Hello Ken, just wondering about the testwiki, i have requested an account, and am wondering if i get accepted what does it take to get sysop rights? or is that something that takes a while, correct me if i am being annoying, kind regards,

Hello Kenny2scratch,
+
12:03, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
 +
:You're way ahead of yourself - at least according to your account request, you speak no languages other than English, and that's one of the crucial parts of editing an other language wiki. Becoming sysop (at least in my case), in particular on the test wiki, takes a general knack of international culture, and ideally a strong intuitive familiarity with MediaWiki.
 +
:Thanks for reminding me about the test wiki, though - I haven't checked it recently because I've been flattened by schoolwork. I appreciate your willingness to help, but at the moment it would seem you don't have the skills we're looking for (which, of course, is not to say that you can't acquire them!). 13:51, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

I was looking at your user page, and I thought it looked very professional. I was wondering if you could give me any tips or suggestions about how to organize my user page, or if you could let me know another place where I can find that information. I'm also curious about how to sign my username. I tried using the "Sign your username" wiki markup code, but I couldn't figure out how to use it.
+
::Ok Ken, understood, i will try to learn the necessary skills :) 14:41, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

I'm editing this message to ask another question. I'm really new to the Scratch Wiki (As you probably know) and I saw that there was a bullet point on your talk page that said: "For reference, revision 231783 was done by AdeptMind on 17/07/2019" I'm worried I accidentally edited your page. If you could let me know how this works, and if I'm doing it right, that would be great! Thanks, and sorry for all of the questions!

When to archive
-AdeptMind
+
Is there a certain size you would recommend archiving my page at? Or a certain amount of posts? 15:51, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
:Hi! Did you read the Welcome tutorial? One of the things it covers is how to use talk pages properly. In advance, though, you sign your name with four tildas (four of these: ~) at the end of the last line of your message.
+
:No, just archive whenever you feel like it. I personally go with 20 topics, but KrIsMa goes with 100 and you apparently go with 15 KB. You do you. 16:47, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
:I built up my userpage over months and eventually years. Under the surface, it's actually a hideous mess of styling and failed experiments (though I have attempted to refactor it before). I encourage you to learn some stuff about HTML, then try to recreate (or approximate, I wouldn't recommend going for a complete or accurate reformation) my userpage without looking at the source code; once you have done that, you can start thinking about how you want your page to look at a higher level without having to worry about the execution of the concept. TL, DR: Learn about HTML and figure things out - it's your page and I can't tell you how to make it.

:The "revision NUM was done by NAME on DD/MM/YYYY" is just something I have in there for fun - it uses the magic words REVISIONID, REVISIONUSER, REVISIONDAY, REVISIONMONTH, and REVISIONYEAR, all of which you can look up in the linked page. Also, talk pages are meant to be edited by others - it is only userpages where you are not allowed to edit others'. 22:40, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for all the help! I don't currently have time to learn HTML, but I'm going to be taking a programming class in school next year, so hopefully that will cover HTML, or at least help me learn fundamental skills that will help with HTML.

HI THERE! LONG TIME NO SEE (on wiki) :P<br/>
 +
一点儿 (BTW, i think), how did you figure out your milestones? <br/> 00:32, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
 +
:(一点儿, or 一點兒 in traditional, means "a little" - "by the way" is 順便說說, or 顺便说说 in simplified.)
 +
:I just keep track of them as they come up - Special:Editcount/Kenny2scratch lists individual edit counts for each namespace. Additionally, when I actually pass a milestone I don't usually hit it spot on, so I count back in my contribs to find the edit that actually pushed me over. 01:35, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
 +
::(My teacher told me that 一点儿 means "by the way" and "a little". Also, why does it have "说说" at the end of what you were taught. (Double "speak").)
 +
::(It looks like you do know simplified.....")
 +
::Oh, dang! I have to to count back 250+ edits then!! <br/> 03:41, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
 +
:::Ooh, there should be something in MediaWiki for this then.... <br/> 03:43, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
 +
:::Your teacher is mistaken, or they come from a part of China that has really weird customs. 一點兒 always means "a little" or "a little bit". 说说 is a shortening of 说一说, literally "say a say" but roughly meaning "mention".
 +
:::I don't know simplified - I used Google Translate from Chinese to traditional Chinese.
 +
:::Contributions are paginated, remember? "show at most n contributions" - choose 250, then go one page into "older 250" and count [your edit count] - 250 - [the milestone] edits down. 03:46, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
 +
::::Oof, I did think that 一点儿 did mean "by the way". Now I remember that 对了 means "BTW". Oops.
 +
::::It's 280+. Too much to count. Maybe I'll make a scraper to do it for me.. <br/> 22:34, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

Oh, I thought signing your username literally meant signing it XD. I was confused about if it would ask me to use my mouse to sign my name for each message, or if there was a place I could create a pre-made signature for each message, but now I know that's not what it means. Thanks!

