New page for intro/outro

I think this is a big thing right know so should we have a main space article about intros/outros on one page or on two pages? Also will anyone help we write it?

It should be a single article called "Intros and Outros." "Intro" and "Outro" should redirect to it.
Millie S.jpeg Millie S (talk|961 contribs|directory) 17:08, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
I think a single article, to which the searches "Intro" and "Outro" direct to, would be good. It would be useful to Scratchers who don't know what they are and might try to search for one or the other but want to know about both.

English Scratch Club

No Not done

The Scratch club is a weekly meeting among a group of Scratchers which are contributing actively to the Scratch Wiki and to Scratch in general. The meetings are used to discuss important issues, most notable was the discussion if the transition of the english Wiki should take place. Currently, the weekly meetings are held in German, but we used to have an international Scratch club following after the German one. An alternative could be to make it alternating every week between German and English. As a start, who of the English and international Wiki administrators would be interested in it and able to join? And what would be better: weekly every Monday at 9:00 PM CET or bi-weekly at 8:00 PM? Once I get a tendency about the if and when, I will bring it up at the next German Scratch club, perhaps already next Monday.

NYCDOT (talk | contribs) 22:14, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
I would definitely like to join, but neither 8 or 9 PM CET work for me - I'm in Hong Kong, and 8PM CET is 3AM HKT... Best would be on weekends, since everyone's time is likely to be more flexible - on weekdays, we have work and school, but on weekends times that would normally be during work/school are usually ok. Would 2PM CET on Saturdays (or Sundays) be workable?

Neither 8 or 9 PM CET work for me either, as they are 12 and 1 PM, which is in the middle of the school day, and I am busy on the weekends at that time. How about an "always open" meeting where you can post anytime?

Not Done

No Not done

I know someone already brought it up...
Anyways, Not Done is not getting any attention. I know that Kenny2scratch already added β€œThings To Do” on the left sidebar, and the TOC of Not Done, yet no one seems to notice it. I think that we should release an announcement to all existing editors about ND, and all incoming users about ND on their welcome page. In fact, I’m going to add that to my welcome right now.
Any thoughts?

Suggestion: Scratch Wiki:Featured Image Suggestions

It's as it says on the tin.

As part of this new revival of featured images (and leading on from #An Interval for Featured Images, I propose that we create a page similar in concept to S:WWS, where users leave new section saying which image they think deserve to be featured. This will clean up the CP (just slightly). At around the same time as Wiki Wednesday, the EWs/Bureaucrats review the suggestions and pick three images which will then to onto S:FI. If necessary, we could also edit the current Wiki Wednesday suggestion forum post to incorporate Featured Images too.

What do you think?

I think the featured images are too minor to have a dedicated projectspace page. I propose instead to have a miscellaneous "homepage tasks" page (or something like that) where you can suggest news items, featured images, and edits to other things that appear on the homepage. Does that sound better?

If they had to filter through edits and news items to find featured images, wouldn't it be harder for the admins? Also, having a dedicated project space is better because it's a) more obvious to Wiki Editors what the page is for, and seems less boring and gruelling than "homepage tasks", which sounds like just a big long list of stuff to do. And b) it would be easier for editors to suggest, because having a clearer Featured Image Suggestions would be more obvious to others what has already been suggested and what hasn't, et cetera. And c) having a dedicated page would make it so much easier to implement into the current WW forum post.
border=3px Drunken Sailor [ Talk | Contribs | More... ] 08:49, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

We could have Scratch Wiki:Homepage Tasks and have there be a section for featured images, news things, and any other sections that may be needed. Then it wouldn't be as messy (if there were sections). Then we could make a shortcut called S:FEATUREDIMAGESUGGESTIONS (although that's a pretty long "shortcut") and have it redirect to Scratch Wiki:Homepage Tasks#Featured Image Suggestions. Or we could have Scratch Wiki:Featured Image Suggestions redirect to Scratch Wiki:Homepage Tasks#Featured Image Suggestions. :)
Bigpuppy Logo.png bigpuppy talk | contribs 15:32, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
If we're talking about shortcuts, how about S:FIS, since S:FI redirects to the featured images?

