Why did you blank Jonathanpb's talk page?

Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:01, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

Because I forgot we weren't using the template anymore.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 13:07, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
Regardless of the {{nored}} template, why would you remove content from someone else's talk page?

On scratch.cf you changed the version loading code and deleted the images folder? That was kind of necessary to the archive actually working. And didn't you say you had some new versions to add?
Djdolphin (talk | contribs) 01:25, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

I'm on that, but I changed it for a reason. For the images, that was a security hole, I'll need to copy some things over, but I didn't delete the images.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:27, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
How are the images a security hole?
Djdolphin (talk | contribs) 01:33, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
It validates the version names before writing the webpage, so there's no chance of XSS. And the actual versions are completely safe.
Djdolphin (talk | contribs) 01:36, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Check out the online copy of 0.1, I disabled Squeak so that you can't write to the official copy that people download from, I need to do that for the others.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 02:26, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Huh? I see no difference in the code, and that sentence literally makes no sense.
Djdolphin (talk | contribs) 03:33, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Sigh... the online version of Squeak can't write to the server. Browser security doesn't allow that.
Djdolphin (talk | contribs) 03:37, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

What did you DO?! Even if I completely restore the website to an earlier version I can't get it working again! I'm tired of this already!!!
Djdolphin (talk | contribs) 04:04, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm through with your "help". I can't keep restoring the website to a backup and redoing my hard work.

I will gladly do that. Pick an address:

JayceeMinecraft (talk | contribs) 18:32, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

What userspace means

Userspace means this: you can't edit other peoples' userpages. The only exceptions are these:

  1. If there is something inappropriate or disrespectful on a user page (in which case you should notify an admin)
  2. To add the {{NoRed}} on a non-existing userpage
  3. If it's a page where the owner says you can edit it

If it's not one of those cases, you are not allowed to edit the page. If you really think it needs to be edited, ask an admin or EW and we will tell you if it's ok. In the case of User:Phildude, you were not allowed to edit it because it was not one of the above conditions. The userpage was simply a message notifying users of an account switch. You erased that message and replaced it with {{NoRed}}. That is not one of the conditions above, so I reverted your edit. Please follow these rules when editing others' userpages. Thank you!
jvvg (talk | contribs) 14:38, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Identity crisis much? That was me who reverted it. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:42, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
If it's userspace, then whose is it? Don't say it belongs to -PRO-, because if they get two userspaces, I'd like two as well.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 14:55, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
It belongs to Phildude, who no longer has editing privileges.
What would you do with two userspaces?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:57, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
It does belong to -PRO-. Since -PRO- owned the old account, he/she has sole control over it. That point notwithstanding, it is not your userspace. Also, you actually do have two userspaces: Krett12 and Tweaker, the way I have jvvg and WikiMonitor. @Scimonster: I clicked revert and it said it worked, but the page history shows you are right. My bad.

ScratchR VM Image

Clicky! Please note that you need to let VirtualBox through your firewall where necessary (you will probably receive a notification). Login info and stuff can be found in the VM description. To access ScratchR, after booting up the VM, open your browser and go to http://localhost:8888/, and if the firewall settings are configured properly it should give you the home page. To make yourself an admin, go to phpMyAdmin, click on the "scratchr" table on the left, enter the users table (also on the left), find your username (there are a bunch of random users I already created there too), click "Edit" and change the "role" field to "admin" in the dropdown.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:00, 20 September 2014 (UTC) You will also need the following system specs:

  • At least 1 GB of RAM
  • A 64-bit CPU that supports hardware virtualization
  • 1 GB of free disk space
  • A network firewall that lets apps through it and a non-oppressive antivirus software (if you don't know what that means, you should be ok on this last one)
    jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:02, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Aww....I only have 32 bit.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:57, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Also, it does not recognize .ova files, and it won't let me have 1024 MB ram.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 03:21, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
That's unfortunate. If you have a more powerful computer with VirtualBox, you can try it there. In the meantime, I may distribute this to others.

My Wiki

How do I change the name of it to something other than "-PRO-'s Wiki"? ALso, how do I set the image? Thanks. I want to know other stuff to but I will wait for now.
-PRO- Logo2.png-PRO- (talk | contribs) 11:08, 20 September 2014 (UTC) Open up windows explorer and go to C:\xampp\htdocs\wiki and right click on a file that says "LocalSettings" on it. Have it open with notepad. The rest of the stuff should be pretty easy. Infact, if you want, you can change the logo path to "localhost/wiki/images/Wiki.png". Then upload a file on your wiki named "Wiki.png". If you have no idea what I'm saying, let me know.

