAP call".[clarify]
AMV drawings are either done in the Paint Editor or in an external drawing program - bitmap or vector.
A GIF can also be used on the animation.
The assets, sounds, and animations are compiled into one project. Effects can be added to polish the final product before publishing.
PMVs
PMVs (Picture Music Video) are the same concept as AMVs, but are pictures with movements, zooming, edited colors, etc. Although not as popular, they are easier to make due to this.