Server Capacity

About two weeks ago, I could not access scratch-wiki.info for 24 hours. My internet connection was fine; the website just took too long to respond.

Today, when trying to view /Archive 66, I got a 503 Service Unavailable error. I reloaded the page and it worked. However, page load times are still a bit long. Occasionally, after about 50 page loads, the page load times start to get really long, up to ten seconds.

Does MartinWollenweber's server have enough capacity?

Add Siggy Warner to MediaWiki:Common.js

So for those who don't know what Siggy Warner is, it's basically a JavaScript thing that pops up a confirmation box when you forget to sign, as well as adding a notice to previews when you don't sign. You can still deliberately omit the signature by either checking the "minor edit" box or typing "CONFIRM" when prompted.

Since forgetting to sign your post is one of the most common mistakes, I propose that instead of people opting into using my siggy warner, we add it to MediaWiki:Common.js as something that is loaded for all users. I think my siggy warner has reached a development status where it's ready to be included for everyone.

Potentially there could be a way to opt out of it, too - maybe by loading a user JS file that counteracts the effects of Siggy Warner.

What do you think about adding Siggy Warner to common.js?

@D_S: You are too late to say so - ScratchWikiSkin2 and Report Extension are user-generated. (you called Ken's Siggy Warner "user-generated", so these are also "user-generated".) Do you have any other reason?
Logo of Apple502j.jpg Apple502j Talk/Activities 1,964edit 13:45, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
Plenty of things that the Wiki itself relies on started off as user-generated things. This would be no exception. As apple rightfully points out, SWS2 and the Report extension are technically user-generated, as are WikiMonitor, TemplatesFTW, and other major parts. The only difference is that the "major" parts have been approved by the community to be a part of the Wiki itself and no longer counted as user-generated. By posting this, I am requesting that the community decide whether this should be moved into the main codebase and no longer simply a user-created script.

Jakel181 (talk | contribs) 16:10, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
(this indentation indicates a reply to @D_S) jvvg also noticed that I'm slowly integrating more WM functions into the core. He's fine with it, though, since it would be less for him to maintain. Actually, WM doesn't need to check file categories anymore, either - an abuse filter prevents file uploads without categories. But WM isn't anywhere near out of a job yet - it has curator updating and rapid edit detection, neither of which we can do regularly.
(this indentation indicates a reply to @asqwde) Why do you not support this, though?

New page for mall simulators

No Not done

Should we make a new page for mall simulators? Mall simulators are sort of big with the biggest mall simulator (Palace of Points) having more than 1400 members. Should we create a page for it?
Sti_scratch (talk | contribs) 04:55, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

Maybe not as a whole page, but as a section in Simulation Projects?
Bigpuppy Logo.png bigpuppy talk | contribs 16:11, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
Mall simulators, let me explain, are studios where people can register and make projects and add them to the studio. These projects are shops, where people (that are registered in a mall simulator the shop is added in) can buy from. Mall simulators invent their own currency, not tradeable for real money, that is used within the mall simulator itself. So, I don't really think it would fit there since it's technically not a project.
Sti_scratch (talk | contribs) 08:54, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
That's a new kind of shop. Actually, there is no article to write about it, I think.
Logo of Apple502j.jpg Apple502j Talk/Activities 1,964edit 12:56, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, it means that we have to create two pages. for the shops and the sim itself.

3.0 Release: 2.0 "Archiving"

Hi everyone, just wanted to say - Scratch 3 gets released very soon, so that means that we need to make sure everything about 2.0 has been "archived" on the wiki. Are there any pages that need more info to do with 2.0? (e.g images?) Because after about a month, there won't be a chance to screenshot parts of the website etc.

EDIT: We'll also need to start a page on the development of Scratch 3.0 before the chance to screenshot parts of the beta is gone.
Redglitter Profile Picture Mini.gif Redglitter (Talk ~ Contributions ~ 494 edits) 16:08, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

I agree, we should have a 2.0 archive in some shape or form. Though we can still get most 2.0 editor images relatively easily because the offline editor is still available to be downloaded.
Jakel181 (talk | contribs) 22:33, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

So, I was looking at my contributions and I found that many of the contribs I did were on pages with the User: namespace or the User talk: namespace. I feel that this wouldn't show our contributions to the Wiki. Is there any ways to change this? Or is it from the mw software?