Bot messages

Just to clarify, bot messages don't show up in RC only if they are specifically marked as bot edits. Regular edits by accounts in the bot usergroup still show up in RC.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:06, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

I wouldn't be sure about that--I'm pretty sure it tells via the usergroup. The bot usergroup is what marks them as bot edits (with the b)
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 15:57, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
Check out mediawikiwiki:API:Edit#Parameters. The bot one says "If set, mark the edit as bot; even if you are using a bot account the edits will not be marked unless you set this flag". Also, this will show up in RC normally.
WikiMonitor (talk | contribs) 17:08, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
They must have changed that in a later version. That didn't happen when I first created WM.
WikiMonitor (talk | contribs) 17:09, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
Nope! I didn't even know you posted that until I was looking at a special version of recent changes that has only bot edits.

Mass revert glitch

It's a good thing that glitch was given to a user who would become very active :P
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 22:28, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Um, kind of, yes. But 1) glitches aren't given, they happen. I'm not supposed to be able to do that. 2)I was already active :P 3)It's not a mass revert, it still only works on one page at a time, but "undo" does one edit at a time, and with three or four clicks. This does infact do all of the edits in just one (srsly, EVERYTHING on a wiki has a confirm page, not this!), but I still have to go through every page.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 13:22, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm the only one with the true mass revert tool. I can revert all recent edits by a given user in a few seconds with an API script. The rollback feature, as Krett says, only works on one page at a time.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 14:35, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, but he has some of the power. It's better that it went to him than one of the new users with a red contribs link. :P
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 14:37, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
jvvg (talk | contribs) 14:39, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
Oh, with a red contribs link!! BTW, I was thinking of editing your copy of ConfirmAccount. Instead of the user creating the account creating the user & talk pages, the user being created does it, to give them some contribs, to make the link be blue.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 14:42, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
You're the only one with your mass revert tool. Krett may have some tricks of their own.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 23:53, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── If you do have any good tools, please keep them to yourself. While I trust you with them (the way I trust you with mass revert, that's why I never bothered asking scmb1 to fix it), I would prefer it if they weren't publicly available, making mass vandalism easy.

Discussion on scmb1's profile

That discussion is meant to be only between existing admins and scmb1. Please do not jump in.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 00:32, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

I won't do that in the future but please think about what I said.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 00:53, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
I did, but here are my comments: 1. letting admins delete revisions the way I said will prevent problems like we had on the CP. It will also just save time in general. It's annoying to delete a page and restore it. However, since you argued that there is technically an existing alternative, that right might not be implemented anymore. Also, for bureaucrats, the whole point of separating bureaucrats and admins is so that it's less likely that someone will abuse it or inadvertently cause harm.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:10, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
I understand and sorry if you don't get your special revision deletion.

-PRO- Logo2.png-PRO- (talk | contribs) 11:33, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
I'm not sure why myself. I have a tool that uses the capslock key for accents, and it must have gotten stuck after I entered the title. Anyway, @OP, just email me the database and FTP details. You have my email from the AF wiki.

Response to edit

I noticed that you posted "When a page is made just for discussion, we do so on the page, not the talk page, according to Derpmeup." on the main pare for the community portal under the Scratch Wiki namespace. I created that page (Talk About Music) for the sole purpose of discussion.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 03:59, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Sorry about that edit!

I thought you said you were a EW candidate.
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 02:33, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

I think you are misunderstanding. The article is not just about the interviews, it is about Scratch's whole effect on the world, which is why it is going to keep that name. Do not go moving an article that someone (me) is working on when the article clearly has a header that says editing is in progress.
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 16:47, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

It doesn't have to start with the username, it just needs it somewhere in it so that people don't think it's generic or intended for use in articles.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:19, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Well I think it should have to, why doesn't it have to?
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:20, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
There's no reason it has to start with it. It's not namespace, it's just saying "Hey, this photo was uploaded for jvvg, so don't use it as an example in an article."

KrIsMa removed the Tweaker message, so please don't keep putting it back. Users are allowed to remove threads from their talk page, and putting it back unless the discussion is clearly not over is a userspace violation. In that case, there was already a discussion in another thread, and KrIsMa clearly indicated that the Tweaker message wasn't really necessary.

