Revision as of 23:18, 4 October 2014 by ErnieParke (talk | contribs) (→‎Tweaker Incorrectly Counting: Reply to derpmeup.)

I just had an idea...

(Sorry this couldn't have been done by email.)

How about, instead of only having five or six wikians running in the election, we have everybody run but only 5 or 6 choices are made per person? The Borda system will still work; the first choice will get 6 points, etc.
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 00:19, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Well, I was going by the main site strategy. The election would be a bit too chaotic if people had to read ten speeches.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 00:30, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
jvvg - good point. i can't read 10 speeches (too long and i probably would not read a bunch of them because of the amount of speeches)
KrIsMa Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 00:50, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I can tell you I wouldn't have read all of speeches last election if there were more. That gives an unfair advantage to whoever gets put at the top of the list.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:06, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
maybe shortest on the top?
KrIsMa Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 01:15, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
actually i think its ok the biggest speech (mathfreak231) was second to last
KrIsMa Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 01:20, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
Still, even if the speeches are only a few lines, nobody will read ten of them, and I think ten people nominated themselves.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:24, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────I like the current idea, if we use that, there could be up to 20 submitted speeches here.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 20:16, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

I think the voters want to put a lot of thought into the election and wouldn't mind having to sort through 10-20 seven-line speeches if they really wanted to choose the best of the best.
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 12:46, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
This may sound kinda mean, but require them to read all ten?
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 13:13, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
That means reading 70+ lines (84 if we include all 12 nominees and each writes 7 lines). That's a lot of reading. If we end up doing this, we need to require the speeches to be shorter (like 3 or 4 lines).
jvvg (talk | contribs) 14:54, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
I think having everyone run is too much to read, as people have said.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:16, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I didn't really like this idea from the start.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 18:55, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Candidates List

When will it be released, October 1st?
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 23:31, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

September is only 30 days... It will either be released later in the day tomorrow or on October 1.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 23:34, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Oh, haha, I forgot that. xD For some reason, I thought September had 31 days for a sec :P
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 23:35, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
oh yeah, me too
KrIsMa Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 01:54, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

WHAT THE HECK?

I AM NOT ONE TO USE ALL CAPS--BUT I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. EITHER THERE IS SOME KIND OF MISTAKE OR YOU THINK THIS IS FAIR! If this is just a mistake, then I understand that--I can be placed on the list. IF YOU ACTUALLY DID THIS, THEN YOU ARE JUST OVERLOOKING ALL THE WORK I HAVE DONE! YOU JUST DON'T NEED IT, DO YOU? I GUESS I AM JUST WASTING MY TIME HERE THEN? WHEN I "CAME BACK" FROM QUITTING, I WAS JUST CURIOUS TO SEE IF I'D BE IN THIS ELECTION!. So I think you know what I will do now, I am not trying to be rude, but this seriously hurts my feelings that you don't think I could even be an EW. SO IF YOU DON'T WANT ME TO LEAVE, YOU'D BETTER TALK FAST!
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 00:18, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