Everything you wanted to know about Snap!...

Yes Done

but never dared to ask, now it's your chance to directly talk to Brian Harvey, one of the developers of Snap!, from Uni Berkeley at the next Scratch Club. If you are interested in joining the Scratch Club (via Google hangout, you need to be 18+ or have your parent's consent) please contact us here. The next Scratch Club with Brian Harvey as guest will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at 20:00 CET and will be held in English. If you cannot join, you can also post some questions to discuss here.
Frodewin (talk | contribs) 11:42, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

8pm CET is 3am HKT... I really want to join, but I'm likely not going to be able to. I'll leave questions here.
  • Snap! is too complicated for the age range of the vast majority of Scratchers, but for older ones like myself and many people here it's just right. Do you forsee Snap! being a teaching tool for teens the same way Scratch is for kids?
  • Scratch 3.0 is being released soon, and with it a cleaner and improved user interface design. Do you think an update to Snap! to mimic the new 3.0 design would be a good idea? (Minus the annoying parts of the design, such as the thicker blocks, and with modifications as you may see fit.)
That's all I have for the moment, but I'll definitely post more as I think of them.

Here are my questions about Snap:
  • How would you optimize Snap to solve mathematical problems/applications/computer science problems where large data sets are involved?
  • Do demonstrations in Snap help Students understand structures in other programming languages?
    Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 22:25, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
I will ask your questions and protocol the answers. Regarding Twitter, the Scratch Club is very open to new people, but they should have some connection to our Wiki, so it depends who is addressed. Makethebrainhappy, are you going to join?

Split the Paint Article

No Not done

I was browsing the wiki and noticed that the Paint editor article (here) is really long and could possibly be split up into three different articles: History of the paint editor, 2.0 Bitmap Paint editor, and 2.0 Vector Paint Editor.
Jakel181 (talk | contribs) 20:55, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

It is kinda long, but so is the CP, and do we split this? I realize it's not exactly the same thing, but it's not long enough to truly need splitting.
Kenny2scratch logo.jpg kenny2scratch  Talk  Contribs  Directory
07:03, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
in Japanese wiki, we did split it. At that time, "Types of Graphics", "Bitmap Editor", "Vector Editor", "Bitmap and Vector Comparison", "Paint Editor Conversion", "Interaction With Other Programs", "Example Uses", and "Alternatives" section is kept. Others are moved to version subpages, such as Paint Editor (2.0). Guess what will happen next January here, without the change.
By the way, block workaround page is enough big to split, too, I think. It will be good for performance issues.
Logo of Apple502j.jpg Apple502j Talk/Activities 1,964edit 08:24, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
Currently, Bitmap Editor redirects to Paint Editor#Bitmap Editor. The bitmap editor is a large part of Scratch, so I think it needs its own article.

I merged the previous 'The "Bitmap Editor" Page' topic with this one that I pulled from the archives, as I realize that the original one shouldn't have been archived. If the replies by CrazyBoy826 onwards seem out of context, that's why.
Next question: "Paint Editor" will have to redirect to either Bitmap or Vector Editor (not a disambig page, because there's only two). Which one?

There are some sections that cannot be on the two: Types of Graphics, Bitmap and Vector Comparison, Costume Pane, Basic Options, Interaction With Other Programs, Example Uses, History, and Alternatives. Keep them on Paint Editor.

Planned downtime at 07:00 UTC

All wikis will be put into read-only mode at 7:00 AM (UTC) to move the files between machines. This means that you will not be able to edit pages, upload files, or make any kind of database-modifying actions. This is so that you do not lose your work after the transfer. This transfer will have the advantage of giving us more control over our own systems.

We have seen issues caused by read-only mode before, including but not limited to broken file thumbnails. If you see any issues, feel free to take note of them and report them after the transfer is done, but most likely the issues will disappear once the wikis are no longer read-only.

Letting you know,

Note Note: a lot of β€œResource Limit Is Reached” errors, but we'll get that fixed soon.