<scratchsig>AdeptMind</scratchsig> 15:49, 18 July 2019 (UTC)

I see you added a warning area that tells all users they need to switch to ScratchWikiSkin temporarily if they're in the Vector one. I also want this, because my userpage in Vector is not so good looking as in ScratchWikiSkin. Could you please teach me how to do this? Thanks!<scratchsig>Nambaseking01</scratchsig> 19:58, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
: Hi! I don't want to interrupt but when posting we always indent one more than the other person (using <code>:</code>), and use outdent after 6 or 7 indents!
+
:You could copy it directly from my userpage content, giving credit in an HTML comment. 10:54, 15 November 2019 (UTC)
 +
::Okay, thanks! :) Just so you know though, I normally don't put my credits in comments - I put them all in bulk in a "Credits" section.<scratchsig>Nambaseking01</scratchsig> 10:06, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

I was scrolling through Recent Changes and I noticed that you blocked a user and then edited the logs so that it didn't show their name, block reason, etc.  I get why you censored that info for privacy, but what I don't understand is what's the purpose of having a block log if all it shows is (removed).  If you didn't want the info to display publicly, wouldn't it make more sense to make the page only viewable by bureaucrats and actually display the log information or simply delete the log page?<scratchsig>54329</scratchsig> 06:57, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
:This is indented slightly.
+
:What you're talking about is an impossibility. We have no way (besides modding MediaWiki core) of hiding block logs automatically, so we simply manually hide all block logs as soon as creating them.

So, about the grammar on the "need edited/ing", I've had issues with this before, when my friend told me it was wrong. I guess where I'm from the the "to be" is implied, e.g. "the dog needs fed" really means "the dog needs to be fed". My friend said it wasn't implied (I said something like "need punished"), so I was like "Haven't your parents ever said "the dog needs fed?" And some of my friends agreed with me, and she disagreed. I guess when it comes to talking, in casual conversation, it's implied to most people, but on the Wiki I should be more careful :P Plus, I guess you interpreted it as what I meant was "ing", but I saw that and was like "What? That isn't what I meant." If I had realized that I would have changed it to "need to be repositioned".

:Wait so what are you talking about?

:nvm 17:21, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
:Regardless, in standard English grammar, the only correct forms are "the dog needs to be fed" and "the dog needs feeding". "The dog needs fed" is simply invalid.

:But I need to know what the context is. 16:42, 27 July 2019 (UTC)

::Haha sorry, I meant the latest revision of this

::I didn't mean you were wrong to correct me, I knew that it was wrong once I saw your edit. I just felt like saying something about it since I've had an issue with it in the past. I know that it's wrong, it's just that I would have corrected it differently, and I thought it was kind of funny.

:::Ahh, it is all so clear now.

:::Interesting. I actually considered both corrections, but I went with the ed->ing change because a) I thought that that was what you meant to say and b) ed->ing made for a shorter sentence than ed->to be ed.

Did I make the right decision?
Hey, could you please look at this request? I was really, really, really, really hard-pressed on this one, and I feel bad rejecting it as they had all the right parts, but were not specific enough and did not use complete sentences. Would you mind looking at it, and if you think differently than I do, possibly change it (as I trust your opinion more than mine)? Again, it was really hard for me to make this decision. Thanks (I hope it's okay that I'm posting this on your talk page). :)<br/> 17:49, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

:Heh, I saw that one and left it for later because it was hard for me as well. It's easier to justify a decision in retrospect than it is before making it, so thank you for making that decision :)

:I think that was the right thing to do because:

:# It's not clear enough what each flaw is correcting (e.g. "the", but what was the original spelling?)

:# (Incorrectly) Linking to the Vector Graphics page doesn't tell us the intent - did they mean to add some info from that page? or add a link to that page? or...?

:And in general as you said it wasn't specific enough and didn't use complete sentences.
