Is the CSS on the Wiki different to normal CSS in any way? I know a little CSS so I though I would decorate my userpage, but I didnt know if it was different on here. Thanks! <scratchsig>Bananaandchoc1</scratchsig> 19:39, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

Personally I think that you should add in the <nowiki><!----text----!> (not sure what they're called :P)</nowiki> that the user is free to look at the page source. It's fine if you don't want to, I just didn't add it in because I'd be breaking userspace rules.<scratchsig>Garnetluvcookie</scratchsig> 18:48, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
:Well, we don't use CSS (in the normal way, at least). Here's an example of how you would style text:

:Hello! Welcome to the wiki, we're happy to have you here! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're talking about whether it's okay to leave messages that are not related to editing the wiki, right? :Alright, I'll check it out soon. As for why I want it substituted, it's so that if the template changes over time, previous substitutions will stay the same.<br/>{{User:Bigpuppy/Real Signature}} 21:05, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

::I find it interesting how on the Scratch Wiki we tend to have a bias towards transcluding talk page templates, whereas on Wikipedia it's the opposite (there tends to be a bias towards substituting them). At least, that's what I've observed from my time on both sites.<br/>{{User:Bigpuppy/Real Signature}} 21:14, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

:::...not that there aren't upsides and downsides to both, but on here almost everyone transcludes, for example, welcome templates, whereas a lot of templates are supposed to be substituted on Wikipedia.<br/>{{User:Bigpuppy/Real Signature}} 21:17, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

== As an admin ==
 +

 +
Hi and congratulations on your promotion! I'm here to give you a sort-of introduction to the admin role.
 +

 +
=== Your new permissions ===
 +
[[Special:ListGroupRights#sysop|These]] are permissions you now have. A lot of them are irrelevant to this wiki because we don't use the features that entail them, but admins have them because those permissions are granted to sysops (underlying technical name for admins, in case you didn't know) by default. Instead I'll go over the ones I can think of off the top of my head that are useful, and/or the ones we actually use here.
 +
* <code>protect</code>: This is the most significant one here, I think. You can now protect pages by choosing "Protect" from the pencil menu. (No more asking someone to protect your archives - you are the someone!) Our protection levels are:
 +
** (none): All users can edit.
 +
** <code>autoconfirmed</code>: All users can edit, but they get a big banner saying "you are editing a protected page" that can be indimidating and might make them consider their edits more carefully.
 +
** <code>wikian</code>: All [[S:WIKIAN|Wikians]] can edit. This is most users, but some are in fact restricted. Used on guidelines pages and their kin.
 +
** <code>botplus</code>: Bots, EWs, and admins can edit. Used on pages that should really be protected at EWplus but also need bots to update them regularly, like [[S:NEWS]].
 +
** <code>EWplus</code>: Only EWs and admins can edit. This is the level we use most often - used for talk page and [[S:TT]] archives.
 +
** <code>sysop</code>: Only admins can edit. This is the level you have recently accessed - used for very high traffic pages such as the main page, its redirects, most of its transclusions, and some high-use templates. (Also apparently used for old talk page archives, probably before EWplus was introduced.) (The permission that allows you to edit this is <code>editprotected</code>.)
 +
* <code>editinterface</code>: You can now edit [[Special:AllMessages|pages in the MediaWiki: namespace]]. These pages control the text in the actual wiki interface - for example, the text of the "save changes" button is controlled by [[MediaWiki:Savechanges]]. You can find out what pages control what text on a certain page by adding the query parameter <code>uselang=qqx</code> to the page URL.
 +
* <code>abusefilter-</code>*: You can now edit [[Special:AbuseFilter]]&zwj;s, which among other things include the bad word filter. Be very careful with these, because a wrong move can lock even admins out of doing something. Jvvg and I know the most about these.
 +
* <code>undelete</code>: You can now restore pages. This is seldom used but it has come in useful at times.
 +
* <code>deleterevision</code>, <code>deletelogentry</code>: You can now hide (and unhide) specific revisions of a page, without deleting the entire page. You can also do the same for [[Special:Log]] entries. This is mostly used for hiding personal information, but has sometimes been used for vandalism as well. (No need to ask someone to do this anymore!)
 +
* <code>deletedhistory</code>, <code>deletedtext</code>: You can now see all deleted revisions as if they were still there.
 +
Basically, a lot fewer permissions are withheld from you now.
 +

 +
=== Permissions still withheld ===
 +
Here's a few that remain reserved for bureaucrats, though. I mention these only because they actually are given to admins by default, but are not on this wiki.
 +
* <code>block</code>: Self-explanatory. Used for vandalism and occasionally for accidentally-created accounts.
 +
* <code>checkuser</code>, <code>checkuser-log</code>: View IP addresses and other information about an account. Used for alt detection.
 +
* <code>editaccount</code>: Set users' email addresses, passwords, and real names. This is what I have been using to handle account request troubles.
 +

 +
=== Invitation ===
 +
Alright, I know I've asked you this before, but this time I have to be a little more demanding than before. Please join our Discord server - you're an admin now, and a lot of our admin coordination (including the discussion that got you promoted) happens there. You'll miss out on a lot of things (many of which would probably need your opinion) if you're not there. I've left my details in [{{fullurl:Special:Undelete|target=User:Kenny2scratch/For_Admins&timestamp=20200803112217}} a deleted page] so that only admins (including you now!) can see it. Since you became an admin (Congrats!), you haven't updated your user page to show that. "I'm an Experienced Wikian here, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!" should be "I'm an admin here, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!". (Also, I know my custom sig is a bit lower than usual. I'm fixing it once I submit. Or it's not :P)

Bigpuppy is still an Experienced Wikian, so the statement is still true. Bigpuppy became an admin, but also he is still an EW - because of the elections.