On the front page of the Wiki, if you click "Read more..." or the title, it brings you to a page about SDS curators, but the image showing belongs to a page about getting started with Scratch. Please add all approved Extensions to all Scratch Wikis

@kenny2Scratch: Could you please fulfill me a great wish an add all extensions (+ other version related stuff) that have been approved in the english Scratch Wiki to all other Scratch Wikis. This is a generalisation of my specific wish, please add mediawikiwiki:Extension:SyntaxHighlight to de:Special:Version#Installed extensions. I think it's best for all international Scratch Wikis to profit from Extensions that have been approved in other Wikis, mostly the en: Scratch WIki. In the (IMHO rarely) situation, that a Scratch Wiki community of a certain language doesn't want a certain Extension, it's easier to disable that Extension later, than to create a discussion process before (when nobody has seen the advantages of that new Extension). Thank you very much in advance!

I have already been working towards something like this... The CommonSettings.php plan is already implemented for English and Test wikis, and I'm trying to combine the other wikis' LocalSettings files as well. Part of that will include symlinking all the wikis' extensions directories to one wiki's. Once I figure out how it's going to work, this will be done.

I've now symlinked all the wikis' extensions folders to the English one, which now contains every extension any wiki has ever used. Any wiki can load any extension used by any other wiki now. (This means that the original point of this topic is Yes Done - all wikis can add all extensions if necessary.)

Articles to update for 3.0

No Won't be done for a long time

Hello everyone, it's already January 2nd for me, so I figure I might as well get the preparations started.

Observations/Edit Guidance

Pages outdated upon 3.0 release are incredibly numerous. In most cases, one or more of the following edits can or should happen:

  • Parts that talk about 3.0 features in future tense (e.g. "there will be a new paint editor") should be changed to use present tense (e.g. "there is a new paint editor") or past tense (e.g. "a new paint editor was introduced")
  • Parts that talk about 3.0 changes in future tense (e.g. "the editor will be moved to the right side") should be changed to use past tense (e.g. "the editor was moved to the right side")
  • Parts that mention dates in any tense should have their tense updated (e.g. "the official release will be January 2019" -> "the official release was January 2019")
  • Parts that talk about 2.0 features in any tense (e.g. "the paint editor has these features") should be changed to use past tense (e.g. "the paint editor had these features")
  • Parts that talk about 2.0 changes in any tense (e.g. "the editor was moved to the left") should all be changed to past tense if they haven't already.
  • Take this opportunity to update things that weren't changed from 1.4 days as well.

Progress

Here is a list of articles that need to be updated (on their real versions in mainspace) upon the release of 3.0. You can probably already start updating them now. Articles marked with an asterisk (*) have updates available at Scratch Wiki:3.0 Articles/the article title, but:

Note Warning: do not copy articles directly from their 3.0 versions!

Though in most cases the information will be correctly updated, make sure to use your own judgement as to its accuracy.

Note Note: Some of the articles listed below need to be created.

Feel free to update this list yourself. Add any articles that you discover that need updates; remove articles that have been updated.

  • How to Embed a Project
  • Blocks
  • Change () Effect by () (sound block)
  • Development of Scratch 3.0
  • Project
  • File:Flag as Inappropriate.png
  • File:Name bar.png
  • File:Offline Editor Share Icon.png

Remember to take this opportunity to clean up articles as well as update them!

Fix typography or other writing issues as you come across them

We don't want to have to make a second sweep to clean up all the weird grammar from tense changes. Remember to fix the grammar and spelling of the articles as a whole while you update them.

Ask for help when you need it

If a page or redirect needs to be deleted or you need some other admin action, leave a message at Scratch Wiki talk:Community Portal/Admin Requests. If you don't specifically need admin actions, you can ask anyone you think would know the answer to your question.

Here's to a good 3.0 release!

Nothing has changed between 2.0 to 3.0 in Front Page, Messages, Discuss, Profiles. (Maybe more but these are all I've been to). The Project page and project editor are the only ones that have.

The front page has changed, they've just been using the 3.0 skin for a while. Notice how the top bar is bright blue there and on project pages but a darker blue in discuss and the profiles as well as studios. Messages have also been at the 3.0 skin for a while. My stuff (and everything in it, like trash) has not been updated either.