Do not remove others' talk messages

In revision 113093 of User talk:Bigpuppy, you removed another users' message. This is a violation of Wiki Guidelines. If it was an accidental rollback, please immediately undo your edits in the future if that happens again.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 18:58, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Srry, didn't know I'd rolled it back. Wasn't looking too closely at the page. Did you undo it for me or should I?
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 19:01, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
I already did. Anyway, as I said, be careful using rollback. Since you weren't selected as an EW, please don't use it at all unless it's clear vandalism. To rollback multiple edits, just edit the newest revision you want to keep.

WM takes 4 hours

It waits 4 hours before clearing the sandbox. It hadn't been that long yet, and I had to restart it anyway (which resets the timer).
jvvg (talk | contribs) 20:16, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

It was four hours by my clock.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 20:17, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
"I had to restart it anyway". Whenever I restart the script, it waits 4 hours since I last started it.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 20:23, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
But how am I supposed to know that? Since it was four hours I cleared it by myself.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 20:30, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, but your edit summary implied that WM was broken, which it wasn't.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 20:31, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
Did it? I didn't mean it to be. I think I said something about "wm coming around" - can't remember what it was exactly.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 02:03, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

You readded Djdolphin's talk page stuff right when I rolled back your edit.

derpmeup (talk | contribs) 00:45, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
What's even funner is that I was using undo and you were using rollback. So we submitted at the same time. BTW, I've never been rollback conflicted before, what's it say?
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 02:02, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
Are you sure about that? ;)
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 03:51, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
Oh, you're right! I thought that was ME conflicting YOU.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 11:03, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
Wait, the discussion said how could you do that, I never said you did :P
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 11:05, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
Yay, you are online. Can you help me make more templates and categories on my wiki?
JayceeMinecraft (talk | contribs) 11:09, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

New short way to say my name.

Instead of calling me Jaycee, you could call me JM.
JayceeMinecraft (talk | contribs) 11:48, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Rather than immediately reverting, explain why

If you think a userpage is breaking formatting but the page is still usable, please tell the user about it instead of just immediately reverting edits, as this is a violation of userspace.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 13:53, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Okay then. I thought that formatting was an exception to userspace and that talk pages weren't userspace. K.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 14:13, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
Formatting is only an exception if the mistake is so bad that the page doesn't work at all, and user talk pages are still considered userspace. You are only allowed to edit them to add/edit/remove your own messages.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 14:16, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Please be nice to new users

Saying "Please use my revision and leave it that, and I mean it.", as well as "it does have to stay that way." is unnecessarily rude to new users. Don't say something like "I'm right you're wrong", but instead something like "Please fix it because the formatting doesn't work right when you use L1 headers like that". Talking like that can discourage new users, and at a time when we're getting fairly few (because we're cracking down on S:CONTRIB reading), we should try to retain them as much as possible.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 14:28, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

If you look at my old messages, that really didn't happen to me. I was actually kind of scared of you.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 14:36, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
I seem to recall you were being kind of aggressive at first (e.g. saying WM was just a fake bot), and we were telling you to calm down. I also recall you criticized me for auto-creating your userpage and talk page. My responses were to explain what was going on. I also don't seem to recall I had the authoritative tone you expressed.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:40, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
On the second part you said he was criticizing you, but you are not a new user.

No, but I was explaining why my messages may have seemed harsh to him.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:47, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for accepting my account request.

However, you created my user page and talk page for me, which I was hoping to do myself. I also find it an invasion of privacy because it's against the Wiki community guidelines. I am not meaning to offend you in any way. However, I am request that you delete both my user and talk page.

– Me, back when I used to be shy

Criticism. Yeah how 'bout that. Forum Smiley - Rolleyes.png
Besides, I thought WM was fake because I didn't think this wiki had bots, I thought it was just LDSTech and The Infosphere.
Whenever I get more prv. I always get shy, it's how just I roll.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 15:49, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

LOL‎ and :( at the same time.
JayceeMinecraft (talk | contribs) 15:51, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
Well, saying "Stop pretending to be a bot, seriously who let that username on the Wiki" is not exactly the most polite way to say you didn't think there were bots.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:53, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── [[1]] is the discussion I am referring to. I also would like to point out that turning off bots when it specifically says not to is generally not acceptable, and you actually caused a pretty major disruption. As such, it was important that you understood not to do that.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:56, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Hey--my account was two days old. Besides, I was trying to leave it in the past, but that couldn't happen for some reason. Can we just let this go, try to avoid it in the future and move on? That's all I really want but I somehow can't get it.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 16:34, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
Ok. As long as you remain nice to new users (and older users) and keep assuming good faith, I will leave you alone.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 16:57, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
I have been assuming good faith.