They did say there would only be 6 candidates. And, just a question - what work did you exactly do for the Wiki besides the April Fools Wiki?
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 00:24, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Talk about overreacting... No offense, Krett.
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 00:25, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Yeah. Do you really need more power to have fun with the Wiki?
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 00:26, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Also, if you're not on there, they might have had a reason.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 00:26, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I'LL HAVE TO ASK JVVG HOW MUCH INFORMATION I CAN SHARE WITH YOU! Oh, you're right in front of me? Then why were you yelling? :P
Mathfreak231 (talk | contribs) 00:28, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Krett the Wiki is not about power. That's what we have politics for.
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 00:30, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Krett is not a wiki, @Turkey3 :P
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 00:32, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
xD!!! That's what we have politics for, LOL‎
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 00:32, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
krett the wiki??? and @krett12 we dont want you to leave, but this was a vote between admins, and they voted on people. i am really sorry you could not get in (because i experienced that a lot too)
KrIsMa Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 00:36, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I don't remember exactly (it's buried under a lot of emails), but I'm pretty sure I said we were keeping the election discussion private and others agreed to it. All I can say is that everybody on the CP list was considered and discussed. Anyway, let me leave with this statement: if your happiness on the Wiki is dependent on you having power, then it is probably not the place for you. The privilege that is the most important on the Wiki is simply being able to edit at all. Since the Wiki is a collection of pages about articles of Scratch, being able to edit them is the whole point of being a contributor. The EW and admin privileges are just nice to have. All they really do is enable you to help other users out with some technical issues. Deleting pages, despite what it may appear, is not really that gratifying. Editing pages is much more gratifying. Reviewing account requests is actually more depressing than gratifying. I am just going through request after request of people who just want to post violations of S:NOSP and only the occasional request that even bothered to read S:CONTRIB. What makes me happy here is improving articles, and that should be what makes everyone else here happy.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 00:52, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I was waiting for an EW/admin to say that.
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 00:56, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
SSS, YOU CAN CHECK THE PAGE HISTORY. Derpmeup, you are a bit more reasonable, so I will be calm too, the point isn't to be fun, I don't want to have fun and not be useful, it is work.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:16, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
FOUR EDIT CONFLICTS! THIS IS NOT HELPING MY MOOD. I MAY SOMETIMES BE SHY, BUT DO NOT PUSH ME!
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:16, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Just editing makes you useful ;)
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 01:17, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
The point I was making with that mega-wall of text can be summarized with derpmeup's message. The thing we appreciate most is useful edits to articles. You may notice that I mostly do Wiki administration stuff, but whenever I do make a mainspace edit, I take pride in it. That's really what I'm here for, and it's definitely what I enjoy most.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:19, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Exactly! Also, kinda offtopic, but - my speech was about 10 lines instead of 8, is that ok? I just had a lot to fit in it.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 01:20, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Well, either they looked at my edits or they are putting no thought into this election, that is what I say. I am going to do something here that shows how you make me feel. The emptier the bar is, the more likely I will leave. If it is ever empty, I have quit.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:21, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
AND ANOTHER EDIT CONFLICT!
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:21, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
AND TWO MORE EDIT CONFLICTS! ARGH!
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:21, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
You don't need to leave over not getting a bit of extra power. :/
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 01:23, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Saying we put no thought into this election is a pretty serious accusation. We actually put a lot of thought into the list of candidates. We chose based on history of productive editing, our view of their understanding/application of Wiki policies, and behavior. In fact, the email chain we used to discuss the election is 37 messages (41 if you count the original conversation I had with Sci). Anyway, my point is that candidates weren't chosen arbitrarily or out of personal preference.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:26, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

For what it's worth, the only arbitrarily chosen list of candidates is the list I put in the sample table to explain borda count. I just picked the existing admins and the first two ST members that I could think of.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:28, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
If I joined yesterday, maybe. AND I DON'T CARE THAT THIS ISN'T HELPING MY CHANCES, I WILL BE AS LOUD AS I WANT. I AM NOT SURE ABOUT GETTING IT, BUT IT IS VERY OBVIOUS THAT I HAVE PUT IN A LOT MORE WORK THAN THE REST OF THE PEOPLE RUNNING. IF YOU WERE ON A WIKI MONTHS, ALMOST HALF A YEAR BEFORE SOMEBODY ELSE, AND THEN THEY JUST BECAME AN EW BEFORE YOU, WOULD YOU LIKE THAT? WOULD YOU THINK THAT WAS FAIR? WOULD YOU. MAYBE I WILL LEAVE, AND I BETTER NOT GET AN EDIT CONFLICT THIS TIME!!!
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:30, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
JVVG? WHY? I SERIOUSLY DO NOT LIKE YOU RIGHT NOW, AND IT MAY BE DIFFICULT FOR ME TO CHANGE MY MIND.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:30, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I don't mean to debunk - but is this the reason why the admins didn't pick you, because of this? That's quite harsh and I surely was surprised upon seeing this!
KrIsMa Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 01:32, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Remember that the volume of edits and seniority are not the only things we consider from users. We want users who will use the tools properly, so the most important thing is applying Wiki guidelines properly in situations. Those users will be the best ones for deleting pages and confirming accounts. We did not think you met the criteria, and you have to respect that. While you may disagree with us, you still need to respect the decision.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:40, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
SOMEONE CANNOT LEAVE AND NOT RESPECT SOMETHING BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT BE THERE, DUH! I DON'T CARE IF YOU EVER PICK ME, IF THIS CONTINUES I WILL LEAVE, AND I AM NOT JOKING!
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:42, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
If you can't come to respect the decision we made for candidates, then maybe the Wiki is not the right place for you. I have said this many times, and I will say it again: the Wiki only works if we can all respect each other. This includes respecting each others' decisions, including admin decisions. There was a process that everybody agreed to before the election, and these are the results.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 01:46, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
You said you put in more work than all of the other candidates, do you see my activity here...?
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 02:12, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Part of the reason why I am inclined to leave is that not one single person sided with me. And I thought I had friendsA real friend might ask me to calm down, but they don't reject me like this. I do not have very much patience left, so PLEASE AVOID ME!!
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 02:24, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Oh my god! I don't believe it! I WAS NOT EDIT CONFLICTED! YAY! I still strongly dislike a lot of you; but this does change my mood a bit.
-unsigned comment by Krett12 (talk | contribs) 02:26, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I honestly kinda agree with KrIsMa right now - Experienced Wikians should have good judgement and be nice, and maybe the reason you were not put into the candidates list is because of your strong and slightly harsh personality. This actually isn't the only time I've seen you lash out on users.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 02:30, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── LASH OUT? I MAY BE CALM LATER, BUT I AM VERY TICKED OFF RIGHT NOW. NOT BEING ON THE LIST WAS ONE THING---BUT YOU ALL HAVE TURNED THIS INTO MUCH MORE.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 03:26, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Maybe I am overreacting a little, but COME ON.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 03:29, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Whoa! Krett, you really need to settle down. The wiki works because wikians work together and discuss differences respectfully. Furthermore, being an editor on the Scratch wiki is a privilege-- which means that not everyone gets it. Right now, you're not really showing upstanding wikian behavior. If you have a problem with the election process, please ask nicely. And, never fear, I'm sure there will be another election sometime in the future.
Scmb1 (talk | contribs) 03:31, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I AM TRYING TO CALM DOWN--BUT IT IS A LOT MORE DIFFICULT THAN IT MAY SEEM LIKE. SORRY, BUT THIS IS TRUE. i started by physically removing the shift and caps lock keys from my keyboard. does this sound okay/ unfortunately, i cannot sign now, because i cannot do tildaes. and about, the election, maybe there will be another, in the next year