Errors whilst accessing the Scratch Wiki

On the Scratch Wiki, after the Scratch Website was put into Maintainance Mode, I frequently saw some 508 "Resource Limit Reached" errors. Does anyone know the cause for this?
Jammum (talk | contribs) 13:18, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

No concrete cause, only speculation. My suspicion is that now that the website is down, people are turning to the Wiki... but we're not equipped to handle that kind of traffic, so we're borking as well. Martin's emailed me, and I've emailed him... but any solution would involve contacting the server provider and that takes time. Nothing to be done at present.

it looks like the navbar is missing something
DeleteThisAcount (talk | contribs) 14:57, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
Some parts of the navbar (like the Scratch Logo) are missing because those parts are hosted on the Scratch Website. The Scratch Website is currently down to switch from Scratch 2.0 to 3.0, which also means that images stored on it cannot be accessed by anyone or anything. The CDN containing user profile images are still available, as only the main Scratch Website (not any subdomains) is down for maintainance.

If you click on a double redirect, the first redirect works properly, but it just pauses at the second one and you have to manually click it. This prevents infinite redirects.

Gifs are known to be troublesome. Likely the server ran out of memory when trying to shrink it to size. But using gifs in your signature is against custom signature guidelines anyway (they get too flashy if we allow gifs) - just use a static armamemedillo.

If you want to use a comment for a citation, you could take a picture of it, upload it to CubeUpload and then use the direct link or something like that I guess. I don't have any ideas for the current comments that don't load, though...
-ShadowOfTheFuture- (talk | contribs) 18:17, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
The Problem with that is then someone could edit it then take a screen shot.
Jakel181 (talk | contribs) 21:51, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
No, no pictures! We have a reference format for comments:
Username. (D/M/YYYY). "Relevant quote from comment." https://scratch.mit.edu/users/link_to_comment#comments-12345678
If you can't fetch the quote because the comment is so old, then unfortunately there's nothing to be done. Whatever material that references the comment will have to be assumed to be verifiable by the comment, unless proven otherwise.
Kenny2scratch logo.jpg kenny2scratch  Talk  Contribs  Directory
10:30, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
Scratch 3.0 should be faster at loading comments though...? A new thing it does is instead of loading all of the comments leading down to it, it only shows the comment you clicked the link to and has a "see all comments" button.

Blocks in articles should display smaller

The current blocks plugin has resulted in significantly larger blocks than we had in the previous version. In fact, they are even larger than the blocks in the Scratch editor. Measuring on my screen, the Glide () Secs to () block is 40px tall in the editor (measured from the highest to lowest pixel), while in the blocks plugin, it is 58px tall. This is almost 50% larger. You can see the difference below:

Block height difference.png

In that image, the block on the left is from the editor, while the block on the right is from the blocks plugin. This is resulting in the blocks not only being larger than in the editor, but so large that they are becoming distracting from the actual text. Therefore, I propose requesting to the current creator of the blocks plugin that the blocks be made smaller. This will result both in the blocks more accurately resembling what you see in the editor and having them be less distracting from the text in articles. They would look something like this:

I implemented a fix for this on the Wiki extension when it was added, so I'm confused - are you talking about the forums plugin or the blocks as displayed on the Wiki? Because on the Wiki it looks like this:

glide () secs to ( v)Block height difference.png

Three blocks - left is actual rendered inline scratchblocks; middle is the "small" block in the image in the OP; right is the "big" block in the OP image.

I'm talking about blocks as displayed on the Wiki. The big block in the image is how the blocks display for me on the Wiki (latest version of Firefox on Windows 10). They should display in a size more like what they appear like in the program (small block in the image) or possibly slightly smaller.

Scratch Block Images

So, I thought we were basically done with converting things to 3.0. The thing is, most block pages show 2.0 style blocks. For example, look here. Before I updated the picture, it was a 2.0 file. Are these supposed to be like this or should we update them all?
EIephant_Lover (talk | contribs) 00:10, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

We should update the images. However, the current image filenames include "2.0", so we should upload them under new files (like "3.0 () - ().png" or whatever) and keep the older ones for historical purposes.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:57, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
Okay. I've updated a few of them already, can you undo image updates?
EIephant_Lover (talk | contribs) 18:52, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
I already restored the old versions. The versions you uploaded are still there under the file history, so you can re-upload those under new filenames.

