Different Colors

I think that there should be different colors. The current color seems too bright.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 15:02, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

What colors do you have in mind?
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:37, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
Maybe a light blue, like how PrincessPandaLover has it on their version.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 15:54, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
1. How does it? 2. I have an idea...
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 16:28, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
I personally think that a light blue design would work well. Let's see what everyone else thinks.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 21:10, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
I think that a light blue would be better.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 22:02, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
I edited it, what does everybody else say? What about a different colour?
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 15:05, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────It looks good now!
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 20:59, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

I also think that the text that are not links should be normal because the color of the text now might confuse users on which ones are links and which ones are normal.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 21:49, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
It's actually okay. the colour's slightly different from the text.
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 06:50, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
Some users might not notice the difference. The colors have a very little difference.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 23:14, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
Um, no they don't. If you really wanted, I could change the colour scheme again.
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 06:54, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
I think that the text should be normal text.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 23:36, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Why? It's fine as it is.
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 07:20, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

Some users might get confused which text are links and which ones are normal. I think only the text should be normal.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 20:47, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
How? Blue text is different to hyperlinks. Hyperlinks are clickable, whereas blue text isn't
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 18:25, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
The reason why links should be a different color then the normal text is so that you don't have to hover your mouse over every single word to figure out if its a link. Different colors are a visual cue that yes, indeed, this is a link. The same goes with underlines.
Having at least underlines on the links would be helpful. Changing the colors of the links would be nice too.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 18:34, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
I think that the text should be normal.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 21:45, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
I want it to be blue with normal text.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 14:37, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
It's okay as it is.
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 18:23, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Not in my opinion. Other users might not like it.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 20:04, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

How? btw, let's not all get in a giant flame war.
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 20:29, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
They might not like the colors. I want it to be blue with normal text.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 21:57, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
1. Why? On {{Delete}}, it's a colour and people may not like it, but they don't care. 2. Not to be rude, but you can't have everything in life. I like that colour because it's dark and is close to Giga's colour
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 11:53, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
The color for the delete template is okay. It makes sense for it. But for this one, it doesn't matter. I also think that the colors should have a bigger chance of being liked by both genders. I don't know if girls would like the current color. Also I don't think the extend content is needed. This section doesn't seem big enough for it.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 14:27, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
1. Does that really matter? 2. It does.
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 16:40, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
1. It does matter. It should be that it's good for only one gender. It should be good for both genders. 2. It is not needed. It wastes time.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 20:35, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Um. No it doesn't. It's okay for both genders and if it was blue, it would be only for male.
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 07:19, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

I don't know if girls would like the current color.[citation needed]
Also, the welcome document is already short and precise as is. Making it shorter at this point seems like it would be counterproductive to giving new Wikians a guide to the Wiki.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 12:32, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
Blue can be for boys and girls and the orange would only be good for boys. It should be good for both genders. I don't think the extend content thing is needed.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 20:48, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
Why don't you think the extended content is need?
Also, how is it that orange is only good for boys?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 22:20, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
I feel like color should be the last thing that should be discussed. But, I don't agree that the color choice should be chosen from gender biases.
Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 03:20, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
The extend content wastes time. I don't think a girl would like the orange. Also the orange is too bright.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 21:36, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
Stop with the color and gender debate. That would be pretty stereotypical to say that a "gender doesn't like that color", we don't want any gender stereotypes here. Let's pick out a color that seems friendly, such as green, gold, or blue, instead of basing on gender.
PPL Icon.gif ♥PrincessPandaLover Talk | Contributions | Scratch Account 22:45, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I agree with PPL here. I personally think blue works well, as that's the same color used for much of the rest of the site, making it look more natural. Also, the Scratch Wiki is an inclusive environment and we should try to refrain from buying into (false) gender stereotypes and not judge people or their preferences based on their gender.

the box cuts out of the page now

the box cuts out of the page now - i'm using chrome so please decrease the padding. also, the hyperlinks aren't another color. here's what I see: [1].

Underlined Links

In history, I noticed that my underline change was reverted. This was because "The hyperlink colour and the text colour are different" On my end, all of the text is blue, and I cannot differentiate between the two. How are the colors different?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 00:34, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

One colour's darker than the other.
Banana439monkey.png banana439monkey (Talk | Contribs | Scratch | Edits (3,388)) 14:56, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
When I color picked the colors of the text, I got 83-89% brightness for the link text, and 87-93% for the normal text. (That is, using the HSB color scale.) That is not visibly darker.
As an example, by only altering the text in Template:Welcome, I created this:

ErnieParke Double W.png

One W is a link, the other is not. Which is the link? It's really hard to tell without a color picker.

ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 15:21, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
I'll change the link colours.

Use SVG File?

How about using a version of the file in SVG? Maybe a re-upload of the one on the French Wiki? I just want to see what everyone thinks. For reference, the French Wiki file can be found here and the full welcome template here.
UserIconAdzboy.png AdzboyTalkContributionsScratch Profile 20:16, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

An SVG file would look better than a PNG file, so I agree.

I've uploaded the image to this Wiki. You can find the file here.

I've changed the template. Please state any objections here.

I fixed the size of the image so it looks almost exactly the same as the old version.

Gobo looks more like the actual Gobo sprite in the SVG (and I'd hazard a guess that that's because it was ripped from the official sprite), so I'd say this is a net gain.
Next time, though, either request comment or just do it, not both - it seems kind of disingenuous to ask "is this okay?" and then pivot to "please state objections to the thing I've already done".