--my comment by krett12

You actually broke your keyboard over this? O_o

i have to. seriously. not lying. good thing i have no-bots so i don't get reprimanded for not properly signing my post. --krett12

Wow. Krett, please, calm down. Take a step back. If it was a different person who nominated themselves and didn't make it, and they reacted like this, would you support them to be an EW?
Also, you can sign using the edittools available above and below the edit box. Or you can just copy a tilde from here: ~
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:11, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
would do the exact same thing that wished that everyone else would do. ask me to calm down a little, but actually be supportive. Not one person said I had a single good edit (except for those fake comments on the cp). no. not one. besides, i need one person to ask me to calm down, I didn't say anything about five. no search the page for that. oh, you got no hits? that makes sense. so if you are doing this, then you must think i am joking. well, then, maybe i will leave the wiki for a few days. bye. --krett12
My question was, would you think that person is a good candidate for EW?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:54, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
@Krett12 Are you talking about my edit about that I was stating "I was the first to make a speech" but I deleted it because I thought it was rude?
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 11:32, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
...I think you just messed that up, look at your post. It has an uppercase n. Please explain to me how you had that uppercase n.

Admins voting

User talk:jvvg#Thanks -- jvvg raised the question of whether admins should vote. I don't see why not. After all, we're the ones who are going to be training the new EW(s), and working with them. What do you say, jvvg?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:26, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

I suppose so.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 11:04, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Hm...

I think I know which two people will be turning EW in the end, and not one of them is me.
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 11:56, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Don't be so sure. This is an election, so it's all about what the community decides.

KrIsMa=33
Turkey3=24
-PRO-=18
Derpmeup=15
Swampert11=12
SuperSmashScratch=12

However since they are both in last place I don't think it'll matter that much.

Tiebreaker?

How would we break ties if one happens for second/third place? We could do one of the following:

  • Run-off
  • Admins pick one
  • Only #1 becomes an EW
  • All 3 become EWs
    jvvg (talk | contribs) 18:30, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Is what you mean by "run-off" that we have a mini-election, but only for those two?
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 18:36, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Yeah.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 18:37, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
A run-off election would not do because in theory it would only turn out to be another tie assuming the same exact people vote. Me and Derpmeup are tied right now for 58 points I realize. I think someone else will vote though and the tiebreaker will not be needed, but I think a better system than a second vote is needed because in mathematical theory it'd turn out the same in a tie.

Djdolphin (talk | contribs) 19:21, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Maybe only 1 becomes an EW?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:42, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Certainly better than having 3 that is. I think we could rule out some things:
  • Run-off
  • Admins pick one
  • Only #1 becomes an EW
  • All 3 become EWs
    Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 19:52, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
I think all 3 get to be EW's because it looks like they all deserve it if they tie. I understand this leaves 4 EW's.

Tweaker Incorrectly Counting

When I last checked, this is what I got:
KrIsMa: 85 points
Turkey3: 72 points
Derpmeup: 73 points
-PRO-: 52 points
SSS: 35 points
Swampert11: 33 points

Tweaker has:
KrIsMa has 80 points
Turkey3 has 68 points
Derpmeup has 68 points
-PRO- has 59 points
SuperSmashScratch has 33 points
Swampert11 has 32 points

For example, KrIsMa, from top to down, has:
6, 6, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 5, 6, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 1
The wiki says that adds up to: 85
Tweaker says that adds up to: 80
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 23:07, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

That's exactly what I was thinking. But, -PRO- actually has 53, for some reason LegendaryCowMaster left his last spot blank where -PRO- would be.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 23:10, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes, that is odd. Should we add in -PRO- for LegendaryCowMaster?