3.0 updating question

Should we rename the page Getting Started with Scratch to Getting Started with Scratch 2.0 and create a new page called Getting Started with Scratch 3.0? Because some people (Mainly teachers who's curriculum is based around S2) will still use the offline 2.0 editor.

Every time, I notice that there are both HTTP and HTTPS versions of the Scratch Wiki website, with logging in/out independent of each other (if I am logged in on one, the other may be different). This recently started, with the first incident on January 6. What's happening to the site?

This is due to an htaccess issue, I think - we just don't redirect requests from http to https, and most browsers don't send https cookies to the http version of the same site. I'll fix the htaccess files at some point.

Experimental caching

I have enabled file caching in MediaWiki in order to improve performance. The basic idea is that once a page is converted from Wiki markup to HTML code once, it just saves the result and uses that all future times the page is requested rather than parsing it again.

This shouldn't affect most of you too much, but you will probably notice this:

  • When you load a page for the first time after editing it or if it hasn't been opened by anyone in a while, it will take slightly longer to load
  • Every time you or someone else loads a page after that, it will load slightly faster

Please let me know if any issues come up from this.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 17:08, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

I noticed that when I load talk pages such as the Community Portal, it takes 5-7 seconds even when no comments have been added. After reloading again, it loads with the same speed.
Jedibrine (talk | contribs) 05:24, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

Yes, when I saved my page it didn't save, and it didn't load any pages after that for around 4 hours (this happened in the morning). It just showed a dead loading thingy on the tab of the page.
Jedibrine (talk | contribs) 01:30, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
Let me clarify multiple things here:
Operating system and browser are irrelevant to loading issues.
Delays and slowdowns are being caused by the database, not caching.
I think I've narrowed down the cause for the syntax highlighting for the editor not working all the time: it only activates when the URL parameters are exactly "?title=...&action=edit", no more, no less. (Hypothesis, as yet untested.) Again, not caused by caching.
Let me explain what caching is so that you don't treat it as a black box that causes all problems. Here's the process for our current system of caching. When a page loads:
  1. First, the kind of user is determined. If the user is not an anonymous user, no caching is done. No logged-in user is shown a cached page, i.e. none of your troubles could be caused by caching because you are logged in and are therefore ignored by caches! (Additionally, anonymous users who have unchecked talk page messages are also not shown cached pages, but anonymous users cannot possibly have talk page messages on this wiki so that is irrelevant.)
  2. Second, the kind of page is determined. Caching is only done for pages that:
    • are not special pages (i.e. pages that start with "Special:")
    • are not redirects
    • are being viewed in the current version (latest revision), normal wiki view, no URL parameters, nothing but the page itself.
  3. Third, MW checks whether there is a cached version of the page. (These are stored as HTML files in a directory.)
    • If there is, that gets directly served and the request ends there.
    • If there is not:
    1. The page's content is retrieved from the database.
    2. The retrieved content is saved in the cache directory.
    3. The cached content is served the same way it would if it was already cached.
There is no way that caching could be causing any of your problems because, once more, it is not done for logged-in users. Try to investigate further as to the cause of problems instead of just assuming "oh, it's just that 'caching' thing again".

We have a {{dead link}} template you can add just after the reference if you even can't find any Internet Archive pages as well - this signifies that the reference was once there, but no more.

Actually, linking to ST profiles is a new feature, not an old bug - it was added in this pull, because of (or maybe unrelated to, I don't actually know) this topic of mine. The point is, it links now, so I was able to use that. In fact, quick JS snippet for future updating:
var res = ''
for (var child of $('#view > div > div.content > div.people > ul').children) {
    res += '* ' + child.children[1].innerText + ' ([' + child.children[0].children[0].href + ' ' + child.children[0].children[0].href.slice(30, -1) + '])\n';
}
console.log(res)
Just copy and paste into the console.

If you see someone asking around on the forums about the GPIO extension, then it may be time to consider it, but before that it's not worth it. Suggestions for AbuseFilter

I would like AbuseFilter to prevent:

  • Signatures being in mainspace articles
  • Userspace being in categories

Jammum (talk | contribs) 17:47, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

I believe that Abuse Filter is a mw extension. You would have to consult mw if you want it changed.
12944qwerty Logo.png 12944qwerty  Talk  Contribs  Scratch  18:32, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
You don't have to consult media wiki to have it changed! You (Bureaucrats)(as far as I know only they can change it on the sw) can add filters to it to make it custom to your need.
This seem like they could be helpful, though as for the second one there may be a few categories that set it off mainly a few of the Category:Hidden categories and Category:Open User Pages. Though, it might not be necessary to add these because I have never seen those things happen (expect for the categories mentioned above). Have you seen it happen before?

@apple your post broke, I fixed it
Before adding either of these, are there any legitimate reasons for putting signatures in mainspace or for adding userpages to categories?
Off the top of my head I can't think why signatures would go in mainspace (they do go in subject pages, but not specifically mainspace), so I'd probably do that, but then there's also the problem of figuring out what's actually a signature. But are there any pages that need signatures (even as example sigs)?
Adding userpages to categories is harder. That filter apple posted only detects manual categories, but it doesn't work for templates that add categories. There's really no good way of knowing when a page is put into a category without using a lot of magic. Besides, the rare cases that people decide to categorize their userpages will be walked all over by anyone who pays attention to RC anyway, so I don't think it's worth adding a filter for.
Kenny2scratch logo.jpg kenny2scratch  Talk  Contribs  Directory
02:37, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
One legitimate reason I can think of to add a template with a category in userspace is administrative templates, such as {{delete}}.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 17:37, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
That's not a manual category, which is all that any abuse filter would be able to detect... is there any legitimate use for putting a [[Category:Thing]] in any page?

Scratch Wiki Server and Edit Conflict Problem

Internet on the Scratch Wiki has been extremely slow for me for a few days. I'm on Windows 10, and Chrome, Firefox, and Edge are all slow. Yes, the community portal never loaded either until now (I have been trying for 2 days)

We feel like the connectivity should definitely be improving in the next couple of days. Please let us know if there are still issues.

It has been slower than before. :(

I found that disabling my adblocker fixes the problem.

We just downgraded the PHP version to 7.1 from 7.2 since PHP 7.2 is known to cause unnecessary load on webservers. This shouldn't impact functionality since MediaWiki still supports PHP 7.1. Please let us know if any problems come up (or if this results in better performance for everyone).

@jvvg: The Extensions like BlockPlugin and also Accounting seem not to work anymore in DE and EN, but work in HU and FR...frodewin changend "localsettings.php" at the HU sysopsite by just outcomenting the Extentions and changed it back accidentaly at the same time you downgraded PHP. Ken introduced "commonsettings.php" as a shared part of "localsettings.php" at EN and DE about a wee ago, but not in FR and HU...so I suppose frodewins test with the HU-"localsettings.php" had no influence, but your downgrade in combination with Kens "commonsettings.php" was the reason that the Extension don't work properly at the moment...strange...or it's just because EN and DE use versions of the Extentions that don't work with PHP 7.1 whereas HU and FR do work with 7.1...

Ad problems: The ScratchBlocks Plugin is not working for English and German wikis.
Frodewin (talk | contribs) 21:47, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
But as a result we now know that the Extentions that don't work at the moment (because of PHP7.1 ?) have been responsible for the slowness oth the Wikis ;-)

April Fools Stuff

Yes Done

So guys, how do you find your April Fools page?
Dilek10 (talk | contribs) 09:39, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

Here's yours: Scratch Wiki:April Fools/User:Dilek10. You'll also need to add {{April Fools}} to the top of your userpage.

Scratch Blocks Bug

I don't know if it is just me but the scratch blocks doesn't render anymore. I tried refreshing cache too. Could it be because of PHP version? Here is an example: move (10) steps
12944qwerty Logo.png 12944qwerty  Talk  Contribs  Scratch  02:53, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

We're looking into it. It's possible it's related to the PHP version change, but we're not sure yet. We will keep you posted.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 03:32, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
I have fixed it. The problem actually had nothing to do with the PHP version change, it was because the Wiki plugin depends on an external script that moved to a new URL.
